I've noticed in every phantom draft i've seen he is slated to go to the bulldogs with pick 11. Is there ANY chance whatsoever of him slipping to 16/17. In percentage terms, are we talking 5% chance? Less? He seems to be tagged behind Kennedy, Dowler, Clark and Drum as far the KPP are concerned.

It will largely depend on what others want. We could be lucky - if any of the aforementioned are avaialble we would be silly to pass them up given we have two picks in a row.

Cousin , Stiffy and a very, very good player.

Likely to go early.

Play down back and on the ball.

Bit like a Stenglein, but quicker.

He's nephew, I'm pretty sure. I think there is a very big chance that he slips. The bulldogs have him there, because they assume Ryder, Kennedy, Clark, Dowler don't slip. If one of those makes it to the bulldogs, then they will probably take them over Cleve Hughes. This would mean Hughes will make it past the bulldogs and down further, hopefully to pick 16. Theres a much bigger chance than appears.

Hughes is a fine talent. In mould of a shall we say Poor mans Riewoldt/Hansen prolly better than the latter there. Great kick for goal and marks well around forward line, needs to take more contested marks tho but his frame doesn't warrant that yet I spose. Him will come good, certain future at AFL

Hughes and Drum great talents.

if we could get them 16 and 17 we would be laughing.

They will bring a lot to the table and the team.

Drum - great leadership. As I previously stated a quicker version of Stinger.

Hughes a KPP for the future.

Means we would miss out on Varcoe.

Pick 32 - remember the name tim Looby (Murray Bushrangers - can play anywhere - tough, strong, kicks well, good pace. PLayed HBF for Vic Country - played up forward including medium forward for MB - can also play midfield.

Have you seen him play, Stiffy.

This may certainly change your mind.

A taller midfielder like Stinger could very valuable.

Have not seen him play but reading his profile on footydraft, I am not all that keen on him. Iw ould rather get a genuine midfielder with our 1st round pick than someone who could develop into a midfielder. We too Stinger in round 2 and Cats took Ling in round 3 for a good reason. Turning KPP into midfielders is a risky business and I am not sure I would take that risk with a first rounder.

Websites for phantom drafts? I know there was a good one last year but not sure what the address was. Anyone willing to help me out??

Funny story about Damian Drum. My Dad is on Bumps, Biffs and Brawlers Part 2 and it is a clip of him punching Drum in the face.
My Dad was leading out from the forward line and took a mark over his head from memory. But meanwhile Drum was actually giving my Dad a squirrel grip! Yeah, I'm lucky to be here today. So Dad (the fiery tempered little bugger he was) turned around and snotted him one.
Naturally he got reported for it, but he actually used the squirrel grip as his defence at the tribunal and got off.
This was actually in a reserves game because it was between Melbourne and Richmond. My Dad was a Demon, but he never played against Richmond in the seniors.

Drum isn't really a midfielder, playing on a 3rd tall, more like a rivers type. Could grow more to hold down a KPP spot though.

Guys I have seen him play in the midfield for the Bushies.

He could do the job easily.

You do not need to turn him into a midfielder - he is already doing it.

His flexibility would be a decided advantage.

Ryan Okeefe for the Swans is quite tall too - and he can play up forward or in the midfield.

The Drum boy is a very professional person. Kevin Sheehan highlighted him when they were asking about ''trick questions'' at Draft Camp. They ask you who you barrack for etc.. he said '' I barrack for all 16 clubs'' Damian has certainly been in his ear and I feel he will give 100% towards building an AFL career.

Whether he goes home or not is in the lap of the gods but Adelaide-Melbourne isnt that hard to get back to every few months.

There's NO WAY Hughes would slide to us.

Of course I said the same thing about Fergus, so...
He is not known for his contested marking. He is a leading CHF who takes a lot of marks on the lead and not many contested marks. That could be his downfall. Having said that, he appears to be the sort of player that Bulldogs and Richmond love, so its hard to see him slipping past pick 11.

Yeah, good assessment. :thumbsu:

He isn't the flashiest player going around but gee isn't he consistent. Plus he's a good goal kicker for a CHF. His timing and positioning is very good and I can't see Bulldogs giving him up.

Still a little disappointed we didn't have a crack at him. But its all too late now, no one will want him after a few wasted years at Richmond. Players are pretty much damaged goods if they spend more than a year at Punt RD, ala Ottens, Schultz. Thorney the exception. You gotta feel sorry for the kid. To start and end your career in the same day must be heartbreaking.

Sorry lads. The link was working.

Everything Cleve Hughes had ever heard about undertaking an AFL pre-season is proving to be correct.

Grueling sessions, a tired body and backing it up the following day are all par for the course for the new Richmond recruit, but he is relishing the challenge as he lines up for his first AFL season.

"It's definitely been as hard as I thought it would be," Hughes, who was drafted by Richmond from Norwood with its second selection - No.24 overall - in last November's NAB AFL Draft, told afl.com.au,

"I knew some of the other players that I met up with last year that had just started their first season and they told me it was pretty hard, but your body gets the rewards from it at the end of it.

"It's definitely been pretty hard on the body, but I'm settling in pretty well now and I know what I've got to do."

The daily workload and having to cope with several sessions is something the tall forward is finding particularly taxing.

"You have one in the morning and then you've got to get your body up for another one in the middle (of the day) and then you've got to get your body up for another one in the afternoon," Hughes said.

"There is a lot of preparation for each session. Normally I get through the session but then the body is pretty buggered at the end of it and then you've got one the next day, so you have to take care of the body for the next one and it's all about getting it right for the next session - that's probably the hard thing."

Hughes, who gained All-Australian honours after shining with South Australia in last year's NAB AFL under 18 championships, said crossing the border to Victoria had been a relatively smooth transition.

"It hasn't been heaps tricky because I'm with a really good host family at the moment and they've got everything right for me. Now I've got a car and it's pretty easy to get around, so it hasn't been too hard," Hughes said.

"I'm probably missing the family a little bit at the moment, but they came over for a couple of days (recently), so that was good, but just having a good host family there has been good for me.

"I'm looking to meet a few more people around the place and that'll stop me from getting too bored and lonely."

Leading up to last year's draft, Hughes said he wasn't fully aware of Richmond's interest in him.

"I didn't really know. I had a little chat with them at the draft (camp), but apart from that I hadn't really heard from them," Hughes said.

"They didn't really think that I was on their radar, because they thought they wouldn't get me with their eighth pick and they thought I would fall between their eighth and 24th pick."

As for 2006, Hughes is looking to play solidly with the Coburg Tigers in the VFL, although he added that a berth in the upcoming NAB Cup was not out of the question.

"The coaches have basically said that it doesn't really matter about age or where you've been taken in the draft, whoever is playing the best footy will play (in the NAB Cup)," Hughes said.

"I guess they're going to play a few new young guys for that, but we've got a couple of little trials coming up to that and if I can play alright on some of the older guys, that'll probably give me a foot forward.

"The body is coming alright, but playing in my position, it'd be a little bit hard for me to play in the key position at the moment.

"They've been playing me on the half-forward flank a little bit and I've been going alright in the trials we've played and a little bit at full-forward, but nothing right in the key spots right now."
