Hi guys.

A bit of a long shot but does anyone know the lyrics for all clubs in the VFL/SANFL/WAFL/NEAFL etc etc etc?

I know teams with Red and Blue (Melbourne, Norwood and West Perth,) for instance use the same song and melody (You're a Grand Ol' Flag.)

Cheers guys.

Werribee have the same tune as Adelaide's and Williamstown use grand old flag too (gold and blue instead).

Here's Sandringham's to the tune of Yankee Doodle Dandy (Hawthorn) - Copied for accuracy from the club's website.

We’re the Champions from Sandy,
Mates in everything we do,
We will show them how to play the game,
We’ll win the Premiership too!
YOU BEAUTIES
We’re the team they call the ‘Zebras’,
Steadfast, Loyal, Strong and True,
When it’s rough we just get tough,
We’re never known to falter,
We wear the YELLOW, BLACK AND BLUE

YOU BEAUTIES

Sorry to hijack your thread RedmanWasHere , but would anyone off the top of their head be able to post the lyrics to the second verse of the Saints song? I'm almost positive there is more than just the chorus.

Quite a few SANFL clubs had different songs previously, but for one reason or another have shifted to copies of songs used by AFL clubs. A few that are different:

Norwood does have the same song, but with a second verse:

Oh the team played fine in the year '29
The Redlegs that no-one could lick, lick, lick.
From the crowd's first yell to the final bell
The spirit of old '46, 6, 6
Every heart beats true...

Have always liked North Adelaide's song:
It's a great, great club
And the club we love
We're the good old red and whites.
The mighty Roosters we're called
All for one, and one for all
If we're down we fight, fight, fight.
We like to play as a team
And we play it clean
We're never out of sight.
Be it wet, be it dry, we try, try, try
We're the good old red and whites.

Woodville-West Torrens (tune: The Battle Hymn of the Republic)
We're the mighty Eagles and we always battle through.
The mighty flying Eagles wearing gold, and green, and blue.
Sound the siren, turn us loose and watch the feathers fly
And you'll see what we can do.

We're the mighty flying Eagles,
We're the mighty flying Eagles,
We're the mighty flying Eagles,
In gold, and green, and blue.

South Adelaide (tune: Lily of Laguna, same as Carlton)
We are the blue and white.
We are the grand old blue and white.
We're the team to take the Panthers top
Until we win the flag we will not stop.
Fight on forever
We weaken never in our endeavour
To raise the Panther flag to glory
We are the famous blue and white.

Glenelg - changed to Tigerland as their official song in the '70's I think, due to one line in particular, although they still play "A Tiger For Me" after wins
Now we are the boys of the GFC
Our Gold and Black colours a picture to see.
We're dashing, we're gay,
We're the pride of the Bay.
Our war cry strikes fear in the teams that we play.

A Tiger for me, a Tiger for me
If you're not a Tiger you're no good to me
The Westies are small,
The Norwoods are tall,
And the bonny wee Tigers the pride of them all.

Our Leagues sides, our seconds,
Our thirds, and our colts
Will play for their colours
No matter result.
We'll thrash 'em
We'll slay 'em.
They're down by the sea
And roar out our chorus for each team to see.

A Tiger for me, a Tiger for me
If you're not a Tiger you're no good to me
The Westies are small,
The Norwoods are tall
And the bonny wee Tigers the pride of them all.

All the WAFL club songs (And Source of tune)

Claremont (We're From Tigerland)

Oh! We're from Tigerland
A fighting fury, we're from Tigerland
In any weather you will see us with a grin
Risking head and shin
If we're behind then never mind
We'll fight and fight and win
For we're from Tigerland
We never weaken 'til the final siren's gone
Like the Tigers of old, we're strong and we're bold
For we're the Tigers, the old gold and blues
We're from Tigerland

Perth (United States Marine Corps)

From the playing fields of rival clubs
to our home in Lathlain Park,
on the West Australian Football fields
we have carved a magic mark.
We are called the mighty Demons
and we're feared by one and all,
and the more they try to conquer us,
the harder still they fall.

We are rough and ruthless Demons,
we're the toughest in the west,
and through thick and thin the Demon boys
will always stand the test.
We are called the mighty Demons,
and we're feared by one and all,
and the more they try to conquer us
the harder still they fall

South Fremantle (We're The Bulldogs)

We are the mighty bulldogs
Always fighting on
With victory and flag our goal
With guts and determination
We put the rest to shame
Because our fighting spirit wins the game.

We're the bulldogs (yes we are)
And we're the greatest (yes we are)
The mighty red 'v' which stands for victory
The rough tough bulldogs (yes we are)
South Fremantle (yes we are)
The southerners for ever more

Down by the port of Fremantle
We hit them really hard
With true grit and courage we win
So come on Souths let's show them
How to play the game to win
South Fremantle for ever more

We're the bulldogs (yes we are)
And we're the greatest (yes we are)
The mighty red 'v' which stands for victory
The rough tough bulldogs (yes we are)
South Fremantle (yes we are)
The southerners for ever more.

Subiaco (Glory Glory Subiaco) Note- Also the best song (and team) in the league.

Subiaco players know the meaning of success
Dedication is the way to fight for happiness.
We're the mighty fighting Lions
We'll grind ‘em in the ground
To the premiership we’re bound!

Glory, glory Subiaco
Glory, glory Subiaco
Glory, glory Subiaco
The team is striving on!

Glory, glory Subiaco
Glory, glory Subiaco
Glory, glory Subiaco
The team is striving on!

Swan Districts (Babyface)

We’re all right,
We are the Mighty Fighting Black and Whites
There’s not another team to match our pace,
Take our place

The Swans boys are jumping
We sure have started something
Here we come

Our banners fly on high to show that we have won
We play with all our might
Because we’re full of fight
We’re the famous
Black and Whites

West Perth (Grand Old Flag)

It's a grand old flag it's a high flying flag,
It's the emblem for me and for you,
It's the emblem of the team we love,
The team of the red and the blue,

Every heart beats true for the red and the blue,
And we sing this song to you,
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
Keep your eye on the red and the blue

VFL-AFL Original Club song lyrics - taken from a 1976 Lou Richards football "book" called Lou's Footy Guide For The Girls

I've highlighted the lines that differ from today's versions. It'd be interesting to know if these were errors in the book or if that was how they were sung back then.

The second verse in the Melbourne song has been around for ages but I've never heard it actually used (Norwood fans could set me straight but I'd imagine it's the same with their 2nd verse). The second verse in Geelong's song was news to me though!

Redman, if you mean VFA-VFL, feel free to write VFA-VFL!

Any chance Ken Gannon is reading this? Yet another example of why the VFA name should never have been changed to the VFL

Cue the confusion...
:p

I'll just have a tune up here..
my . dog . has . fleas...

I'm a lion thru and thru
in my Gold and Red and Blue
and we'll fight until we get right to the top
Games at home and games away,
any time or any day
we will GOAL GOAL GOAL until we drop

OOOH
Come on Fitzroy
Come on Fitzroy
you can do it
You can do it
clear the ball
when the final siren sounds
we will cheer around the ground
for FITZROY the greatest team of all

Through all the stress and tension,
i'd might just like to mention
that the lions roar makes me just what I am.
I'm a Gold and Red and Blue,
yes i'm a lion through and through
and a proud and dedicated Fitzroy fan

OOOH
Come on Fitzroy
Come on Fitzroy
you can do it
You can do it
clear the ball
when the final siren sounds
we will cheer around the ground
for FITZROY the greatest team of all

So believe me when I say
that they will get that right one day,
and they'll do it because I believe they can...
In my heart and in my dream
there is only just one team,
and that is why I am a loyal Fitzroy fan

OOOH
Come on Fitzroy
Come on Fitzroy
you can do it
You can do it
clear the ball
when the final siren sounds
we will cheer around the ground
for FITZROY the greatest team of all

Words are based on my copy of the songs so it may not be 100% accurate

CASEY SCORPIONS VFL (Glory Glory Hallelujah)

We're The Casey Scorpions, We play with heart and pride
We've forged a great tradition and we'll never be denied
We play it tough we play to win we are the greatest side
And We'll bring the flag back home

We're Springvale of old, we wear the Red White and Blue
Our faith is in each other that's what always sees us through
Don't you ever write us off no matter what we do
Cause we'll bring the flag back home

Casey Scorpions forever
Like brothers, we will stick together
We're never beaten, no not ever
And we'll bring the flag back home
[REPEAT, then repeat last line]

COBURG (California Here I Come)

We're the Coburg boys you know
All our coaches tell us so
We'll kill 'em, we'll thrill 'em, tear 'em in two
We're flyers, we're (Drivers/Triers), we're the boys in Red and Blue

And when we reach that final four
Then we'll kick those goal galore
Then you'll hear those Lions roar
Oh yes Coburg will be there

FRANKSTON

Woah The Frankston boys are happy, The Frankston boys are we
The Frankston boys are happy, we're bound for victory
We love to win for Frankston, our password (buzzword?) is attack
As the Dolphins fight for victory for the Red White and Black

So Join in the Chorus, and sing it one and all
So join in the chorus, for Frankston's on the ball
Look out for Frankston, we're really on the way
With victory after victory we'll lead the VFL

WILLIAMSTOWN

We are the boys from Williamstown, we play beside the sea
All for one and one for all, we strive for victory
There's not a game that we can't win, together we stand tall
The siren sounds, we stand our ground, there's seagulls one and all

Stand and Deliver, we'll fight and not give in
We want it bad so every lad will push until we win
Seagulls show the courage, we rally to the call
We are the boys from Williamstown, we're Seagulls Blue and Gold
[REPEAT]

"We're the Bulldogs" is the theme song of the South Fremantle Football Club.

We are the mighty bulldogs
Always fighting on
With victory and flag our goal
With guts and determination
We put the rest to shame
Because our fighting spirit wins the game.
We're the bulldogs (yes we are)
And we're the greatest (yes we are)
The mighty red 'v' which stands for victory
The rough tough bulldogs (yes we are)
South Fremantle (yes we are)
The southerners for ever more
Down by the port of Fremantle
We hit them really hard
With true grit and courage we win
So come on Souths let's show them
How to play the game to win
South Fremantle for ever more
We're the bulldogs (yes we are)
And we're the greatest (yes we are)
The mighty red 'v' which stands for victory
The rough tough bulldogs (yes we are)
South Fremantle (yes we are)
The southerners for ever more.

So did Norwood look at the song, realise that by sheer coincidence they also played fine in a year ending with 9, and had a spirit in a year ending with 6, or did they do it first and Melbourne copied it?

To answer my own question, it appears that Keith Truscott created the second verse for Melbourne (possibly for a laugh?) and then it was adopted after his death. This would probably mean Norwood copied it later.

The Same Old Essendon we used to be,
The same old Essendon we are you see
At the end of the season, that premiership flag,
The same Old Essendon will have it in the bag
For the Same Old Essendon are we.

From what I can find this became popular in the late 1880s, early 1890s when Essendon moved from playing in the City of Essendon (at Flemington Hill, Ascot Vale) to East Melbourne Cricket Ground.
It is the reason they were known as the Same Olds around this time.

Glenelg - changed to Tigerland as their official song in the '70's I think, due to one line in particular, although they still play "A Tiger For Me" after wins

I'm pretty sure they changed to Tigerland a bit later on (90's, possibly early 2000's), from recent game's I've watched I don't think they still play 'Tiger for Me'

Swan Districts (Babyface)

We’re all right,
We are the Mighty Fighting Black and Whites
There’s not another team to match our pace,
Take our place

The Swans boys are jumping
We sure have started something
Here we come

Our banners fly on high to show that we have won
We play with all our might
Because we’re full of fight
We’re the famous
Black and Whites

There is actually a longer version of the song with a chorus "Black and whites, we're the black and whites"

I'm not sure whether a club song to the tune of 'Babyface' (ie - Swan Districts above) is terrific or lame. I'm leaning towards great, because it would be awesome to belt that out after a good win (and, top be honest, all club songs sound pretty feeble out of a game situation).

A couple of other historicals - Waverley used the Collingwood song with the last verse being 'Hear the barrackers are shouting, come on, don't look back, For the premiership's a cakewalk, for the mighty Red and Black'.

I believe St Kilda originally used 'I do like to be beside the Seaside'.
