I think irrespective of anyone's thoughts on Langer as person or his coaching style, he should have been able to walk away with his head held high along with some respect and dignity.
Came in at our lowest ebb and did exactly as was asked of him. Turn the culture around, instill discipline and gain back some respect from a nation who had turned it's back. A mammoth task. But, he did it.
Then while obtaining that first goal, he ended up alienating his players and staff (and lost a series he never should have), he was told to sort that out. This saga played out in cloak and dagger style in highly embarrassing, highly public and excoriating fashion. But, he did it.
Then when he was told to get results on field. He did it.
Won a T20WC when literally no one expected us to, and destroyed (albeit a very poor) England 4-0, taking us back to #1 in the Test rankings.
Perhaps he had run his course as coach after 4 years, but he did an amazing job under extremely challenging circumstances and dedicated his whole being to the task.
Like Tim Paine, who was also cast aside by this organisation ignominiously, he should have gone out on top. While he's probably not blameless here, I think it's fair to say that CA are a shambles. A clown car of an organisation.
It just didn't need to play out this way. So embarrassing. So inept.
Well done to Justin Langer. A polarising figure and one who frustrated me on occasion, but ultimately someone who deserves the utmost respect of the cricket public.
