But according to all the main board threads our list is overrated.

AFL media 'experts' are just as biased and hatred filled towards the hawks as bigfooty posters.

Its quite ironic isnt it. You just have to look at the All australians that Geelong and Brisbane got over the times they were winning premierships compared to the Hawks current era. Geelong got about double Hawks.

Agree, it has to be one way or the other. We get lot of AAs and no coach of the year or the other way round.

Slice it any way you like. Any subjective analysis on our club by those at other clubs/AFL/media is negatively biased because they are sick of the Hawks dominating the only objective thing in the game, premierships. Clarkson never having won 'Coach of the Year' is the epitome of this hatred towards the Hawks.
You can list a lot of factors in our favour but they don't go into the assessment of the criteria.

The most important point you miss is that the coach of the year is voted, on a weekly basis, in 3 2 1 format, by the coaches. Not the media. Given Clarko missed 5 games it makes it hard No matter what factors might have been in his favour.

As for AA votes. Its very statistically based. Our team shares the load while in other teams certain players dominate the stats. That's how the media "experts" make their dumb decisions.

Yeh but I just pulled out one example of how John Longmire by no way met in 2014 the criteria that you posted. There was no reason he deserved it more than Clarko that year.

Here are some other examples:

How can Malthouse get it in 2010 and Clarko not in 2013? Aren't Collingwood the most resourced club in the league. Collingwood had 4 AA's in 2010, Hawks had 2 in 2013

Thompson 2007, 2008.

Worsfold 2006.

None of these meet the criteria that you quote to say that they are an under resourced football department, they all recieved the award because they were able to guide their teams to a good position and ultimately the flag. Clarko does the same and the reward is not forthcoming. Clarko has had 4 premiership years and none of them were worthy of a award apparently.

In fact out of the 13 times the award has been awarded. 4 of the years were hawks premiership years, so Clarko did not recieve the award. 5 out of the other 9 years the award went to the premiership coach. So over 50% of the time the premiership coach gets the award..... unless your Clarko and then its 0%.

Dont see any love for Roos.

Dragged a basket case off the canvas. He has single handedly done this by taking that most winningest of cultures (sideny) and transplanting it to the home of football, reviving the cold, cold corpse of Melbourne, the Pride of the League! HE has rescued the very game of football itself in this country. For that alone he should be thanked with COTY. Of course, Praise be to the Swannies, he couldnt have done this without the Swans, who have taught him all there is to know about winning, and culture, and stuff, or the wallet of the AFL.

He wont win though, because COTY is not generous enough an award to bestow on one who has given so much to the game.

*it folks, Clarko and his proteges should continue to troll the vote by continuing to vote for flogs.

I don't care what anyone says. If we finish top 2 with losing Roughead as well as blooding many younger players he has to win it surely

I'd rather him not win it.
After all, recent seasons indicate that when he doesn't win "coach of the year" it's "Premiership Coach".

Clarko is more than a coach of the year.
He is now legend status.
If he gets another 1 or 2 flags and coaches the Hawks 15 - 20yrs, He should be considered the greatest of all time because of his constant ability to adapt to a far more demanding game and draw within an 18 team comp.
He has also taught so many and bred a string of solid senior and assistant coaches.

I get the feeling he will get the AFL coaches "Lifetime Achievement" Award before he gets the COTY.

Mind you, his career so far is more than enough to justify a lifetime achievement award already.

Loved seeing Clarko at the game last night. first prelim weekend off in 6 years and he doesnt take the extra week holiday, hes studying the oposition.
yeah we owe our recent success to priority picks
