Strategy Clarko available for 2022, surely we must have a crack

Would you support landing Clarkson and paying out Nicks' last year?

Nicks will be having his contract extended. He would only come as a coaching director.
Good option.
This would compliment Nicks skills downstream but also provide a strong voice to management upstream.

Haha yeah I can really see Clarko coming to fill a hand holder role in his early 50s
Coaching director is one of his four options actually.
1... resume as a head coach somewhere.
2.... become a director of coaching somewhere.
3... take a role with the AFL
4...leave footy
When you look at the commitment required for each of these options, I think option 2 is potentially attractive to him.
But really...who knows?

He's a master at getting us top 3 draft picks. Extend this guy.
TBF though he hasn’t had the players.

He’s been good for team morale which is a start, considering where morale was when we had some precious dears running around.

He needs some decent fresh un-Adelaide players and at least one marquee top of the range player. Then we might see if he can coach instead of cheer for the hapless.

I thinks Nicks has done more than build morale, he has rebuilt our culture and values as a footy side

Yes the team gets beaten on talent, but they rarely throw in the towel, and they work for each other

We need to add talent, and depth to our list

For those draft enthusiasts on here, be careful what you wish for...

If Clarko did come in he will change the clubs recruiting and list mgt philosophy to match his own.

Clarko is not a believer in the draft, and prefers trading in players.... this seems to be the reason why Hawks have gone with Mitchell.

We will now see a significant different list approach under Mitchell, then what we would have seen under Claeko.

Nicks has rolled more top 4 teams then teams with better cattle, like Hinkley, this year.

One thing has been rather clear in 2021; Nicks has some coaching chops.

Nicks took over a spent team, seems to have fixed the culture and now has to rebuild the skills and talent. But apparently after effectively just 18 months, some say he needs to go.

On the hand Clarko, who has taken Hawks from 4th to 9th to 15th to about the same this year is a must get. So once was a champion, but may his time is past.

He’d know the cons as well as the pros too

If the cons are not telling Mitchell to not knee opponents in the thigh if it helps win, then I'm not too interested in the cons. Our club needs a win at all costs leader to infest it. Hopefully, at some point a decent balance that affords a flag and the sensibilities of our board might align.

maybe. But if you consider Cat's first few weeks along with Melbourne's ability not win against bottom few sides, those wins aren't as impressive as they look. More a false dawn if anything.

Yes. We have gone backwards this season.
Clarko is a once in a generation coach and this is the one chance to make us relevant again.
Players want to play for him. Would result in players wanting to come to the club
How do you figure we’ve gone backwards exactly? We’ve won more games than we did last year, we’ve blooded more kids. We’ve signed a s**t load of players. Our culture has improved enormously.

Can't agree with this

We have won more games in 2021, we have won against couple top 4 sides as well, this is despite not having Talia, Crouch or Milera all year

Prior to the season most people on here and in the media were saying around 6 wins woukd be a good outcome

We have also seen development in Schoenberg, Berry, Butts, RT, Ned, Jones to name a few.....

There is just no argument to say that we have gone backwards

Clarkson, if asked, would take one look at our list and say no thanks.

he’d be better of at the Blues or Suns. Probably the Suns.. I dont know that the Blues will ever change even with Clarkson.. they have overpaid for a handfull of lazy plodders and mercenaries who play for no one but themselves.. even the best coach in the world cant turn that pig s**t into strawberry jam.

Are we really finishing off the season better than last year?

Is hope higher now than before?

In the final part of last season we were one of the better performing sides, that isn’t true this year

We have not built on the promise of last season

Several super coaches have proved that mantra haven’t they. Ego perhaps?

Pagan and Malthouse both couldn’t turn Carlton around. I don’t know if you’d count Blight at St Kilda, Roos at Melbourne and Sheedy at GWS?

People forget how bad Brisbane were under Matthews after 2004 when all their premiership stars retired/were past their prime. They were horrible and nothing Matthews did helped.

After the St Kilda game, I think nearly all of us would have said we've improved.
Problem is we've regressed back to 2020 levels ever since.

Coughing up 60+ inside 50's every week is diabolically bad. I've never seen a team get so comprehensively beaten aerially each week either.

Not necessarily a bad thing..

Yeah but Nicksy made our players smile a few times.

Don't forget the jokey way he announces debuts. I wonder if they do a similar bit to tell them they're dropped the week after.

"Next phone that rings has to go on speaker"
ring, ring
"ah, Lachie, looks like it's you, put it on speaker mate, who is it?"
"it's mum, hi mum, what's up?"
"not you, we're dropping you down to the 2s"
click
cue raucous laughter from the group.
