For everybody else, I go the World Vision cards where I buy a goat/chicken/toilet etc for a family in a poverty stricken country in their name. I may buy some from The Smith Family this year too.
Are you the boring hippie uncle? Get the little tacka a hand gun.

My family have done a secret santa thing the last 5 years. It's great only having to get something for one person. Christmas is all about the food and company of family for me.

Apart from that, I'll probably buy myself a new kayak. And some new toys and special Christmas dinner for the cats.

I buy kids presents...or buy my 5 YO presents. My 2 oldest want cold hard cash so that is what they get.
The World Vision stuff is for my Dad and my brothers and sisters. I am 46 and the youngest of 8 so not sure that any of my older brothers and sisters want guns.

Definitely do not buy for neices and nephews anymore as we are up to over 30 of them !!!!!!

Still buy something nice for major birthdays. (Bottle of Morangie for my nephew's 21st recently.)

For the record, SA - You would love to have an uncle as cool as me :)

I usually buy my nephews and nieces a combination of coke and speed. When they don't know what to with it I offer to look after it until they do.

Christmas with my family is great, everybody is entertained by old 'crazy' Uncle Goon.

Saw a great piece on people doing this the other day. So you get to feel good, they end up with nothing and feel they should feel guilty for having 'first world problems'. If you want to donate to charity - excellent. If you don't want to give people a present - all good. Don't combine the two and expect people to think it's a good idea (except of course if all these recipients are bleeding heart types who think you are brilliant for doing this - in which case great presents!).

I've presents to buy (mostly bought already) for kids, wife, parents, grumble-in-law, nephews and nieces. Around a dozen people all up, so a few to get, but not over the top numbers that end up causing too much stress.

For the day itself with myself from SA and my wife from Victoria we alternate where Christmas is each year. Luckily here in SA this year. No family fights or clashes. Not that there are fights when we are in Vic., but there are clear 'we're better than so and so' vibes from some extended family to others that make it less than ideal.

Ps. No coal for the ex-wife JD? :p

If being caring people is your definition of bleeding hearts - that is my family :thumbsu:.

I do my very best not to think of my ex wife on christmas day and will fortunately have another year of not having to talk to her again. :)

You have just committed Anti-Cool Rule #42: Calling Oneself "Cool." You are herby sanctioned to a hundred hours confined in the uncoolest room ever, which consists of listening to the Nickelback discography, every piece of text being in fuchsia comic sans, a computer with Linus, whilst wearing a snuggie with those chinos with elastic cuffs (w/ reading lamp).

You just outed yourself as uncool by including Snuggies in that list. :)

Bit harsh. Part of the joy of Christmas is sitting in your Snuggy opening your new Crisco hamper.

I want candles and boots for Christmas.

Don't really care too much about my presents, I prefer wrapping and giving out presents

Bloody great idea. We take a step further where everyone writes a list of possible items places to get them / cut out pictures in catalogues etc. and shoves it all in an envelope. You put more down than the maximum spend, as much as you want, and they pick something. So you still get a bit of a surprise but you get something you like. Takes the stress out of deciding for each person and then hoping they actually like it.

We've done a KK between myself and four of my girlfriends - unfortunately they are absolutely useless at keeping a secret and the person I have was spoiled through process of elimination, and I know that the person who has me is one of the two sisters involved in it. I've ended up buying a gift for each of them anyway, so no money was saved, I just love buying presents for people.

I'm almost finished my family Christmas presents, I just need to buy something Wii-U related for my brother and something for my dad.

Also, people that buy me candles are put in the 'wow you really don't know me at all' category, bloody useless things except in emergency situations when torches fail you.

I find buying Christmas presents for people really hard. I always second guess getting something. So I usually go the option of asking people what they want.

Although until my brother gives me the $300 he owes me, no one gets anything :p

Are they girly or not? What are they into?
Mum loves to read so I am thinking just a gift voucher to a book store because I would have no clue what specific book to get her.
Sister is a girly girl I guess in terms of clothes and what not but she also likes to go Four wheel driving with mates in the bush so then again maybe not haha. Its my sister im more stumped with. I still remember a couple, of years ago she got me a signed buddy pic that was framed.......and i got her a calender

Good idea, I'd go with that and a personalised bookmark.

Hahah!

I'd suggest a voucher for somewhere European like Zara or Topshop or Victoria's Secret (there are only a couple in Vic of each, but they are sought after by every girly girl). Or a voucher for some nice salon/masseuse where she can just relax and get all that beauty shit done on her.

Whatever you do, NEVER buy clothes for a girl, unless she showed you a specific one.
