If you jump to unhinged conclusions thinking they did it to be funny, then yes, they’ll need an “excuse”.

But the actual reason is he had a finger injury in the pre season before any speculation came out - and they’ve kept that going.

Which makes complete sense. And is not controversial unless you’re bending over backwards to make it so.
