I think Smith is very happy at the Cats. There's no good evidence to suggest otherwise. And not only does he look positive and energetic in training, in the rooms, on his socials, and out there on the field but it also looks like the older players are getting around him - Danger and Stewart, for example - along with some of the young midfield leaders like Holmes.Said it in the pre-season, I've got a feeling we're not his last club.
He's a different personality, more akin to one you'd see in an American sport, or someone like Kyrgios as an Australian example. Admittedly, he's far less of a dickhead than Nick, at least in the public eye.
I feel like you can carry these guys when it's all going well, but when you're not winning, it's just got an ugly look to it.
The drugs stuff and rumour inuendo around that still concerns me, but the bigger concern is his teammates for mine.
It's all speculation, but that's two clubs now where he hasn't been regarded as "popular" - let's put it that way.
If it was just us, or just them, I'd mark it all down to speculation.
When it's coming out of two clubs over the course of years in the rumour mill...there might be something to it unfortunately.
Guys like Holmes, Humphries, Neale, Miers, Dempsey, O'Sullivan, etc feel like Geelong people to me, so hopefully they can drive that next gen that you mention.
If he's got the time for it, I'd hope we're looking into Joel as a consultant, if he's not already.
I'm happy for people to follow the football however they like (you do you) but it's certainly interesting that some people seem to love making something controversial or problematic or grubby or untoward out of nothing much (innuendo, unfounded speculation, gossip, whatever).
I think based on what we can see so far, there's as much evidence to suggest we'll be the club he plays out his career at. Happy to change my mind if something actually happens. And happy for others to jump at shadows if they like.
