Whos a good football manager? Is there anyone you want, or anyone you think, who is good?
The only name that ever get dropped around here seems to be Balme, he's 70 now though - not sure how much he has left in the tank. The other Lloyd at Geelong, Simon seems to be highly spoken of. I think several of the ex coaches would be okay as well.

Balme can never and will never come to Carlton

Its hard to believe that there would be much difference in capacity between Lloyd at Geelong and Lloyd at Carlton.

Maybe one has a more mature list and therefore winning more games. Might be the only difference?

Seriously?
You don't think think there's a difference in capacity between them because they're brothers?
Seriously?

What about their goal kicking capacity? Is that the same because they're brothers?

They are not like David and Stephen kernahan.
Whether someone is a good football manager can't solely be judged by wins/losses because if it was Lloyd would now be officially as good as Neil Balme.

My point, as always, is that people on here have no idea of whether someone off field is good at their job, however people make out like they do as part of a collective pile on.

I have no idea of how good Brad Lloyd is at his job but it wouldn't surprise me if he has similar capabilities as his brother.

Because of Southby in 73? Fifty years is long enough to let that one slide.

Simon has a lot of different experience and worked under some quality people in his career to date. Brad just worked at Freo before us.

We've got serious problems with our football department, to the point that we've commissioned an external review. We made no changes to our assistant coaches last off-season, and one has gone half way through this year.

If you want to compare us to Geelong, then the Cats of 2006 would be more fitting, when they reviewed their football department and brought in Balme at the end of it.

Have no idea tbh - except I know it is a very important function along with coach to make sure football business stays on track. they have to be senior enough and experienced enough to challenge coach when required.

But does any of it really matter? Are people really going to live and die by what ever happens.

It's a game played by grown men with various levels of aggression towards a piece of Pig skin and each other.

Each season comes and goes as surely as the sun rises in the morning. Yet nothing ever changes.

Passionate people come and go from Presidents past players and Supporters and everything in between. Some win some lose.

Every year...

You are absolutely correct - none of it 'really' matters - except the question why has this Club been so bad at doing the ordinary for so long...apart from that it is just a game and entertainment something to watch and enjoy as a distraction.Being locked up and away from your friends and loved ones tends to focus too much attention on the too small though

From all accounts we were not in a position to make changes to our assistant coaches this year due to the reduction in the soft cap.

The review wasn't called specifically to look at the football department but all facets of our football operations both on and off the field. If Lloyd was the sole issue he would surely just have been replaced and there would be no need for a review.

Genuine question here. Do you have actual knowledge of Lloyd's ability/lack therefore of? More than happy for someone who has actually knowledge of his performance to enlighten us.

Does anybody have any hope that the club will be forthright in letting members know what the findings of the review are?
Or will they just be quiet and let it all leak out through the media?

The club doesn't need the approval of members and supporters as to what they implement from the review

By 1 August the club was required to notify the assistant coaches who are not going to be retained for 2022. Any news on which coaches have been dropped?

Collingwood didn't seem to have an issue making the Do Better Report public, did they?
Football Clubs are run for the members, and as such need to be transparent with these things

Clubs arent run for the members, they exist as a brand within an entity. You have a choice to be a member or not

They had to do that to save what little face they had left after that debacle.

Balme is old and transitioning to retirement and the problem with any of the ex coaches is, it would be their first job, so full training wheels.

Its an area where, not many people seem to know who’s good, people are only saying Lloyd is no good because we are underachieving by probably 2 wins.

It will be interesting what this review puts out.

The do better report was swept under the carpet for a long time, with no intention of it getting out, until it did, then they made it public. Not really a good example.

No, there was a soft cap amnesty on sacking coaches for last year, we could have cleared them all out if we wanted to. Teague wanted to keep them. Lloyd should have over-ruled because aside from there being clear issues last year, you need new blood and ideas, or you stagnate. Especially with a rookie senior coach.

The 'lack of ability' is in the results. Our Football Department (which includes all facets of football operations, that's what it is) is dysfunctional
to the point of us commissioning an external review. Lloyd is in charge of all of it.

Have you thought that the assistants weren't an issue and it is gameplan related?

The game plan is certainly an issue.
But not bringing in any new assistants was also a very clear mistake.
Keeping Barker into his 11th year at the club was inexplicable, and that's not a hindsight call.

And again, the buck ultimately stops with Lloyd.
