There has been alot of talk about players being 'worth it' on the SC board with players like Ablett and Bartel leading such discussions.

However I haven't really seen many people ask if Judd is worth it, even though he is only $30k odd less than Bartel.

Yet 95.28% of teams appear to have the Juddy listed in the midfield.

I'm not sure how he went in the practice game against Freo but in his two other pre-season hit outs he's scored 77 against a weakish Hawthorn and 83 when the Blues flogged North Melbourne.

Now i know everyone is talking about Judd being completely over his injury and ready to destroy the competition like during his glory days at West Coast.. but is he?

I would hardly say that Judd has been taking the world by storm in the pre-season.

So the question i'm asking.. is Christopher Judd worth it.. and why/why not?!

First full preseason in years, the guy will dominate.

It'd be interesting to see his TOG. From what I saw in the Hawks/Blues game he didn't play much more than a half. That said I'm not picking him. Just doesn't look that dominant to me. I'm sure he'll end up averaging close to 110 but I think he'll start slowish, by his standards anyway.

yes he is, i would still rather him over Bartel if they were at the same price. I wouldn't look too much into the NAB cup especially with a player like Judd, i expect him to show what he is worth rnd 1.

Players 'like' Ablett, Bartel, Delidio, etc all seem to be showing what they are worth in the pre-season.

You would think when players will on a jumper they play hard, regardless of it being pre-season or regular season.

Example A. Yes he's had a full pre-season. However has he shown anything to suggest he will 'dominate'?

TOG is a factor.. i think he sat out the last quarter in the Hawks game.. but still.. at almost $600k..

From second hand reports he's having a quiet one against Freo as we speak.

There is an obvious reason why he isnt talked about here and if you dont know what that is then im not going to bother telling you :P

Why try and show all your cards in meaningless practice matches for?

Juddy isn't even out of first gear yet and no need to until round one starts.

Once the real stuff starts he will be in 4th gear and tearing it up! :thumbsu:

Just out of curiosity Spartan have you heard how Pavlich is going? Just interested as I have him in my team that's all. I expect Pavlich to be his old self by round 1 too. Once champions always champions IMO. ;)

His a champion, never ride a champion off.

You'll get what you paid for. He'll score big but not West Coast big. The side he plays in now won't win enough games and his teammates arent good enough to block for him or win him the hard footy as they did at West Coast. He has to do too much by himself. Will average 110 though so one of the mids you would happily pick. A champion.

I never said i was passing him up.

I asked the question is he worth almost $600k to start the season given his somewhat 'slow' pre-season form.

I don't buy into the 'players are in first gear' for pre-season games, especially the NAB Cup games.

Not singling you out spartan, just a friendly warning to anyone who's doubting the man in 2009 ;)

Yes he is worth the money, cliche but it's pre-season after all. He might not be in first gear but when you combine different rules, limited time on ground and shortened games, scores don't mean a whole lot for proven players. I would say Judd would have played 70% TOG max so far. Pre-season for guns is more about the roles they play and how their fitness levels are. A stack of other proven players have shown a whole lot less that Judd so far.

Truth be told Juddy currently has a place in my side..

I'm just toying with the idea of spending the hard earned elsewhere..

Hrmz..
Earned? Didn't you stick an email into a site and they gave you $10 mil? :p

I have gone off him. I've seen most of the Carlton games this year and I am not sold. Carlton has brought together an amasing midfield and to me it seems Ratten is happy to sacrifice Judd knowing that the other midfielders can stand up and be relied upon. From the pre-season games Judd has been incredibly heavily tagged (nothing new there), but at times he seemed to remove himself from play knowing that the likes of Murphy can stand up. He is an incredibly unselfish person and does what is right for the team. Unfortunately for him the Carlton midfield is not yet mature or strong enough to block for him like in the days of his WC days, or like Geelong midfield is able to do for Ablett.

He will still average over 100 'cos he is a champion. But people thinking that he will average 130 like in his WC days are going to be in for some dissapointment.

I see much better value in players like Selwood, Goodes, Cassisi etc.

He had something like 9 touches in 10 minutes against the Roos with Brady Rawlings arguably the best tagger in the game on him. He then went off and only played in dribbles for the rest of the game as it was won early and there's no point in risking your captain and best player for a joke. Has done nothing to dissapoint me and i expect him to post similar numbers to Bartel maybe even more but not as much as Jesus.
