SUPPRESSION ORDERS IN PLACE

Read carefully to avoid legal issues. We have put variations of the names of the people into our censor list and will be removing identifying information.

The ODPP formally notifies you that any user of the Big Footy website that purports to discuss any matter relevant to this prosecution, such as the upcoming trial, the “Claremont Serial Killer” generally or Bradley Robert Edwards the person, is prohibited under all circumstances from mentioning the name (including just the Christian name) of either protected person, or contain any information which might identify either protected person (e.g. publishing just the initials of the protected person is prohibited).

If any of these things occur then the user and the website will be in breach of the suppression order and contempt of court proceedings is likely to follow. It matters not that previous threads may have contained the names of the protected persons and that their identity is already known to some within the community, including the online community. Now that the orders are in effect, the continued publication of this protected information in any of the earlier threads which continue to be visible on the Big Footy website will also be in breach of the suppression orders.

Given that this matter has now been clearly and unequivocally brought to your attention, I would ask that any further publication of the names of the protected persons, or any other information which might identify either of them, be prevented or banned, and that such information is otherwise immediately removed from the website if a user violates this prohibition. I also ask that any and all references to protected information in any of the earlier threads discussing this matter and which remain visible on the Big Footy website, be removed forthwith.

==========================

Police investigating the 1996 disappearance of teenager Sarah Spiers, the first suspected victim in Perth’s so-called Claremont serial killings, have charged Bradley Robert Edwards with her murder.

Edwards, 49, of Kewdale, was charged in late 2016 with the murders of the other known Claremont victims, Jane Rimmer and Ciara Glennon. Western Australian police commissioner Chris Dawson said on Thursday that Edwards had been charged with wilful murder over Spiers’ disappearance.

The 18-year-old went missing after a night out with friends in Claremont in January 1996 and her body was never found. She had rung for a taxi from a phone box near the corner of Stirling Road and Stirling Highway in Claremont just after 2am on a Saturday morning - but when the taxi arrived several minutes later, she was nowhere to be seen.

“This is a significant development in a long-running and high-profile investigation,” Dawson told reporters. He also said the Spiers family did not want to comment during what was a “very traumatic time” for them. Detectives were looking for a 1992 white Toyota Camry station wagon with the vehicle identification number (VIN) of 6T172SV2109318479, which they believe could help with the investigation, he said.

Edwards will appear in court on charges involving five women on 28 February. The fear that a serial killer was stalking Claremont streets in the 1990s terrified Perth residents at the time and is believed to be Australia’s longest-running and most expensive police investigation. The two other murder victims - 23-year-old child care worker Jane Rimmer in June 1996 and 27-year-old lawyer Ciara Glennon in March 1997 - also disappeared after nights out at the same Claremont hotel as Sarah Spiers.

Rimmer’s body was discovered in Wellard in August 1996, while Glennon’s body was found in bushland in Eglington in April 1997. Edwards is also charged with abducting and raping a 17-year-old girl in February 1995 in Claremont and indecently assaulting an 18-year-old woman during a break-in at a Huntingdale home in February 1988.

THREAD RULES

Previous CSK threads have been closed due to constant derailing, abuse, off on tangents of wild conspiracies etc.

Aim of discussion

The purpose of this thread is for the primary discussion of the CSK case, information which is public knowledge as well as articles related to the ongoing investigation/trial process. Remember that if there are any items of sub justice - they are not to be discussed here

Conspiracy Theories

Please refrain from posting anything related to this. Whilst discussion of evidence and conjecture about the solutions to crimes is encouraged, conspiracy theories generally belong in conspiracies-mysteries-and-the-paranormal

Play the ball, not the man.

No name-calling or abuse of posters is tolerated & don't attack the poster that posts something you don't like or agree with.

This is one of the biggest reasons why topics are derailed and closed. If a thread has started to go off-topic, don't add to the problem. Using the excuse 'It was already off-topic' when you receive an infraction won't work.

No dribbling

Posts that add nothing like: ‘hahha’,’lol’, 'Culture', 'I agree', 'Gold' etc are not wanted. Talk about Crime, and use the "Like" button if you agree with a post but don't have anything to add.

This includes the spam posting of the same material over and over again. This is not the way to get a point or opinion across.

Trolling

Quite simply: don’t do it. Trolling other posters is not sensible discussion and having the sentence "This is not a troll but..." doesn't exempt it from being a troll.

Publishing posters identities, locations, IP addresses

Discussions on user identities or assertion of user identities with suspects or persons of interest is not welcomed - posters ignoring this rule will be issued with a Serious Infraction

Penalties for breach of rules.
First warning will have you sanctioned with either a red card or regular infraction.
Second warning will have you permanently banned from the thread.
Third warning will see your access to the crime board permanently removed.

Don’t think it’s linked... to Sara and Jane... why? Tsk tsk so many missed opportunities. Did this one come up for abduction attempts in BRE court case? Certainly sounds like could be BRE.

imo it sounds like BRE also.

description could be him, white car. location is in northbridge instead of claremont though. time frame fits, was just after jane rimmer when police action started heating up in claremont.

any thoughts on the appearance of the victim in the article photo vs the claremont victims?

would be interesting to see if there was other failed abductions around northbridge around this time too.

It's not the victim in the image but it sure sounded like it could have been BRE to me while reading it, (Church Lane came to mind) until I got to "dark skinned" & wondered if they'd have referred to anyone as such unless they were distinctively dark skinned? As opposed to having said olive skin or deeply tanned skin etc...dark skinned is quite a specific description to me & particularly if considering the likelihood of it being used to describe a caucasian man in the middle of winter. Pissed or not, if she fought him off, she'd have had a decent enough look at him regardless so I'll say probably not him, for that reason alone.

Backpacker, 22, flees from abduction ordeal.

on the corner of Roe and Fitzgerald streets, Northbridge, police said.

Before the woman was abducted, she had visited friends at Paul and Scotty's Ozi Inn in Newcastle Street, and then tried to walk back to the Globe Hotel in Wellington Street, Perth.
Tried to look at google maps placing her in the locations - if I have this correct I think she got mixed up - which is reasonable for a visitor.

I wonder if she meant to turn left? towards Beaufort St and down to Wellington St but turned right and found herself on Fitzgerald and decided it was in the same direction

Maybe she stopped a car - or the car stopped to help her (looking lost) - at Roe/Fitzgerald and that was when she was snatched

The dark skinned also stopped me - what else stopped me was the 2nd attempt outside the car - though thats debatable.

But anyway this should be in the BRE thread rather than Cutler ;) :D

The man drove her to Spinoza Street in Mt Lawley, stopped the car, punched and kicked her and tried to assault her indecently.

Noranda where BRE lived with his first wife (before they were married) in the late 80's, is about 8 minutes drive NNW Spinoza St, Mt Lawley.

I wonder if the man actually stopped his car at Spinoza Street, as opposed to a part of Ferrar or Learoyd St's that ran adjacent to the nearby Ron Stone Park.
Much more likely he would have stopped adjacent to Ron Stone Park IMO.

The victim says that she fled about 100m to the Redman's after he stopped the car, so she could have easily been guessing as to where the car was stopped, and with it being 3am and her escaping, she might have not known exactly which street he stopped the car at.

It's pretty quiet around there at night, mostly nice/large houses, with the ECU Mount Lawley + WAAPA Campus on the other side of Ron Stone Park.

'Ms Barbagallo took Edwards's ex-wife through the details of their marriage and how their relationship began in the late 1980s.
... They had shared a three-bedroom villa in suburban Noranda, but the boyfriend moved out and some months later Edwards moved in.'

Just confirming that 20/6/1996 was a Thursday.
The reported abduction/assault occurred the day before around 3am (early Wednesday morning).

Backpacker, 22, flees from abduction ordeal.

The hysterical screams of a 22-year-old woman who had just escaped from her abductor woke a Mt Lawley family about 3am yesterday.
The woman, a backpacker from British Columbia, had been forced into a white car by a man on the corner of Roe and Fitzgerald streets, Northbridge, police said.
The man drove her to Spinoza Street in Mt Lawley, stopped the car, punched and kicked her and tried to assault her indecently.
The woman escaped and ran to the Redmans' house nearby.
Helen Redman said she leapt out of bed when she heard the screams and banging on their front window.
She found the woman on her front verandah, desperate to get in.
She was dressed in a loose blouse and jeans and was soaked from the overnight downpour and bleeding.
Mrs Redman and her husband, Jon, took the woman inside, gave her a change of clothes and rang the police.
The woman told the Redmans about her ordeal and how she had fled after the man stopped the car.
"She got as far as out wall (about 100m) when he caught her, and they had a fight. He tried to rip her jeans off and hit her in the head," Mrs Redman said.
"She had three earrings in her ear. It looked like they had been ripped out and there was blood coming from there."
The woman arrived from Adelaide on Sunday, Mrs Redman said. It is believed she planned to stay in Perth about a month.
Before the woman was abducted, she had visited friends at Paul and Scotty's Ozi Inn in Newcastle Street, and then tried to walk back to the Globe Hotel in Wellington Street, Perth.
Paul Joyce, from the Newcastle Street hostel, said that staff had seen the woman come in to visit a friend about 2am and she seemed upset. She left less than an hour later.
Earlier in the night, she had been at the Hip-E Club in Leederville.
Club director John Anderson said Tuesday night was "Back Packer Night". Staff would escort women to cabs or cars if requested.
The attacker was described as a dark-skinned man, aged 23 or 24, 180cm tall, medium build, broad shoulders, short brown hair, wearing a red and white long sleeve shirt, white T-shirt, light blue jeans and dark shoes. He was unshaven.
Macro task force Det-Sen Sgt Paul Ferguson said yesterday he did not believe the abduction was linked to the disappearance of Sarah Spiers and Jane Rimmer.

Mrs K, what a brilliant discovery. From my perspective this is BRE. Reference to 'dark skinned' by the young woman attacked could be explained by her natural cultural heritage having hailed from British Columbia. I have a friend from there and they have told me they wouldn't refer to 'olive skinned' as a personal body-type description re skin colour. They would say caucasian or dark-skinned.

This attack occurred on the 9th anniversary of the disappearance and believed murder of Julie Cutler on 20/7/1988 - very interesting in the horrendously tragic timeline.

One thing I have noted is the young woman accepted a lift with the perp at corner of Roe and Fitzgerald and he headed north with slight deviation east at Spinoza. If this victim was an intended murder victim, the perp (in my mind BRE) would only have needed to get back on to Walcott, then onto Wanneroo Road then left into Pipidinny the site he had chosen for Ciara.

Very very interesting choices made regarding travel directions from his home-base at 10 Fountain vs 144 Gay on this tragic night.

I pose a question. Did history repeat itself?

I need some help understanding something and I know the great minds on here will know the answer.

In 1990 BRE received a 2-year probationary sentence after having entered a guilty plea to the assault at Hollywood Hospital.

My question is. From what date would the probationary sentence have commenced. Was it the day he attacked Wendy ie 7 May, or the day he entered his guilty plea 13 May, or some other date?

Cheers

edited to correct attack and sentencing year

The Newcastle/Roe pickup point is very close to the Palmerston St locale where Lisa Brown disappeared from in 1998 the year BRE's divorce from 1st wife became 'absolute'. There is a rumour isn't there (?) that Lisa had also attended Huntingdale Primary School which is where BRE and his siblings went to primary.

Lisa was acquainted with Darrylyn Ugle who disappeared from the same locale on 25/3/2003 and her remains were located at Farrell Grove in the Kalamunda Hills area.

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-12...er-of-perth-mother-rebecca-delalande/11756900

I don't see BRE as a suspect in these 2 murders

It is the decisions BRE made regarding his travel from his marital homebase and his parents homebase that pins him to these crimes. He let a considerable amount of information leak out of his pandora's box when he made decisions not to bury Jane and Ciara, he wanted these final sites he chose to be known.

The compass headings he chose from his parents' residence to the final sites he chose for Jane and Ciara are very interesting and he showed something with his choice re Jane's final site.

His choice of 1st wedding date and his choice of when he commenced his 1st divorce proceedings - he commenced the divorce process so that decree nisi occurred on a certain birthdate and 32 days later the annulment. Note it would have been 31 days if the 25/1/1998 did not fall on a Sunday. BTW the 1st wedding date occurred 31 days before that special birthdate he chose to have the marriage divorce decree nisi granted on in 1997.

Rebecca's abduction and murder is not BRE imo.

Would Jane and Ciara still be alive if his 1st wife had not advised him on 4/6/1996 of the impending birth of her child (allegedly) conceived by another man referred to as DF?

BRE told detectives during his 1st post arrest interview that he had socialized at pubs in Leederville and Subiaco. To get from Leederville to his homebase he more than likely would have chosen the route from Leederville via Newcastle and that puts him in the Palmerston Street locale. We know he used prostitutes.

He may h ave spotted the 20/6/1996 young lady whilst stalking pubs frequented by backpackers then picked her up at Roe/Fitzgerald. We know he stalked.

I don't believe he chose them to be found at all. It's far more likely that he just didn't care whether they were found or not.

I don't believe he chose them to be found at all. It's far more likely that he just didn't care whether they were found or not.

I think he was probably concerned about getting seen or heard, or leaving behind evidence, if he put them back in his car, or drove around with their bodies, or spent any more time at the murder/dump sites trying to better conceal or bury them.

Hence he hurriedly covered them with branches to make them harder to see.
