I can understand why people believe climate change is fake. It is a bit like the anti vaccine lobby who believe vaccine's are causing Autism. Do you know what the biggest killer in hospitals is, but is not widely publicized? Infections. They never mention this. But I digress.
7.5 billion people, over 1.5 billion cars, trucks, buses, ships, planes, volcano's producing over 40 billion tonnes of Co2. Where do you think this Co2 goes? The eco-system can no longer absorb the Co2 because we destroy our forests, and the oceans are warming because of this excess Co2.
Make no mistake, the planet is warming up. Vested interests use Bolt & co to peddle their BS hoping that the status quo will be maintained. The left wing loonies use it to try and scare the crap out of people and push their agenda. Renewables are part of the solution, but can't be done overnight but it works and will get cheaper as the years go on.

The use of electric cars means less reliance on petrol, and guess what everyone saves a lot of money and the Arab States have to find another industry to rely upon.

Why are they not planning electric or wind ships?
Oh its because their CO2 doesn't belong to a country who gives a shit.

So take giving a shit out of the equation, and tell us why electric ships are not competitive?

Well the military uses nuclear vessels, which is sort of what you are referring to. Very effective and efficient. The main priority would be to get 1 billion gas guzzlers off the roads. That would make a significant impact.

Really?

Depends on the molecule. 500 ppm of Co2 could raise the Earth's temperature by 3 degrees. We're now over 400 ppm.

Is it the idea that such a tiny quantity could have such a large effect that you find hard to fathom?

Here's an analogue. Hydrogen Cyanide is deadly to an adult human at 357 ppm. Death would take under 2 minutes.

Extrapolated over the globe a mere 357 ppm could kill most life on the planet.
In the past temperatures were colder when it was at 500ppm. Where do yo get this bs that temps will increase by 3 degrees?

That's the crappiest analogy ever and indicates that you have no idea about the chemistry.
Its like comparing liquid getting into the chalk.

Cyanide toxicity is not a simple ppm threshold, its a combination of concentration and exposure. It is ALWAY's toxic.
You are comparing a biological poison with thermodynamics.

How will you charge your electric vehicles. I'm in favor of the nuclear solution you mentioned, other sources are problematic.
If you charge your car with the existing coal or gas, then you are probably putting out more emissions than a small efficient diesel. ( or as you emotively call it , gas guzzlers ).

The first thing on the agenda needs to be energy supply. The current solutions seem to be to make industry unviable due to high prices.

We want Australia to "appear " sqeaky clean" by ................
Digging big holes in the ground and getting the dirt on ships as efficiently as possible . Then
Shipping overseas, not counting the co2 that ships produce.
Buying products from overseas not counting the co2 that is used to produce such products.
Selling coal and gas to the overseas power companies. where they make co2 and make heaps of things we could make in Australia if our costs weren't so high.

Yaaaay Australia being clean. ( NOT ).

Every solar or wind generator needs a reliable backup, or brownouts that are not acceptable to industry.
No-one is investing in this backup , the capitol is too high for the utilization.
Elron's batteries ain't going to cut it.

No. I'm only stating that just because 400ppm is small doesn't mean the impact would be. That's what the post I quoted suggested.

I'm not comparaing cyanide toxicity to the process by which Co2 traps heat.

Of course it's more complicated than that.

You and people like you are yesterday. You will find reasons not to do anything, even try and save the planet.
Look around and see what is happening. Stop being part of the problem, and start helping find a solution.

Global climate change has already happened. It has happened years before climate scientists have predicted it. What is happening right now is denial. Next will come blame and anger. After that acceptance and change, at a great cost.

People seem to be more terrified of the blame than anything else. They wan't to be able to fly overseas on hydrocarbon driven aircraft, and tell their fellow backpackers that we have wind power in Australia so its not our fault.

Even the most efficient Diesel engines are inefficient.

That old poster doesn't relate to efficiency.

An efficient common rail, direct injection turbo diesel can get 45% efficiency.
While its possible to get a highly efficient combined cycle gas turbine with 60% efficiency, we've been building the cheap crappy ones like Mortlake power station, which probably only has 35 to 40% efficiency. ( but its cheap to build ).
Transmission losses probably average 8% so even the 60% efficient one ends up being only 55% efficient at the house then there's the charging efficiency of your car, i think Tesla are currently on around 92%.
So its Diesel at 45% with Electric at 50% ( from the best power stations that we don't have many of). Diesel car at half the price.

All of that is true, except the bit about the poster not relating to efficiency. Energy in, useful energy out is efficiency. The benefit of electric cars over fuel vehicles is that it can then be worked on the inputs in to power generation (wind, solar, geothermal).

I won't argue with that, i was arguing with a statement that the first order of business is to get the "gas guzzlers " off the road, and get electric vehicles.

First order of business is a base load power solution. Its not right if we close coal stations, and allow inefficient gas turbines.

Oh boy! Scientists are just now proposing spraying the atmosphere with sulphates out of specially designed airliners, and claim that its as yet an unproven technique?!? Why then have they been doing this exact thing for decades now for anyone with working eyes to look up and see happening for themselves? Oh but dont worry, its just a contrail they told me, you're just a tinfoil hat crazy person they tell me. Heres a bit of wisdom: Climate Change is psuedoscientific rubbish, a problem concocted to sell to the public through huge fear mongering campaigns and fraudulent data. Once they sell us the problem, they give us the "solution", which is something they always wanted to happen but couldnt really do without enquiries and protests. Its a shame just about everyone has had their perception so warped they cannot see the world as it really, really is.

International Shipping em mitts more Carbon than Australia.

https://ec.europa.eu/clima/policies/transport/shipping_en

Apart from making ships more efficient how's this for an idea.

Instead of SHIPPING coal and ore to China , making it into steel , then SHIPPING the steel to places that need it and SHIPPING the waste to a suitable location.

Why not.
Make the Steel near the mine, using coal shipped by far more efficient rail.
Then ship the steel to places that need it and backfill the waste into the mine.

The international community should subsidise Australia to do this.
Now it would in fact increase Australia's per-ca-pita emissions, but would reduce the overall world emissions. Per-ca pita emissions are nonsense.

Instead, the emissions from ships are largely ignored because they can't be associated with any single country.
People still can't think globally when it comes to "global" emissions.

Hi all.
Tried searching but couldn't find anything on Global Warming/CC. I've always had a keen interest in debates about whether it's actually happening or if it's BS. Some compelling arguments either way.

I actually think that the debate is whether climate change is natural and enviromental, or if it is "man-made".

I would say it's natural, doubt what 50 years of human ****ery can cause that much damage, you need to think long and expansive on this issue imo, the only way anything makes any sense

I must emphasize at the out start that the Harvey Manfrenjensenden is not a politician. So I'm not here today as a Liberal, nor as a Labor representative; not as a Mason, nor as an Green; not as a Protestant, nor a Catholic; not as a Christian, nor a Jew; not as a Baptist, nor a Methodist. I am here today to bring to life the greatest fraud perpetrated on the citizens on Earth since the Bible.

So here's what the Corporate media expect you to believe.

For the past 100 years the Industrial revolution has done that much damage to the environment that the climate is "changing" for the worse and we as a species are in serious danger, as well as the planet and unless we cut carbon emissions and ride our bikes to work the world as we know it is going to end. And your average factory working, god fearing idiot reads it and says to themselves, and anyone who listens "well we are pumping a lot of CO2 into the atmosphere and the dinosaurs didn't drive cars and look what happened to them right?" And here's the kicker. Then the throw up some chart like this....

1579158992512.png

and quote a few stats about average rainfall since the 70's and people lose their ****ing minds. But it doesn't end there. Melinda Plesman took crazy to a new level when she hauled the remains of her burnt home to the steps of Parliament to blame the current Prime Minister for losing her home and the papers printed the story.

NEWS FLASH MORONS:The earth is billions of years old. 50 years of weather records means **** all. Just because I got more sex in the 90's doesn't mean that frigidity rates have risen to crisis point across the globe.

Malcom X summed it up best. "You’ve been had. You’ve been took. You’ve been hoodwinked. Bamboozled. Led astray. Run amok"

But don't take my word for it. Sure you can chose to look at the changes over the last 100 years and draw all sorts of scary conclusions OR you could dig a little deeper and look a little at the history of Earth and its climate and try arrive at a more reasoned and educated understanding of whats really going on here.

Temperature estimates relative to today from over 800,000 years of the EPICA ice cores in Antarctica. Today's date is on the right side of the graph.

I presume you mean without humans? Could not tell you. Anyone who believes that 40 billion tonnes of Co2 has no effect is deluded.
As the ocean temperatures rise, they will release all of the frozen methane gas that lies at the bottom of the ocean. Once that happens our temperatures will sky rocket. Stick your head in the sand and listen to Andrew Bolt. Same guy that said 50 or so people died at Chernobyl.

It is not our generation that will feel the full ramifications of climate change, it will be our kids and grand kids who will wonder why we ignored the signs and did nothing.

Plants will be rejoicing over an additional 40 billion tonnes of CO2, which is just as well because we are all dead without them.
