You want Nuclear because it's safer than solar? I'm not sure about that one.You say there's hardly a reason not to go nuclear? It's the economics(as well as radioactive waste and possible meltdowns). It's not feasible.
France already has the infrastructure. We live in a sunny, windy country. Why would you chose nuclear over solar and wind? It's absurd and shows how the Liberals would rather harm the economy than invest in comparatively cheap renewable energy.
There's no need to call Sarah Hansen-Young a 'dumb bitch' is there? If people had of listened to her, the Murray-Darling river system would not have collapsed. Another disgraceful environmental legacy from the nats and libs. She does more for this country than Barnaby Joyce that's for sure.Do you want to take back your misogynistic comments?
Of course there is.
The more truthful we are about her the better.
She's easily the lowest IQ and least qualified senior public servant in the country.
She cannot even distinguish between real life and reality tv.

She worked as a bank teller (likely sacked) for a very short period of time and that's the extent of her real life experience.

If you or anyone so much as give her the time of day you will be laughed at. She is truly dumb ....more than that though , she is truly worthless.

She cannot even cope with the rigours of tough politics without reaching for the Kleenex lawyer and hoping for a tax free payout from anyone with a few dollars that speaks the truth about her.

No other politician gets it sugar coated in here. She shouldn't either.

There is absolutely ZERO reason for NOT investigating the potential for nuclear power in Australia. To not even do the work, make a case, debate it then test public opinion is pure ignorance. It is the stuff of 19th century luddites. Regressive and moronic.

Every country that was smart enough to forge ahead has benefitted. It is safe, it is extreme output, can be purchased almost off the rack these days, and the country is more suited to it than ANY other nation on earth.

Trying to derail so much as a public discussion process proves she is an idiot. Her notion of research would be to type Hiroshima into Google and look at big mushroom cloud pictures.

I’ve posted this maybe 5 times already but once more for the folks up the back. South Australia held a royal Commission into nuclear viability:

Stephen Conroy earlier this week was spot on.

"Forget the Greens, they'll be the loons on this. I heard Sarah Hanson-Young on the radio this morning basically opposing all coal mining, developing new oil fields, this is insane. This is caveman politics.

The Labor party is better than that, they need to have a pragmatic way forward. The path to renewables is what everybody agrees on. Let's be sensible and pragmatic and I welcome Albo's comments that everything is on the table for review. Just got to get that balance right, we didn't get the balance right.."

Why would you put that up 5 times, then again ? What is it you are hoping to achieve ?
I thought it might help inform the discussion. You might want to read the report. It’s full of useful information for all sides of the debate.

When you say “To not even do the work, make a case, debate it then test public opinion is pure ignorance. It is the stuff of 19th century luddites. Regressive and moronic.”, it suggests to me you were not aware of the Royal Commission or its findings.

Great to see Sarah Hanson-Young rip the Nationals a new one. The Nationals and some Libs are advocating for the economic insanity of nuclear power. Some choice quotes from the much maligned but erudite Miss Young.
As conservative MPs move to establish a Senate inquiry into nuclear power when parliament returns next month, the Greens senator Sarah Hanson-Young has invited the former Nationals leader Barnaby Joyce to debate her in the “town he thinks it should be built”.

“Talk of overturning the ban on nuclear power in Australia is crackpot stuff,” Hanson-Young, who is the party’s environment spokesperson, said.

“Aside from being a dangerous technology, nuclear power is wildly expensive and would take a decade or more to build.

“It would be a funny joke if it wasn’t so embarrassing to have the Nationals, who are in government and who sit around the cabinet table, pushing for this.

“These people are meant to be in charge, and they’re running around like a bunch of lunatic cowboys."

Best way to lose an argument is to lead with "Sarah Hanson Young said something clever..."

The equivalent of a fool opening his mouth and removing all doubt.

She was right about the Murray-Darling, now look at what happened.I'm sure she wouldn't buy second rate water for $80 million to enrich her mates.Maybe she is just too much women for you?

The classic regressive greens.
The dangerous technology ? How exactly is nuclear power NOT the safest on the planet ?

Lets not embark on large infrastructure projects for the betterment of the nation....the green luddites don't like safe clean high output power generation.
Maybe we can bang on a tambourine and watch a few rooftop deaths installing toy solar panels.

Perfect place for it, time not an issue, resource rich, easy to dispose of waste safely, big coastline..harldy a single reason not to.
Just maintain the current mix, stop blowing up power stations, tell the greens to take a bex...then build some proper 21st century power generation for the future.

Hard to believe anyone would even quote that dumb bitch. She's probably assuming Homer Simpson would be working at the power stations.

The only Party that would have this campaigner for a leader is the bong smoking Greens.

The Greens would oppose the mining necessary for the technologies required to shift from fossil fuels.

A few years back I went to a conference presentation on sustainable mining that asserted we could replace all mining with recycling. It was back of the envelope calculation from a deranged greenie, it was almost laughed out of the room (even though he had a very good point about how lower grades in newer deposits meant more environmental degradation).

*head, Catholic, "moderates" are why Labor's lost millions of votes to the Greens and, if Stephen Conroy and co keep making the decisions, why they'll never get them back. Marriage equality and climate change should've been fish in a barrel for the Rudd-Gillard-Rudd Government. Instead, we got monstrous internet filters (that they knew wouldn't work) and unyielding adherence to the "centre".

Climate change has to be sold to the public correctly.
For example, fighting climate change will make Australians wealthy.
Australian scientists are the leaders in fighting climate change.
The patents that are developed in Australia will lead to billions of dollars flowing into the economy.
Let's get behind our greatest minds in Australia with the money they need to do their job.

Billions have flowed into cancer research because everyone is affected in some way by cancer.
Well everyone is going to be affected by climate change.

But that would be misleading and deceptive

We don’t have the taxation system to support R&D further the policies labor brought to the last election would have made it worse.

We don’t have a financial market to support it either which is a legal framework issue, corporations act and scale issue.

We don’t have a manufacturing industry either, so even if we overcome the issues above we have to sell the ideas overseas.

Solar panel importers, wind turbine importers and installers is our contribution to the world. Along with misleading ourselves regarding the effectiveness of renewables at reducing CO2.

Can you identify a jurisdiction on earth that has chosen wind and solar that has come close to achieving what hydro and nuclear have?

Of course you're right, and if we all thought like that then we would achieve nothing.

Incorrect

As per the last paragraph we would achieve a lot for the environment if we chose a solution that actually worked

Pumped hydro storage for renewable energy backup

https://thehub.agl.com.au/articles/...utm_source=m.facebook.com&utm_medium=referral

For AGL, as our traditional coal-fired power stations and, in South Australia, Torrens Island gas-fired power station progressively reach the end of their operating life, we’ve had to think about how to replace them at the least cost.

We've done the sums and what makes the most sense is cheap, renewable energy from wind and solar, combined with more flexible and firming energy sources (like quick-start gas generation, large-scale batteries and pumped hydro), that can supply energy during peak periods or whenever renewables aren't available

Yes, that is why they have potentially lost swing seats in Queensland and NSW forever. Not being enough like the Greens.

So Labor should have risked 80% of the supporter base in order to keep 20% of the supporter base - many of whom had been Democrat voters before hand.

I like your logic.

Its good to see Labor addressing these issues, there a few of the long serving decision makers (Swanny) who need to step aside. Lots of lessons to learn from losing the unloseable .. the same old needs to go.
