Clinton Young - Thoughts?

Still seems pretty difficult, he's a 10 year premiership player in a side that is GF favourites next season. I doubt his position in their side is in any threat so we would have to offer significantly more than what they are willing to pay. On the face of it, given the room in our cap we'll have from Dawes and Wellingham leaving, Young is a must get since it will strengthen us and weaken Hawthorn. However lets not forget that putting Young on a big deal will make it more difficult to sign up some of our guns in the next year or so. It's tough to see where we're at but I'd say it's probably one for the accountants.

I said on Wednesday earlier in this thread Young was 100% a Pie. At that stage I had seen messages where he indicated he was. Since then, going by media reports Hawthorn have upped their offer. However I'm still very confident he'll be a Pie.

As a few others have said, you don't wait this long to sign unless something is up. Expect his signature very soon.

He wasn't 100% a Pie on Wednesday. That's simply speculation. Credit to the Pies in that they've formulated an offer that sorely tempted him, but the fact of the matter is that he doesn't want to leave Hawthorn, nor do we want him to leave. This was the position on Wednesday when he was waiting for a counter offer from Hawthorn.

Well if you are Correct that he was Waiting for a Counter Offer from Hawks which they gave and he is not Happy then he will sign at the Pies then

Yep that's true, he's first priority is to stay at Hawthorn, however I know Wednesday he was very much in the Pies camp (I won't say 100%). Hawthorn have upped their offer so the ball is in his court, is it enough to make him stay. Obviously not financially, but the Hawks would hope his links to the club get him over the line.

Either way one would think he'd come to a decision this weekend, Monday shall be interesting!

Well It was interesting to hear Walsh say That the Latest Offer they are not happy with.

I agree with that he would Rather Stay with the Hawks but If he is not Happy and they don't up there offer early next week then he is a very good chance of being a Pie

Why? That just means the Pies' offer is better. But we're not talking huge bucks difference here, and knowing Clinton, his decision will be based on more than just money. I will say this: if he goes to the Pies, it will be a huge, gut-wrenching decision for the lad. He's not a mercenary type (in that plying his trade anyway for a few extra shekels). I watch with interest.

I think we all agree with what you say.

May not be the $$$ being a huge difference however, the term of the contract may also be appealing for added security.

2 years at Hawks or 3 years at Pies on slightly better money with assurances of a permanent role in the team?

I say assurances because when you try to recruit a player from elsewhere, you normally guarantee them a certain role within the team. It's not like we would be chasing Young to be a "depth" player.

Will be interesting.

I don't profess to know the details of the respective contracts, but I agree with the general tenor of your post.

I will say, I am privvy to some close information here, and that talk of it being a done deal either way (and this goes back the last week) was pure speculation. And off the mark.

Young is undecided, but if I were a betting man I'd lean to say he will stay a Hawk. But that's not based on anything much.

So at the Moment it's 50/50 If he Stays and Go.

I say it be what his Down Syndrome Brother Says would In my Mind have a Big Barring on his Decision. Will Collingwood make another Pitch to him over the Weekend?

i don't why we are getting so caught up with Clinton YOung. I guess he doesn't cost us much but I am struggling to understand where his spot is in this best 22;

B OBRien, Brown, Maxwell
HB Toovey, Reid, Shaw
C Thomas, Pendlebury, Sidebottom
HF Didak, Paine, Beams
F Krakouer, Cloke, Lynch
Foll Jolly, Ball, Swan
Int Blair, Goldsack, Fasolo, Johnson

Depth; Seedsman, Keefe, Caf, Clarke, Williams, Elliott, Mooney, Sinclair, Witts etc etc

Who drops out for Young? Personally I would like Seedsman to be the one bc I tend to agree with a few Hawks fans insomuch as he can burn the footy whereas Seedsman is a very good user of it. i know Didak and Johnson are leaving next year so if thats the reason sure but i don't think its a massive either way.

Personally I would be keener and for the life of me cannot understand why they are not targeting back up for Jolly. Surely they have lost patience with Wood. Given what Bucks obviously told Dawes I can't believe that the discussion with Wood went much better.

My view. Ditch the notion of Young and go spend a pick on getting Giles into the side or even McIntosh if #39 suffices or save your money and hit a FA next year with the money we save. I guess some will say of we land Martin in the Dawes deal it solves that but I would prefer Pederson to him.

I'm a betting man and my money is on Young joining Collingwood! If he wanted to play with Hawthorn next year he would have already signed. Loyal players are prepared to accept less $$ to stay @ their club and its clear that Clinton isn't prepared to do so.

I would Drop Johnson for Young and is Sidebottom a Wingman?

Could we get Martin in the Dawes Trade?

I doubt Pick #39 would get us Giles or McIntosh.

Well you could say Yagmoor is similar to Young

Young is gone for sure!!

Look at this scathing bio of him. I've never seen one saying
"It is unclear if Young is still one of the club's best 22. His run and carry and penetrating left-foot kicking were important ingredients in the club’s premiership surge of 2008, but have been lacking since."

It's like they are telling clubs they are going to have a shit one if they pick him up.

Yagmoor is a long way from Young. He might have a fair amount of skill, but that doesn't make him an AFL player, yet.

Because he is free to get and he will push a player out to depth and more depth is always good especially if we have injuries like this year! Injuries will happen and he is in our best 22 i believe anyhow.

Depth; Seedsman,Caff, paine, Keefe, marley, elliott pick 17,18 and 20, buckley, sinclair and maybe even clarke

Seedsman - hopefully he can really make his mark (exciting prospect)
Elliott - Needs to kick more goals not in best 22 as yet
Paine - close but rather the falls to be lynch, cloke and sack
Marley - similar as seedsman
Young - would be fantastic on a wing
Caff - may work his way in probably ahead of elliott
sinclair - hopefully depth and pretty far down
clarke- hopefully further down than sinclair
johnson - pressure to keep spot ahead of seedsman and marley
picks - hopefully a goal kicking, fast small forward to put pressure on fasolo and caff
