So Crow reckons the solution was to keep doing what we were doing for the last 16 years? Because that was going so well....
Nope...I have always maintained the same thing...hire competent, qualified personnel for the correct jobs to be filled.
You do not under any circumstances hire businessmen/lawyers/baseball personnel to run football operations
You do not under any circumstances hire guys that should be head football coaches to run personnel department
You do not under any circumstances hire head coaches that should be coaching pee wee football.
If you look over the 16 years, there have been 2 occasions when the Browns had qualified people in the proper spots:
1) Butch Davis was a quality head coach---not surprisingly he steered the team to a playoff berth in 2 seasons (not 4 or 6 or 8 but 2 years)
2) The 2007 team had a horrific head coach but a pretty decent personnel guy (Savage)
Things fell apart for Butch when he was handed control of football operations---that never should have happened.
Things fell apart for Savage when he melted down on twitter--I would argue that although he had some misses, he is one guy that should have been given more time. He was saddled with Romeo as his head coach and that did him zero favors.
It is not nearly as hard as the Browns organization would have you believe.
