Could he possibly miss from twenty metres out? I mean, I could kick a goal from twenty metres out.

It's something I always thought about though, why we don't play Trav at Full Forward and not Centre Half Forward, Dawes pushes up the ground away and could be used more in that lead up role and Travis could be pushed permenantly to the goal square to take contested marks, not allow players to get back on him and such because he's always in packs, but if we can move the ball QUICKLY down to Cloke Vs Dawson, well I fancy Trav's chances of kicking say ... 4 goals 10 behinds? That's thirty four points though.

It just seems Travis is taking alot of shots from the boundary, outside fifty, forty metres out and struggling but if we got a game plan to expose Dawson because we know Travis is alot stronger than him, we could be alot more effective going forward because when we bomb it in mindlessly at times, we'd at least have Trav there in a one on one rather than a three on three.

Easier said than done though, he is a bad kick for goal, but as I said I could kick a goal from twenty metres out and I can't kick for the frig of it.

I actually get more nervous when he is close... and I mean close

Because Trav is fantastic at CHF - he takes all the marks and is a good link player. I would worry more from him kicking 20 meters out, anyway... :P

Ahh Quicky, Mdc, myself and a large number of others have gone on and on at length about Cloke at FF rather then CHF and the benifits of that, the fact is he has played a much more FF like role this year. Barely any FF in history has ever been restricted purely to the goal square and in the modern game it's just not possible to have a goal square only FF with the way teams defend they would be useless. The fact is fowards need to kick from the distances he is missing from. My main argument in having him play as the FF rather then CHF is he will create oppertunities others won't and his field kicking is as bad as his goal kicking so either way he is a high chance to turn it over.

could play him and Dawes deep and Leroy at CHF and see how that goes.

wouldnt mind seeing that happen or have Dawes sitting 20m out and Cloke in the square
prefer to see dawes leading up and presenting

He just wont outbody and take chest marks in a grand final

He kinda needs to be a good 40 metres out for me to be confident in his kicking. Either that far out or literally at the top of the goal square. Infact, I recall him missing from the goal square against Melbourne not so long ago.. He hit the post :p.

Ahh Clokey, we love you :)

I'd actully play Trav up the ground, almost in the midfield. He takes the contested mark from a kick out or as a link and kicks long into the forward line for Dawes whoever else. As long as we get it inside the 50, we have enough crumbers or talls to get it through the big sticks.

This although he is not the worst foward to struggle against the St kilda defence and won't be the last but FFS he needs to give us something next week. All I heard about pre-season was what a huge tank he had well here's his chance to use it. At very worst take Gwilt out of the contest, get some linking ball at the half back line and provide a target there, lead up and work back into the goal square and try and get an uncontested chest mark that way.

Not true.

1stly Trav is, as I mentioned earlier a poor kick in general play, not just for goal when you combine that with the fact that other then Trav our KPF are Leroy Brown. Who is a work horse and Dawes who is a body and contest type marker and the rest of the team are smalls the chance of the ball going from trav to a foward are slim, bombing the ball into the fowardline in the modern game is just asking for trouble opposition teams thrive on kicking long out of panic. They mop up, run in numbers and hurt you on the rebound.

If Gwilt goes to him again, I'd want Travis to play as deep as possible.

I want Didak to run around behind him every time he takes a mark inside 40, come on the could get away with it once or twice.

We need to clear the forward line first so st.kilda dont flood..

option A Cloke 1 on 1 in the goal square, marks = easy, going for goal = jittery

Dawes floating forward (he is slow remember)

and Leigh Brown at CHF moving up the ground.

option B Dawes at FF in the goal square

L.Brown as the floating forward

Travis leading up the ground having long shots which hes best at

I'd like to see option B tbh.

Clokey missed the EASIEST of goals, but kicks the ones we dont expect from 50 out on a tight angle, He's a frustrating player to watch.
However, he adds ALOT to the team, he's marking is fantastic, and he pushes us inside 50 all the time!

Thats what Dawes needs when he marks it more than 40m out, I dont know if it was Dawes or another player who had a shot from 50 with Harry and Johnno either side of him but still took the shot and missed

Travis would be a better full forward as he is by far our best contested mark inside 50, but Dawes cant take shots from further than 40 so its a problem

He needs to try something else.. like go back and kick it quickly, or have some set plays where someone breaks free and he passes to a better position. Lockyer was the master of this, nearly every game would sneak to a better forward position and take an uncontested mark. I remember Burns doing it too back in the day..

I really hope that Jack Anthony gets a really good pre-season and a chance to get back in form next year. He's such a straight kick, and though he had got a bit of a monkey on his back for a while in 2009, he's got potential to be a really classy, reliable forward, which is something we really lack.. Beams, Maccaffer, Cloke, Dawes.. all really quite shaky in front of goal, esp on set shots.
Hopefully Medhurst comes good again too.. and Brad Dick of course.. Hope Leon Davis is back to his best next year too.

What? Dawes is extremely reliable in front of goal. He's got something like 70% accuracy from set shots that puts him right up there with the best at the club.

THE family of embattled Collingwood star forward Travis Cloke have declared he won't choke in the grand final replay.

Those closest to the Magpies star said he would overcome the goalkicking woes that saw him miss two easy shots on Saturday. Brother Cameron said the powerful forward would not let down the army of Magpie supporters this time around.
"Oh please ... he hasn't choked yet," Cameron Cloke said.
"Plenty of other players have missed goals before. Travis will do what he does every week and hopefully they get a win."
Cameron, a delisted Carlton forward, joined the third Cloke brother, Jason, to watch the MCG nail-biter and praised his younger sibling for his demeanour after the agonising draw.
"He was all right, he kept it pretty low-key," he said.
Cloke's aunt, Yvonne Cain, also backed her nephew.
"It's been hard for Trav but I have faith in him," Mrs Cain said.
"He's such an inspiration, a good kid."
But it was a message from Cloke's quadriplegic cousin yesterday that was most likely to lift the Magpie before the big game.
Luke Cain, a Paralympic shooter, credited Cloke for supporting him since a football accident left him wheelchair-bound 11 years ago.
"I am inspired by him and the entire Cloke family," Luke said.
"I sent him a text wishing him well before the game.
"I don't think he did too much wrong on the weekend.
"It was just unlucky they didn't come away with a win.
"But it's something they will always remember."
Cain broke his back in a 1999 football match but has fought back to become one of Australia's most promising Paralympic shooters.
He will fly to London today to compete in the IPC Shooting World Cup and will have to watch the grand final replay on the internet.
In a week of drama for the family, Travis' father-manager, David, underwent heart surgery yesterday. He was recovering from the operation last night.

If anything, we should be playing Travis further out so he's not taking shots.

He's a great contested mark so he should be used in the Tarrant mould as the lead up target from kick outs, then use his booming kick to get it in quick to prevent St.Kilda flooding back.

Dawes is a FAR more reliable kick inside 50.

Dawes won't get the ball inside 50 in a game like the one we just played. When considering where you'd like Trav to play it's best to think of it like this. Would you prefer to turn the ball over in your foward 50 or before you get the ball to the 50.
