Importance of winning close games is huge. In 2004 we lost a lot of close ones and that just sucked out the confidence and morale of the team. In 2005 we won more close games than we lost.

Last year we won 7 games that were decided by 10 points or less. Considering we won 17 games last year, had we lost those 7 games we wouldn't have made the finals. Lose only 4 more out of those 7 and we don't make the 8.

What I am trying to get to is that in order to make the top 4 we must win these close ones. When you make a great come back and take a lead with 5 minutes left in the game, its imperative that you carry on with it and don't concede 2 of the most stupid goals you are ever going to see. Losing these close games can suck the life out of the side and can really damage the season.

Injuries are part of everyday life in sport and we can't use that as an excuse. We simply must win games when they are there to be won. This game today was very winable and we walked away empty handed. We must win these close games if we are to make the top 4.

I take it you weren't impressed with Heritage Round?

I must admit to having a sentimental tear in my eye today as we paid tribute to the 1994-96 third quarter fadeout.

:D

Your comments are valid Stiffy - on the other hand, the game was only "close" because we didn't chuck in the towel at 3 quarter time. The "glass half full" version is that we gave ourselves a shot despite 3 quarters of average football. Efforts like that will get you an extra win or two (or save percentage) over a season. It's going to happen - that we have bad days and put ourselves in a losing position. At least our response to that situation was right.

Close games are very important, cause you are either really up to win by a close margin or the other way down to lose by a close margin cause then the thought process is 'what might have been'.

As you said Stiffy close game win's can decide whether you make or break over the season.

Oh i don't know about that Stiffy, we won the game & we looked pretty good in those heritage jumpers even though there was a touch too much yellow in them they did sort of grow on you. :)
I was talking about the "heritage round" dyertribe was referring to ;)
