Was over at a mates house tonight, home poker night and everyone had sunk a few beers each. Out come the cigars when the first bloke got knocked out, as is the norm at most home poker/casino nights I've been to. It got me thinking do I actually like cigars or not. At the time the taste and smell is alright, but later on I usually feel a bit hazy and end up with a minor headache, not to mention you will smell like a cigar smoke until your next shower.

What's the GD's perspective on cigar's and cigar smoking? Personally I enjoy one every now and then but to be honest I'm still undecided. (non cigarette smoker*)

I don't smoke, but I think having a cigar now and then wouldn't be too bad, plus it makes you look 100 times cooler

I absolutely detest cigarettes and cigarette smokers.

I feel very different about cigars however, never had one though.

And it's really s**t that smoking laws meant the end of cigar bars, how ridiculous.

The bunk don't like this.

Seriously though, I do it when poker nights come but they do nothing for me at all. I nothing them so in other words I prefer not to have them. It's funny/kinda cool at poker nights but next poker night I wouldn't have one.

Another option is to...

Like em. But they have their time and place. They're best for sitting around chilling out, with a few scotches or whatever your poison is.

Personally don't think like them combined with extremely heavy drinking - just accelerate the journey to vomit IMO. Best with relaxed drinking. I've had a few late on very big nights, made me feel like arse.

I have a cigar every few weeks. Wish cigar saloons and bars were still around. It is great trying all the different types from different areas. Each cigar is unique with its own blend and wrapper and size does matter...in terms of flavour. Cuban and Dominican cigars are superior imho. I order my cigars from the US for a third of the price. Here is a post game stogie I had not too long ago

Cigar smoke is a bit of a nostalgia thing for me. Reminds me of my grandfather who died when I was very young. He was partial to Montecristos.

I am not a huge fan of cigars personally but I agree with the guy who said to try a good one before you decide you don't like them. There's a big difference.

cigars are one of those thngs that seem like a good idea at the time but never are

you cant go to bed without showering cause of the terrible smell and they can really * your mouth/throat despite not inhaling (well i dont inhale I was told youre not supposed to but I always run into someone who insists you inhale into your lungs)

Holding it's ash nicely that one.

What's with the ash

Is it a goal to get the whole thing down without breaking the ash or is there a general rule like every 5th section of the cigar you knock it off?

If two blokes are sitting there with two different cigars having a pissing contest, does it become a contest of who gets the biggest ash?

It tends to indicate a well constructed cigar.

not a fan personally, although that doesn't stop me from having one everytime i end up at siglo. something about an outdoor terrace is conducive to smoking cigars, reminds me of boston legal.

It indicates a well constructed cigar that has been smoked cool. The cooler you smoke it the better the flavours on your palate. Flavours are usually described in thirds, the first third including pre light draw. The second third which is usually where more complex flavours develop and the final third which is where the cigar is supposed to be at its richest. Some cigars can be smoked right down to the nub, however some become harsh and hot at the brand label line. A good clean cut and a good toasting prior to lighting makes all the difference to your cigar experience.

My favourite cigars so far are the partagas series D no.4. Romeo y Julieta Reserva Real and a Man o War Virtue. Not lucky enough or rich enough to try a cohiba yet. Maybe next year when I get into my career. I have a humidor made out of tupperware so hopefully I can upgrade that to a spanish cedar humidor.
