This is the one I don't like:- Ball in the open, 2 players race to the ball and one wins, i.e. gets there first. The moment he touches the ball, the 'loser' smashes him to the ground in a very heavy tackle.

The player second to the ball actually has the advantage. That's wrong. Where is the reward for winning?

The best option for the player who won the race to the ball, is to tap the ball to his advantage, then take possession of the ball, having created a bit of space via his tap to an unexpected spot. Which would be fine, except the umps are allowing a full-bore tackle the moment he even touches the ball, by hand or foot.

Never used to be that way. You need to take possession, 2 hands, before a tackle is legal. C'mon umps.
