Two great young kids who we hope will take some big steps in the coming years. I was just wondering where everyone else thought we should play them. I reckon the place for Clarke is in the forward line. He is quick, inventive, and has strong hands for someone of his height. He would add extra excitement to a forward line that should look something like this -

HF: Hamill, Riewoldt, Clarke

F: Milne, Gehrig, Burke

That leaves us with Dal Santo. He too could be effective on the forward line, but I think he should play on a wing or even a half back flank. He has got great composure, good legspeed and fantastic skills. He would provide a lot of run out of the backline. My reasoning for this position is remembering seeing him run back with the flight of the ball and mark in front of a leading Barry Hall, all in his first game. The half back flank also seems to be a good breeding ground for up and coming midfielders.

Either way, we have two great young kids who will hopfully help lead our side to a premiership in years to some.

In my opinion, with Xavier it's all a case of physical development & a big pre-season. If we're basing him on 2002 form, he is either on the bench or in the reserves. If there's one thing you could aquire for him - IMO - it would be an injection of intensity. Looks too casual. Obviously he's got all the credentials & is a good kid, but he was just scraping in games at stages this year & would need a kick up the arse to continue getting them at this stage in his development.

Dal Santo, an absolute gun. Another year in the AFL system, a bit of extra bulk through pre-season weights & he's ready to have a permanent spot in the team. Where? Wing is an option....I like him at half back because his disposal is just so accurate that he can feed the midfielders with ease. His accountability is also very good.

Having said that, no reason why he couldn't play half forward. He's a good overhead mark & very courageous in the contest. To see him bombing goals from 55 metres on the run would also be a pleasure ala Joel Bowden.

Both will be great players for the club but I reckon the Clarke will be the better player. We will just have to wait and see.

ps. Clarke wasn't given a go, I can't see a premiership team with Milne in it but definately Clarke!

I just can't understand your Milne comment at all mate....

Clarke IMO has done little so far to suggest how good he is going to be, however like the transformation of Nick Riewoldt from 2001 Colt to 2002 Absolute gun, I am obviously willing to give X a big go.
