ON THE BACK of a heartbreaking 11-point loss to Fremantle at Subiaco Oval on Sunday, defender Clint Bartram says Melbourne can match it with the best in the business when it is up and going.
After Melbourne trailed by 44 points in the second quarter - yet got back to within a point in the third and final terms - Bartram said it showed Melbourne could match it with the AFL’s top teams, when on its game.
“In the third quarter, it just showed that when we pressure the opposition we can be one of the best teams in the competition, but on the other side we only played one quarter of footy, again,” he told melbournefc.com.au.
“It’s obviously something we’ve got to address. On the road it’s always going to be hard to come back and peg a good side, so it’s something we’ve got to work on.

It was an interesting match-up yesterday, didn't Bartram's missus leave him for Cotchin last year?!
Played well yesterday on Cotchin. Definititely needs to work on his kicking but I didn't notice it too much yesterday. In an ideal world our better kicks would work harder to get the ball off him so he doesn't have to kick as much and can concentrate on tagging.
This is the crux of it.Like it or not- we're stuck with him until we can find another stopper who isn't a spud offensively. Bail may be that man but I dont like the idea of him being in such a negative role...
Kind of glad I haven't seen a Dees version of the Coke Zero kicking adds.I can forgive some of the sloppier kicks as long as it doesn't mean he undoes all his hard work. But I also don't want to start rewarding poor disposal. With the skinnier guys you stick them in the gym over summer, what do you do with guys with poor disposal? Stick them in a room full of footys?
