Saw that a couple of season long clubbies players ran around in the 2s surprise loss on the weekend at Ormond while the clubbies marched through to the prelim. Must be mixed feelings to get rewarded with the call up during clubbies finals..
What alot of crap that is

Looking ominous, BB. They're 2 games clear in 9th with Werribee one of their 3 remaining games. Fate will be sealed if they don't pinch a win at the high school on Saturday.

Shuffler - that's a load of bullsh!t. Just had a look at the list online and there was only 1 questionable inclusion that played Reserves for Ormond on the weekend. David Dahan. Played 10 games in the Clubbies then conveniently given a promotion the 1st week of finals. Hardly think that's going to make a huge difference. Looks to be more a case of having players back rather than players dropping back. You only have to look at the player list from the first final to see everyone has played the majority of their footy in the Clubbies. Seems to me you're already trying to make excuses....
Glad to see you've done some research UM & you are totally correct. The fact of the matter is that you cant just drop blokes back from the 2's to play in Clubbies finals. You must have played a minimum of 4 games in the Clubbies & no more than 8 games above to qualify for Clubbies finals. It comes down to manageing an overall list to maximise the opportunities for players at both levels. We are fortunate to have a number of players that have returned from overseas in the past few eeks that played at the start of the year. Luck or good management. You be the judge.

No excuses needed down at Central as we are not playing this week.

As Beamsy pointed out, it comes down to a choice on whether you pick your 2's or your Clubbies first. Ormond have clearly picked their best clubbies side - which is fine - no problems with that. Just saying it must be mixed feelings for the guys who played twos on the weekend.

Good list management and qualification awareness is the key to success in the lower grades.

Speaking of footy on the net. Has anyone seen the latest Hawthorn Spartans offering on YouTube? They're pulling out the big guns for guest appearances. Good looking bloke too.

Just had a quick look and it was an impressive effort this week. They selected the better looking Mazenod players to feature which was a wise move and is sure to attract the female audience.

..and so Hawthorn held off Ormond to set up the rematch.

Reports from the match were that the sausage rolls weren't in the pie warmer long enough and left an ordinary after taste.

Can anyone else provide more info (about the sausage rolls or even the match)??

Pop down to the McKinnon pub and you might fnid a few sore heads winding down their season, MS. They should be able to give you an account of what happened. Focus down at EE Gun will be staying alive in C. Huge game this weekend against Old Essendon.

I'll be down to have a look at the GF on Sunday. I'm expecting you to introduce yourself to the bloke in the Hampton Rovers jacket, MS.

Will do. I may even give you a wave from the far wing!

Awfully quiet on here considering it's Grand Final week. Will the confines of Rathmines Road Reserve be the ultimate undoing of a side UM thought had their noses in front of the Shuffler's lads? Or can they turn the tables on the 'Nodders and clog up YouTube with video after video of their premiership celebrations? As stubborn as I am, the boys from Central Reserve have done enough to sway me. As previously stated, it's their's to lose.

According to the VAFA website we won't get to find out who takes Charlie home until the votes are published on the website several days after the event. Or have they given the flick to Club XVIII B&F awards for 2011?

It is probably a good thing that the medal isn't to be presented until a few days after the grand final. It may have proved a distraction for Matty Wilkins to have to play with a medal around his neck on Sunday.

As for the boys from down at Central Reserve, we are just deep in preparation for Sunday. No mum slurs or coach sackings to be seen here.. Just a side very excited to be going to the big dance.

Even having to purchase a new alarm clock for the military-esque start time was done without resentment, as Grand Final's don't come around often.

You are right UM. Very quiet for GF week. I can assure you & the Shuffler that Wilkins will be able to play without the distraction of a B&F medal hanging around his neck. The only way this would happen, would be if he mugs Metzy in the carpark before the game. I will be down this Sunday to watch the game. Still undecided as to who i will support. Just there to see a good hard contest & help Metzy carry his medals home!

..So the mid season Arizona trips paid off and we held off a valiant Hawthorn. The celebrations were long and hard and there will be a few rusty boys making their first appearances back at work over the next couple of days.

Missed you on Sunday UM. Didn't see a Hampton Rovers jacket winding its way through the crowd, however there were a fair few there given the game was played at dawn on a Sunday.

Metz undoubtedly deserved his medals. While I think he was fairly well held the times he played us, he played a few rippers against the other sides from what I hear.

With the now bourbon tasting premiership cup now locked away in the trophy cabinet (it was lost for several hours on Monday morning) it is now time to plan the premiership defense. It may have to start with a fairly long detox though..

As expected, Mazenod took the chockies. well deserved because they were the strongest club all year. In the end footy smarts were the difference, the soccer club put up a good effort & have achieved some respect in their first season. I spoke with one of the Hawthorn officials after the game & there was an heir of smugness & certainty that they will raise the flag next year based on this yeras results. Apart from Mazenod there were 4 other teams that were capable of beating eachother on any given day so i suspect that the souva smokers will find it harder to make the big dance next yera than they think. Time will tell.

Well done to the Nodders on their winning performance on the weekend. Hopefully (but not likely) the seniors can have the same success in a couple of weeks time.
In regards to the smugness of the Hawthorn players, I would say I thought they totally outplayed us in 2nd half but couldn't put it on the scoreboard - where it counts. So, why wouldn't you be confident for next year. I would say that there a couple of guys in that side that would surely make an impression for their seniors in D3.

Kudos to Mazenod. Hawthorn broke down across half forward. Made some very poor decisions moving the footy proving their still learning the game. As suggested, they have a right to be confident about next season as they will have learned a bit in their first season playing the oval shaped ball.
gn - you're obviously not aware of the fact that the Club XVIII side is a separate entity to the D3 teams. They're share the rooms, ground and jumper, but that's where it ends. The Clubbies run their own canteen, have their own sponsors and pretty much run the side as a club within a club. My understanding is they also support the club functions as well. Similar to what the Old Scotch boys did with Richmond Central except it's not a bunch of spoilt brats sulking about where they play. Instead it's a bunch of soccer mates that formed a 'real football' team and needed somewhere to call home. Hawthorn happily obliged.

Congrats also to Metzy on receiving the B&F award as well as the goalkicking.

As for you Shuffler, stop bullsh!tting about being part of the team/club. Your "teammates" don't know you are and I was standing behind the Mazenod goals and bench on the weekend. Hard to miss the green & gold in a sea of blue, white & black.

Not sure which 'teammates' you were speaking to. I played on the far wing all day and I'd say most of the boys know who I am..

Yet again UM you are correct on all counts. I had no problem in finding you!

Ease up boys!

I can assure you the Shuffler played and was unlucky not to have Norm Nugent call his name twice after the game. He is 100% one of the boys
