Langer has quit. Good Ashes result but I’m not of the belief he was well liked by his players.

So CA australia need another day to come up with a decision...they do not have the courage to say yes or no

useless pricks
I think JL should just pull the pin.
CA obviously don't want him otherwise a deal would've been done by now.

Must be hard getting up everyday and getting attacked by Conn and Co.

He'll easily get picked up by an IPL franchise and a BBL side.
Just take the easy money.

only logical result and why it got to the board meeting is beyond me. not from CA's perspective, they need do things through a formal route which included the board meeting, but Langer seemingly not reading the situation is insane to me.

still, ends up being a better result for langer. gets to walk out a hero in the eyes of some and will probably be a contender to be re-hired in a few years time, contrast that to Lehmann who stayed on too long

Good news I feel. Obviously wasn't the worst but maybe not the best style of coaching given the lack of love he seems to have from players. Some players like that style but that's the difference between international and club, you can't just avoid a coach whose style you don't like by going elsewhere.

As much as this is probably the right result in many ways given the dressing room clearly isn’t a fan, this has been ****ing ridiculously messy.

And after that, he was asked to change how he did things.

He did what they asked, and have since won a World Cup and was one wicket away from a series whitewash.

Surely that's a positive?
see what I’ve found most ridiculous of the langer criticisms from the players was that he was way too involved until he eventually changed how he did things mid year, and then he shouldn’t claim credit for the WC and ashes because he took a step back and wasn’t as involved. they can’t have it both ways

Imagine we had toured England for the Covid Ashes. It would have been a painful experience with the in-bubble disagreements overseas.

Captain was never gonna lose in this one. He's far more valuable to CA than the coach.

But they've thrown themselves into the fire and they'll get the blowtorch applied if they don't put up some good performances in the subcontinent and retain the ashes both in England and Australia.

Langer comes across as a very intense guy and typically these types of coaches have short tenures. I'm thinking Lyon (AFL), Cheika (rugby union), Maguire (rugby league) types. Obviously there are exceptions.

He must be high on England's hit list and if that comes to fruition it will really add some spice to 2023. It'll also be a great chapter in the never ending coaching v cattle debate.

Reminds me way too much of a football coach. It was what we needed when the saga hit but not now. The writing was on the wall when they stripped his responsibilities back

Cummins will probably be retired by the time the WA borders open and Australia play there again.

They way Cricket Australia have scheduled games in WA for the past few years wouldn't suprise me

But who are we going to blame when we start losing??

Very happy with the decision personally. Now sign Bayliss for 4 years
and here comes the NSW conspiracy

Bayliss should not get picked because it will tarnish Cummins image as a backstabber and boys club image

would rather Gillispie or punter ....and bayliss is too old plus he coached the enemy f**k him

I’d be happy with any of them although Punter won’t do it for family reasons. Whoever is less likely to make terrible selections I’m happy with.

Back to the scorchers? To another national team coaching position?

Even though I don’t rate Langer he’s be perfect for England right now

They should've just told Langer you're contract isn't getting extended when they had that intervention sh*t. It would've avoided all this drama, Langer gets certainty on his future, players get certainty with coaching setup and CA avoid negative publicity. It's clear as day once Langer had a reduced role, the team has performed much better. The players were probably alluded to the finality of Langer finishing up once his contract ended, hence their lack of support for him.

CA have spectacularly mishandled it as usual.

(replying to some posts from the other day)

the whispers over the last few days is that Langer would resign (ie not do the Pakistan tour) if he didn't get a contract extension he wants, which is what we clearly have just seen, so I don't think we can say with certainly that this (the bit in bold) would have worked last year. As for the bit in red, if CA had actually successfully done the bit in the bold, do you think the legion of ex-players in the media would have stayed quiet on the matter? Particularly after the WC and Ashes?

CA ended up moving him to the sidelines for successful results without really provoking the legion of ex-players prior to the WC and Ashes. That Langer didn't want to go quietly into the night means that the process isn't a total success but that wasn't in CA's control. I reckon for what was a very tricky issue, CA would be fairly happy with how it went. The players and CA will take some heat now from the Haydens, Pontings and Gilchrists, but that would have happened if they fired him last year too. That was unavoidable unless they lost the Ashes 3-1

Players have hated him for a while, by the sounds of things he was a bit unstable and miserable to be around when he went on massive mood swings over nothing.

People bring up the ashes but it’s not like we wouldn’t have won them with any other coach, England brought over a side with 1 test level batsmen ffs.
