Seriously whats this crap about trading for him??? Unless Young has asked specifically for it done this way as a goodwill gesture, I am stuffed as to why that would be done that way otherwise!

Once again, how can they ask for a draft pick if he is unrestricted?
Unless i've missed it, i havent seen anyone answer this.
We dont have too. But maybe by not losing him as a FA they get some benefit if he goes as a trade. FIIK.
As long as it's a pick we wont use anyway, 3rd or 4th rounder it's all good.
We don't have to give up anything. But it would be good form to throw a late pick we aren't going to use as a good will gesture.
I say give them nothing.Agree with Quicky, Give them a late pick as a gesture.

Hunt for Young heats up![]()
COLLINGWOOD believes Clinton Young is unsatisfied with the deal the Hawks have on the table but concedes the midfielder will be hard to prise from Hawthorn.
Young, 26, is an unrestricted free agent and has been heavily linked to Collingwood after touring the club's facilities earlier in the week.
He has also been linked to Port Adelaide in recent days.
The Pies have room to move after Sharrod Wellingham's trade to West Coast and Chris Dawes' expected move to Melbourne and are keen on the premiership wingman.
However, they acknowledge it will be no easy feat lure Young from the club he was drafted to in 2005.
"We've certainly spoken to Clinton and his manager," Collingwood director of football Geoff Walsh told Gillette AFL Trade Radio on Friday.
"I understand, and I don't really know, that apparently the offer they've made to recontract him is something his management is not entirely happy with.
"Notwithstanding that, 10 years at one club and a successful club, and their window is still well and truly open, it's a big call to say I'm moving on.
"That will be the issue with him."
Walsh said Young's skill set, which includes precise kicking and impressive run and carry, made him an attractive commodity to the Pies.
"I think the main reason we've spoken to Clinton and his management is that we know what he provides; wing half-back, wing half-forward, he's a run and carry player, he kicks the ball long, he's an 80-90m transition player," he said.
"There's a lot of things that make him attractive to anyone, and we're no exception there.
"The boy's obviously got some thinking to do but he's also got a fair degree of loyalty to the Hawthorn Football Club, I would think, so it will be a big decision if he decides he wants to move on."
Hawthorn are trying to get a draft pick greater than the compo pick they would have got. If we trade we get Young. If we do not he may stay at Hawthorn. It is a game of cat and mouse. The Hawks are trying to work the system. We must stay strong and either get him for nothing or let him go.
Another reason that Hawks want a trade is that they may be planning on bringing in a free agent in the next two weeks. This would of course effect their compo pick for Young.
But how can the deal actually go through?
Would they need to sign him first, then on trade him? Can they do this?
If we sign him outright, how can we give up a pick without something in return? Wouldn't they be separate transactions?
So even if Young is uncontracted and unrestricted, Hawthorn have the ability to trade him?
I honestly must be missing something here in terms of how they have the ability to trade an uncontracted unrestricted free agent for a pick.
The Bombers traded Monfries despite him being a FA because Port Adelaide did not want to mpact their compo pick. FA can still be traded.
True, so im assuming the AFL has a sign and trade policy?
I can see this for a restricted FA, but think its rather strange that this can be done with unrestricted guys.
I mean, what's from stopping us on trading Lynch for Tippett (not that it would happen).
Seems like a stupid rule to me.

FA still needs some work. Look at the Lake situation. He becomes an unrestricted free agent next year so he tells the Bulldogs that he will leave next year for nothing unless they trade him to the Hawks. Bulldogs had no choice. Strong get stronger, weal get weaker. The situation with Young is interesting because two strong clubs are going at each other.
Hawthorn have no right over Young as an unrestricted free agent.
Choice is very simple.
Accept Collingwood's offer and the Hawks get nothing.
Reject the Pies and re-sign and finish your career as a one club player.
Fellas I have stated once and I'll say it again. Clinton Young will be at Collingwood in 2013. Dave please relax. Why don't you tweet Clinton. Lets just say I was at a gentlemen's bar with some very heavy hitters right in the middle of this and Clinton has indicated he will be at the pies. We may also have a little play with some of our top 20 picksthat's all I will say. Giddy up cos things are gonna get hot the next couple of weeks
