Clancee 'Clanger' Pearce, 1:N clanger to disposal ratio.

That's our Zac. Actually find it surprising, I thought most of his kicks are just bombs to contests, he's smart enough not to try pin point any inside defence at least.

Not Zac's fault. I stuffed up the analysis. Have fixed the stuff up, so the numbers and definitions should be correct now... and the stat should be less misleading. No guarantees that it'll be useful though. ;)

He's still Clanger though, therefore technically he will always have that ratio.

Butchers it like ASADA will butcher your club.
and so they should, doesn't change the fact that Fyfe's disposal/decision making lets him down.

Fyfe ranks #2 in the comp per game for contested possessions, that is great, but if use total contested possessions like you want to do then he doesn't make the top 10...

he ranks 6th for clangers per game, goes at 64% efficiency, he butchers it and you know it.

64% isn't all that bad for an inside mid. There are also some pretty handy players that have a similar clangers-per-game stats.

his kick % from a mark is extremely low, he is improving though, I am a Fyfe fan btw but he does get overrated.

considering Fyfes frees against is relatively low compared to others, almost all his clangers are disposal related, hes led the comp in clangers per game the last two seasons, I'd say he is right up there in kick clangers too.
Champ data guy might be able to confirm that

Currently has the same clangers per game as Ablett who has a DE of 66.5%

I'll forgive the 2.5% difference considering he has a higher kick to handball ratio and a higher contested to uncontested ratio, which both increase risk.

4 game sample, what about the previous two seasons?

I am done with this topic though, we won't get anywhere.

It's amazing you even bothered in the first place.

If this is the quality of your analysis please don't bother here in the future, we have enough nothing posters like you here as is. You get marks for having a such a significant chip on your shoulder but nothing else.

Clancee 'Clanger' Pearce, 1:N clanger to disposal ratio.

theres a reason he was no.1 in the comp for kicking in 2013 according to champion data. The guy just doesn't miss targets.

I don't get how a kick can be a clanger if its a one step kick in a pack out of congestion. ATM thats why Fyfe gets alot of clangers. He doesn't miss targets, but he does throw it on the boot quite a bit - but i'm sure that is a coaching instruction.

Last year Ablett went at 67% with 3.5 clangers and 1.2 frees against.
Fyfe went at 63.6% with 4.2 clangers and 1.5 frees against, again Fyfe had higher kick and contested ratios.

You can have your opinion, I'm just saying your stats don't back you up except if you don't rate Ablett.

Clangers aren't always strictly detrimental anyway, a 55 metre bomb up the ground from a stoppage situation may get marked by an opposition player but if our players reset their structures in that time and get more numbers behind the ball it's effectively neutral, Hawthorn are the only team who will make you pay for those types of turnovers because they keep possession so well but more often than not we'll force a turnover ourselves within 2-3 plays of the "clanger". It's why I can't stand people who make judgements on player stats, stats alone never tell the full story.

People make it sound like Fyfe can't hit targets 15 metres away but the low DE% almost solely down to the fact the vast amount of his touches are earned in the clinches. He's winning something like 18 contested possessions a game so far which is almost unheard of.

haha
all this started when one of your posters brought up Fyfe's absense from a most clangers list where everyone had played two extra games and I am the one who caused the tears for simply stating he was 6th per game.

you poor campaigners could have used someone who could kick straight in the GF

You poor ****s could have used someone with some integrity at your club and then maybe you wouldn't be losing players later this month.

Don't let the door hit you in the arse on the way out.

I think you have misunderstood clogged post when he was quoting Champion data. He wasn't highlighting Fyfe's absence from the top clangers list, I think he was (as was Champion data) highlighting the irrelevance of the list because of the quality of names on the list.

The last table from strobe00 confirms Spurr needs to tidy up his act, despite what Ross says

To be fair, Sutty could do with some tidying up as well by the looks.

Hadn't realised how well Clancee used the ball. I knew he was a good kick and didn't make too many obvious mistakes... but his contribution is pretty damn impressive if you look at the data that way. Unlikely to stay that high, but still very impressive. Would like him to find more of the ball really.

My suggestion earlier in the thread of favouring the idea of Clancee being punted before Sutty doesn't seem quite so clever any more. Will dredge up the stats for last year to see if they say anything interesting.

Following the feedback above (and thanks for that)... having butchered my earlier attempt at providing something statistical to discuss, here is the rejigged attempt.

Considering that the following items count as Clangers (cheers Seppo and Champion_Data ), providing them as a percentage of disposals doesn't make a heap of sense (as you don't get them all via disposals). So I converted the stat to a ratio of disposals to clangers. Even if the stat doesn't turn out to be particularly useful, at least it's less misleading than using a percentage.
- 50m Penalties
- Frees Against
- Disposal and Kick-in Clangers (Direct Turnovers)
- Kick-in Error (Step over line)
- Dropped Mark (Uncontested only)
- No Pressure Error (eg. Fumbling a ball when in the open, losing possession after trying to have a bounce, ...)

OK, so Clancee of the Overflow is way better than Barlow, Pav and Fyfe. ????

Proves what they say about stats, beer, dogs, Englishmen and the mid day sun...

Perhaps Seppo can convert it all into a pie chart for the next Victorian game banner...
