This is what the East coast is expecting.

The Bureau of Meteorology says that heatwave is already spreading across the country – currently it has Western Australia in its grips and today it is beginning to move east.

Its not that bad over here at the moment. In saying that us sand gropers are used to it. Anything near 30-35 and it feels like winter in Perth.

From tomorrow, temperatures are expected to top 40° in parts of South Australia and western Victoria before the warm weather moves into NSW, Queensland and the Northern Territory

I feel sorry for you over on the East. Being around family you dont like while sweating out 40+.........Good luck.

already here man, 40 in Melb. At least if it is that hot at xmas I'll have a beer in hand.....

Must say it would have been rough at the WACA in the last week stuck out in the sun. Radio commentators were saying crowds dropped off in the evening sessions simply because it was to effing hot.

Having a street party tonight... Yukka Bucket non-stop to keep cool. It's like standing in a furnace on the tarmac.

It's only going to be 26 degrees on Christmas Day in Melbourne.

There was just a 'heat warning' on News 24 for Melbourne including downtime for public transport because it's hitting 38.

metro cancelled some services yesterday in anticipation of the heat

Last night on every news outlet and today on the net they have been all saying the East is in for a hot hot curry hot christmas. It seems to have dropped 15 degrees since last night o_O

The temperature forecast last night was the same as posted. Mid - high 20s.

34 tomorrow and then it drops down to the mid 20s for the next few days after that.

I think the Metro's heat policy usually kicks in at around 36 degrees, usually adds another 10 to 15 minutes onto the train journey.

Latest forecast has it revised down to a mildish 29.

Christmas is just one of those days in Melbourne when the weather doesn't bust your balls, at least it seems that way from the few I can remember.

I remember it hailing about 5-10 years ago.

Apparently the train tracks start to soften up!

Like every rail authority around the country, and, in fact the world, Transperth reduces the speed of its trains in very hot weather in case the tracks become distorted.

When the temperature reaches 39 degrees, a speed restriction is imposed and train speed is reduced across all lines. At 41 degrees, speeds are reduced again.

Heat speed restrictions have been imposed every summer in Perth for more than 30 years. However, the impact has been greatly reduced as the Public Transport Authority has progressively replaced wooden sleepers with concrete. Track with concrete sleepers is much less affected by the heat.

This is Australia, if you don't like hot weather or tolerate it, then go live in England.
