Clean Out or Top Up

I belive that we have enough young talent on our list to be able top up at the end of the year and have a crack yet still be a force in years to come.

Here is a side made up of players already on our list for 2010-'12:

B: J.Frawley ________ D.Bell

HB: J.Rivers ________ C.Jonhson

C: R.Petterd B.Moloney C.Bartram

HF: M.Bate L.Dunn C.Sylvia

F: A.Davey M.Newton ________

R: P.Johnson B.McLean N.Jones

The obvious holes are full back and centre half back but if put Miller at CHB and keep him there he could develop into one. Also if we went hard for a Jayme Graham type in the off season the backline would look a lot better with Rivers helping out down there as the 3rd tall. If Miller doesn't work out then Ferguson/Carroll cold be used until we find something.

The forward pocket position could possibly be be filled by Garland but he hasn't shown much so far.

The ruck spot will be a bit shaky when White goes, but PJ will become number one ruckman. I suggesting trading Jamar and a pick for a backman then pick up a ruckman in this years draft and promote Shane Neaves from the rookie list.

i agree with some of your points but we need to get ride of the players who are just cruising collecting their paychecks.

Firstly where is Nathan Carroll? I guy is a solid full back but people say he had a bad year only because the midfield pressure on teh opposition was so poor.

We need to get rid of Bruce (soft and overrated), Green (The guy never keeps his feet), Yze(past it), Miller(if anyone would bother to take him) and possibly the likes of Sylvia and Whelan (both are good players but very injuryprone and i dont think someone like whelan is going to get anybetter and sylvia's body isnt up to it)

We Need a CHF, CHB. Our spine is very fragile and you cant win a flag without a solid spine.

We need to focus our gameplan on three players TJ, Wheatley and Chris Johnson. Before you have a crack think about it. Those three are the best kicks in our team. They should be the prmary ball movers.

We dont need Bruce and Green they are garbage, soft and are overrated.

I dont think we shud do much diff to normal. We have had 3 30+ players retire already, ward ,holland?? Ferguson,warnock delist trade miller, c.johnson (if any body will take him)

Get what we can in the draft.

Just remember this yr was wrecked by injuries and nothing else. No drastic measures have to be taken. If we hav a repeat of this yr next yr then we need to clean out

Topping up is fundamentaly wrong and clubs that have tried to do it - Adelaide (Wayne Carey), StKilda (Gardiner, Clarke) have been proven unsuccessful (yet to see what Sydney can do though). However the big rebuild of which the clean out is a basis for also requires getting quality players, and I dont think the draft is strong enough, or our players who are eligible (in the sense that we think they are a chance ie. Bruce, Green) are at the right stage to be flogged for picks.

I think at the end of this year we will be in a better position to work it out. The oldest player in your team will be Rivers I think and he will be around 24 so with a couple of good drafts and a 3 year waiting period Rivers would be around 28 with the young guns 22 and all the rest in the middle so we would be sweet. Thats the call, go for the heighest finish each year and hope to win a flag from about 2008 to 2011 or go the rebuild and say it all starts in 2012.
