If we don't get Young, we're done for the next decade I'm afraid.
Need a full rebuild.

What do I win?

Sounds like we are Favourites to this video:

Now David seriously.... How in God's name have you come to the conclusion that we are favourites after watching this video? This is a joke... As I have said many a time, he's just a good half back flanker, simple!!!

I think the hype around Young and why we are interest is that he is an 80 metre player.

He carries the ball for 20 and can kick it 60.

Having his kicking ability as a left footer allows run and carry on the inside when kicking to what would be the cheer squad end, transitioning the ball alot faster into the 50 which hopefully isolates Cloke and his defender. So many times we end up chipping the ball to just outside the 50 and it ends up far too congested, giving teams oppurtunity to have a third man up against Cloke.

His left boot would, IMO add another 10-15 goals a season to Trav. I'm not sure how that will equate to wins, but it certainly makes us a more potent entering our 50.

He is also an 90 metre player that can carry for 20 then kick for 20 straight to an opponent who kicks it 50 straight back into opp fwd 50 for a goal!

God help us if Young gets involved in the chipping game. I'm happy if he's in the team but Buck should let him know that he'll be dragged any time he decides to kick it less the 50m.

Slight addition

I think you are giving him too much credit. He's a better decision maker than Simon Buckley (few aren't), but he is still very much in the mold of take a few bounces, run and kick it as far as you can without looking. Having a number of Hawthorn supporting mates, I know he's one of those players that frustrates the piss out of them. He's certainly no Suckling who can roost at 60, but actually pin point targets in the process. As we've seen with Buckley, long kicks to contests aren't always the best option despite the distance it gets the ball going forward. Teams are too good at sweeping off half back these days.

The only thing suckling has going for him is his kicking. He's weak as piss, shithouse 1on1 and slow.

He's an awesome kick, but it takes him 8 seconds to kick a ball! God forbid there's a little pressure.

I think you undersell him. I'm a bit ambivalent on Young tbh. But what he does offer is an a long kick to advantage into our forward line. That is his strength and it adds another dynamic to our offense. He may not quite have Sucklings precision but few do, he's an exception. Young is more than just a long kick to a contest.

Again, this is only a rumor, Clinton Young has spoken again in private with Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley, as a "reassurance" and it's understood that Collingwood is set to be his destination club. Despite Port Adelaide, Brisbane and Essendon also making late plays with the unrestricted free agent, Young has only met with Collingwood at this point. It's understood that Young is seeking out a new club because he wants increased responsibility and more midfield time, something that Collingwood can offer, given Wellingham's exit form the club. Clinton Young only has 4 days remaining of Free Agency this year, and must make a decision within the remaining days.

I love youngy and I expect him to go to the pies and I will wish him all the best as he is unfortunately being squeezed out due to cap pressure, it's a shame his last moment of being a hawks player is a very embarrassing one and was one of the worst moments I've seen from a Hawthorn player, I wish he could stay and make up for his effort but alas it most likely won't happen.

To be honest, your quote sums up Youngy a little too. Suckling is easily the better kick, they are both weak but Suckling would be the weaker one, both are terrible 1 on 1 and both have similiar pace, not slow but not that quick either. In saying that, they are weapons and if used properly, they can provide great offense and carry the ball 70-80 metres very quickly. All teams need these type of players in the side. Don't ever rely on them to stand up in a contest though. That's just an honest description of both players from a mad hawks fan.

I'd be disappointed if the club didn't give Johnno a contract. Not only the fact that he's much loved, but because he worked so hard to get back this year, he still has the desire IMO.

the thing about desire is it can go in one off-season, especially for players who already been through 10+ hell-like preseasons

These three things would all be factors if the decision was to be made on emotion. And none of them should be looked at if the decision was going to be made on projected output.
