Coach from Left Field???

Is there a potential coach that has the perfect combination of dour battler and rugged defender combined with an air of mediocrity?
If he hates the media this could also be a plus so long as he's ex North. The longer he's been away from the playing field the better.

Nah get Bucks.

Leigh Tudor could be a bit of a smokey, he was highly rated at Geelong and is now an assistant at StKilda.

Would be a smokey & I do have time for him. Highly rated and success does seem to follow him.... A few St Kilda mates attribute some/much of their improvement directly to him. :thumbsu:

Having said that... it would be hard to embrace the man who in the 94 prelim floated that ball over Martyn's head into the arms of Ablett. ;)

I was sitting very close and the image is etched into my memory. The look on Micky's face, the feeling of impending doom as Ablett kicked the ball. I will never forget it. Everytime I hear his name I think of the game... :(

Gerald/Gerard Fitzgerald. I seriously think he would be a great coach.

I don't know how results would translate from VFL to AFL level due to different styles of game and different types of list and match-day management, but on face value he has fantastic credentials over the last 10 or so years at VFL level, and would have an excellent knowledge of a solid part of our list already.

Hearing him address his players, he is also super-impressive and composed, and clear with instructions. Chuck an old overcoat on him and he'd remind me of a certain (legendary) former North coach in the respect player and coach have for eachother.

I was going to post Gerard's name for the thread, anticipating he would not have been mentioned, but you've beaten me to it, and I'm surprsed his name doesn't come up when AFL jobs become available. Alternatively it may be thought that the club can retain his same level of input (with the North Ballarat element of our list), while procuring another good footy brain to be the match day coach and the face of the club, and not lose either way.

That is what I love about him. His instructions are so clear, and he enver loses it. I think he would be pretty good.

His game plan has great structure, the players know exactly what he expects of them and they respect him. He also has an uncanny knack of getting the opposition to play the game on his terms.
