I'm not interested in Cloke. Boak on the other hand or GCS kids???

But right now feel Carlton have made another error by signing Waite to a 3 year deal. I sure as hell hope there is a clause in it. From what I remember, the CFC put forward a 2 year deal and Waite said no and that it had to be 3. Then we caved. If his body doesn't hold up, it will be again another bad decision which will deny us paying good money to someone how can earn it by being out on the ground.
I hope so as well, minimum games met or something, when does he go onto Veteran's list, hopefully contract was back ended???

Waite should of been given max a two year deal and if he walked so be it. He is far to injury prone which makes it impossible to build a side around him.

Regarding Watson if we don't give him a game and someone else is willing to then as per Grigg can't blame him for leaving.

With Watson, offered a little more money at GWS and guaranteed game time amongst kids his age. Also Steve Alessio (Essendon) is his uncle and played during Sheedy's tenor at the Bombers so Matthew has some deep respect for Sheeds on a more personal level (I think Matthew was even a bombers supporter as a kid) so he hasn't been too hard to sway.

I'm not surprised.. Ratten has said anyone that's signed with GWS won't play and seriously against GWS, Melbourne with our injuries and playing some kids why he hasn't been given a run fuels my belief too that he's going.

Why you not interested in Cloke, his type up forward the very thing we need.

Injuries weren't to KPD though which is where they are hoping for him to play, I would of liked to see him given a chance up forward last week as there wasn't a match up for him down back.

There probably is a match up for him against the Power with Westhoff and Schulz, will be interesting to see what happens with him at selection this week.

Cloke is a package deal. Do we need his psycho father causing endless shitstorms around the club? Not to mention it's alleged he played for Richmond and Collingwood as a kid.
Not too mention all the cows and sheep roaming around the club....

And no to his father, would only screw us over!

Cloke- Will be asking too much for us to consider. Lets develop Hampson, Mitchell, Rowe and Levi. Got alot of hope for Mitchell in particular and can also see Hampson of 40+ per season if he spends most of his time at FF

Would be interested in Boak, depending on what we would need to give up.

Waite goes onto the Vets list next year so he wont tie too much of our available money on it because only half will count towards the salary cap. Im sure the club thought it through before giving him a 3 year deal. Also I think he would be on less per year on a 3 year deal than if he had only taken a two year deal. For example 2 year deal on 600K per year or 3 year deal on 500k (which would mean only 250 out of our salary cap)*

*No idea of his wage and those figures are just an example.

Just so you are aware, the veterans list no longer works like that. Now you can only take 100k from the salary cap from every player who fits under the veteran criteria*

*Starting in 2013 anyway, when Waite would be eligible.

Another AFL reg changed just as we are about to benefit. Nice.

Old man was the best of the whole family by a margin, saying something given how good Travis is, don't care who he played for, and it was 333 games, although I'm sure you're tongue-in-cheek with that.

As far as endless shitstorms it'd be no different to any other manager. Just want to win a flag and if Travis Cloke was the man to fill the breach I'd have him in a heartbeat. I'll suffer the shitstorms, worth it for a flag. All I care about.

Whether we can afford him is another matter, not that I expect him to really leave the Pies, although I'd still be willing to throw some decent $$$$$$ at him.

Hmmm, we do have something of a surplus. Do you think we might first arrange a trade for Gibbs, Bower, Tuohy, Armfield, Davies, Russell, Duigan etc ?
You can't afford to rest on your laurels. Gibbs won't play back forever. Don't forget that Duigan is already 27/28 and Scotland won't go on forever. Armfield isn't best 22. No one on here knew of Laidler, so you have to back your list managers. Some cracked it after we traded for Laids.

We're not going to get a superstar like we did in 2007. It's just not going to happen. We're severely disadvantaged in that market.

We've got these pools to work from:

  • The "Laidler" - a kid who's not getting the opportunity he wants.
  • The "Henderson" - a not-yet-established, interstate, high pick waiting to be invited home.
  • The "Harris" - they have a few good years left and will come cheap.
  • The "Crameri" - a rough diamond from outside the system.
  • The "Touhy" - the international route.

I think I heard once that McKay said when Waite is moved onto the Veteran's list half of his salary would be outside the cap (ala the old system). There might be a window where players who have signed contracts before the new system is introduces (eg last year) but go onto the veteran's list after 2013 (Waite) still fall under the old system.

Yeah I heard the same during his contract talks.

Speaking of the Internationl Route, Ciaran Kilkenny is likely to join us next year.

That news is two months old, if not more. He committed to Dublin about a week ago turning Carlton down in the interim.

IF we have the room for Travis Boak if I were running the show I'd go for him. From the Henderson pool I'd be interested in seeing what it would take to get Koby Stevens from the Eagles. The Bombers are all up for getting Josh Toy so I'd drive his trade value up.

What do people think about Charlie Dixon (200cm, 101kg)?

Huh?
this guy is the type of footballer we need more of.
ok maybe not the best disposal but fast, hard, courageous and does exactly what the coach tells him.

I agree with General in that Armfield isn't best 22 in a premiership team. He's great as the 23-30 type guy who comes in 6-12 games a year as depth but to count on him in the best 22 of a premiership team is asking for trouble.

Of course Cloke is worth considering. We lack a genuine key forward and Travis is just about the best in the business.

Having said that I'd think we're no chance of getting him. Can't see us being willing or able to offer anywhere near as much as some other sides in terms of money. If Fremantle, GWS or Melbourne want to part with a million per year for his services, let them.

We have a real opportunity to strengthen our squad by bringing in certain players from other clubs. Cloke may well be one of those options but the likes of Boak, Surjan, Caddy, Toy, Stevens and Moloney appeal to me more, for various reasons.

Shaping up to be a very interesting off-season and I hope we're in it right up to our necks.

Certainly worth pursuing big Charlie, we need another developing big who could ruck a bit to cover for injuries or loss of Warnock if he were to go.
