Specifically, arias by sopranos and mezzo-sopranos.These are my favourite type of classical music although i am probably still a novice when it comes to classical, despite finding an interest in it 10 years ago. There might not be many classical lovers here but we can use this thread to expand our knowledge nonetheless. My favourite soprano is Cecilia Bartoli (some say she is mezzo-soprano,i don't have the technical knowledge to hear the difference),and then Montserrat Caballe who some consider the best soprano ever.

Some of my favs:

Cecilia Bartoli - Sposa Son Disprezzata (Vivaldi) (Piano only):

Again, but with orchestra,or strings at least:

Cecilia Bartoli - Delizie Contente (Cavalli):

Montserrat Caballe - O Mio Babbino Caro

I hope some people bring some recommendations to this thread.Finding great classical is not easy!

FWIW I am over the old classics (Other than Mussorgsky) and pretty much mainly listen to modern neoclassical or contemporary classical pieces, a lot of which is mingled with touches of electronic and folk.

Didn't even search,i don't really like dredging up old threads.Keep the discussion fluid and all that :)

Mods can delete this one or whatever although this is specifically arias

edit:dude the old one is from months before i was even a member,no wonder i didn't remember it ;P
The last entry was only May last year :(

Elend is some great neoclassical, particularly 'Winds Devouring Men'

As is Dark Sanctuary,Secret Garden,Arcana,Eluvium,Dargaard, etc but if you're going to get into neo-classical,post some tubes so people can hear :)

Couldn't find anything from my favourite album, but picked out some other good ones.

Not my fave neoclassical stuff (I prefer contemporary classical) but still solid.

Not particularly on topic but my Phillip Glass obsession has reached new levels of extremity - just downloaded the Soundtracks for the Hours and Notes on a Scandal - its hypnotic!!

Orchestral Score for Psycho [can only get it on disk] is the best workout music!

His work on Fog of War was a belter as well. You have to like minimalism to get into it. I love him!
