i was complaining about marlon samuels in the wi vs ind thread, but he is just part of a much bigger problem in cricket: rampant, unchecked chucking. this was always going to happen after letting murali throw darts at batsmen for the better part of 20 years, but now that he's gone and we don't have to worry about the entire subcontinent throwing a tantrum over it, can we please please please make a stand against this straight up act of cheating. seeing guys like ajmal, harbhajan etc tearing through batting orders just makes me sick.

Is Gannon from Queensland just awkward or does his action look a bit suss? It's hard to tell and there is probably no definitive answer.

Funny how you have never seen Murali, Harbahjan, Ajmal bowl in short sleeves...

Samuels shouldn't even be playing for WI anyway, what's the point, they have a fair bit of young talent why not play them instead of recalling a guy who spent a couple of years banned for being involved in something to do with matchfixing?

Malinga is a massive chucker.

At the crease he looks more like a baseball pitcher.

The "sling" action masks it though, but clearly can see the arm bend and then extend past the highest point (where the arm should be straight)

On another note

As you can see from this image

There is no way that is smaller than 15 degrees. Johan Botha! :thumbsu:

go down to any local nets and you'll see every off spinner with a dubious action.

Simple really. You cannot spin the ball a long way without bending your arm.

Even more relevant is that it is impossible to bowl a doosra without bending the elbow. It should be renamed the "Chuck".

Our offspinners do not spin it far as a rule because they have been brought up to bowl with a straight arm.

One chuck per over. Batsman can call for a review if a second chuck gets them out. Third umpire is manned by clones of Ross Emerson. I'm thinking the future of the game here.

Sure Murali is gone, but an entire generation of sub-continent spinners are growing up chucking (including India).

Any decent Indian spinner for the next 20 years will be a massive chucker so the world controlling body for cricket (the BCCI) not only wont fix the problem, any umpire that calls them on it will be gone.

skip past the blabla to 5:00.

we've all seen that. all it proves is that he COULD bowl without chucking. you think botha or ajmal couldn't bowl legit if they wanted? he definately chucked in a match situation

no what it proves is that his action does not give him some kind of unfair advantage, because even when you do about the worst thing you could to restrict a bowler without just hurting him (ie heavily restrict their arm movement and ruin their runup), he is still able to generate the spin that he can apparently only get because he 'chucks'.

much smarter and more experienced people than you or i have been used to analyse and govern the laws of bowling.

An ICC sanctioned study conducted by Australian bio-mechanist revealed that it was humanly impossible to bowl with a straight arm and that all bowlers breached the laws. The study uncovered that a bowler's arm flexes laterally by nature.

Before the above mentioned study was conducted, the ICC had allocated 10 degrees for fast bowlers, 7.5 degrees for medium pacers, and 5 degrees for spin bowlers which meant that all bowlers were exceeding the stipulated limits.

“Extensive research conducted by the International Cricket Council has revealed that 99% of bowlers in the history of cricket have been chuckers,” the website cricinfo.com reported when the results of the study were first revealed.

I dont get the whole chucking thing.

The rule is there so you dont baseball pitch the thing. No one does that so whats the issue?

Batsman have it easy enough these days. Do we want to ban the doosra or see not turn from offies ?

Mitchell Johnson and Brett Lee both straighten thier arms when they bowl. They still bowl the ball its not a throw.

The rules are fine how they are.

Yes, he can tell how much is 15 degrees and manages to keep his arm below that for the tests, then magically go over it during matches.

FFS...

I've read this about 10 times now - can someone please point out where I can see the videos that prove 99% of all bowlers chuck? Look, I know there were some interesting actions from the past - whatever you do don't watch Ray Lindwall in super slo-mo - it looks terrible. And there was never the slightest suggestion about his action.

I accept that the really fast bowlers arms have some 'flexion' in the action - the difference is that it is involuntary and they are not gaining any advantage out of it. With the spinners, it is different - even if not deliberate, they are gaining an advantage.

Where are these films?

The post obviously refers, to being able to slip back into your old routine ( if it was deemed illegal) during a match. But when tested you can force yourself to change for the instance.

But keep it up, your sarcasm, and making people seem like idiots posting skills are working well lately :thumbsu:

mohammad hafeez, saeed ajmal, shoaib malik all chuck it. Even there new young left arm quick looks like he chucks it.

Meh too many rules favour batsmen. The relaxed chucking laws have favoured bowlers and it has brought us the new delivery "the doosra", which has only been good for cricket.

As long as they aren't pitching it I don't have a problem. Botha is a far worse chucker than Murali and I can't believe the Australian crowds never "no balled" him. He deserved it far more.
