I personally think JL is too invested in the mystique of the Baggy Green to coach England.

Whats happened to him may change things. And he needs a job.

But mentally it would be a big ask as a proud Australian to go over and coach the old enemy in England
Getting paid a shitload of Pounds would probably soften the blow.
No one thought Rod Marsh would head up their Academy.

JL could pick up a job in the IPL and BBL no problems.
It's being said the Poms will split their coaching into white and red ball so this might appeal to him also.

He might just want to have a rest for 6 months and consider his options.

Thanks Mickey for the advice can you let us know who at Derbyshire hasn't done their homework yet.
The funny thing about this is that the person who actually pushed for the bans is the still team manager Gavin Dovey who was the guy that lost it at the CA social media guy last year

Mitch Johnson has taken aim at Pat Cummins.

Johnno is going to regret that statement.

Its all well and good to be emotional over it. It may be to stay relevant and keep an newspaper article.

But does anyone remember mickey arthur and johnnos role in that i don't think he should be throwing stones and burning bridges.

Dovey was intergral in that infamous press conference Smudge did at cape town and how to approach it.

Its amazing how he kept his job after sandpaper gate really.

Or as coach against India here 2ce.

Two Ashes wins here against appalling Pom teams. A T20 WC that he, from all accounts had little to do with.

Had his four years of flag waving. Contracts are not renewed all the time. He has spat the dummy with his famed ill temper and lack of grace. He is not bigger than the game.

Move on.
Once again Uncle, your dislike/hatred of certain people clouds your judgement.
From my reckoning, Langer coached two test series overseas.
The first one against Pakistan without Smith and /Warnrer which we lost 1 nil which most people after Sandgate thought was reasonable.

We then retained/drew the Ashes away which was our best result over there in ages.
But yet you keep bagging his record.

So when we lose, it's the coaches fault but when we win, it's because of the players or the opposition is terrible.
You can't have it both ways.

He leaves the position with as T20 WC holders and top ranking test side.

IMO, Langer had to go after he has lost his players.
But the board either had to back him in long term or just tell him his time was up.
Not offer an insulting 6 months extension.

Anyone potshotting Cummins is off the mark, it’s the board who deserve any criticism for the way this was handled.

And it’s hardly a NSW vs WA issue for any reasonable person. In fact I think most WA fans are okay with Langer stepping down, we just feel that he hasn’t been allowed a very dignified exit. For a great of the game from our part of the world, that stings more than a little.
We don't know what exactly has been said behind the scenes, but it seems impossible for me to believe that Langer and his management could have been left with any impression that a lengthy contract extension was a reasonable possibility. If CA has actually left clues that a long term extension was on the cards then it's a different thing, but if he just didn't want to read the writing on the wall, then he played his own part in not having a dignified exit.

Cummins is a genuine snake in the grass. I don’t see how his teammates who aren’t in the NSW sandpaper gang(smith, khwaja, starc, Hazelwood, Lyon, Warner) could trust him to be honest.

I think it says a lot about his character, and indeed the character of he and his mates is the reason Langer got the job in the first place after they disgraced the country.

I’ve got zero respect for him and the way he has handled this, as for the board, well their ineptitude created this environment. But their ineptitude also created the environment for sandpaper gate.
What did you want Cummins to do?

He works with this guy on a day to day basis, if he doesn't think he should be head coach he has every right to that opinion.

WA fans and crying about NSW is one of the most tiring things to read as an Australian cricket fan.

The idea that Cummins and the team need to endorse Langer is rubbish, they are supposed to advocate for an extension of a coach that they don’t want?

Langer has copped plenty of criticism (rightly or wrongly) since becoming head coach, now he’s been sacked they are talking as if he’s one of the greatest coaches of all time.

It is surely worth noting that unless you are in the Locker room ever day, seeing the interactions up close how can you possibly know whether the players are right or wrong in this instance.

“He had plenty of public opportunities to endorse an extension for Langer. So when he let it through to the keeper every time, it became pretty obvious he didn’t want it to happen.
This is a weird statement from Johnson.

If Cummins doesn't believe he is the right man for the job (a position he is more than entitled to hold) why would he publicly endorse him?

To do so would be completely duplicitous and far worse than politely declining to make much of a comment, which is the line he pretty much took.

How can a captain publicly say that want a change for a contracted coach? Do you seriously think that's a good idea? Are u all there?

Of course i am and of course he can.
Its called being honest and owning it.
Maybe i expect more from leaders than you do but i expect them to be honest (ie not lie) and own their views (good or bad) and drive a culture of honesty. How can you expect anyone beneath you to do that if you dont?
Cummins knew when he went to that presser that he was going to be asked about the issue.
And he has an opinion (i dont believe for a second he has no view on it and neither does anyone else) ie he either would like to keep the coach or he wouldnt..his only two options were to say yes i hope this gets sorted and he gets retained quickly (if he wanted him to stay) or i would prefer a change to a new voice in charge but as our leader i will work for the success of the team with whatever coach they give me (if he wanted langer gone).
Those were the only two honest things he could have said. If he wasnt prepared to do either he should not have gone to the presser in the first place (which he could have done).
Instead he not only lied (by saying he had no opinion) but he insulted the country because he knew that everyone else knew what he was saying was a lie.
Thats what politicians do when you see them on a show and they evade a question 6 times without ever answering it honestly.
We rightly crack it when they do it but you want to excuse Cummins doing the same thing because hes good at sport? Are you serious? Unless you plan on never criticising a pollie again thats hypocritical.
Now CA should have sorted this issue out months ago which would have meant Cummins never would have been asked about it at a presser but once it got to that stage he either should have been honest or not turned up if he was going to lie. Taking the third option shows he only cares about his own comfortability not values.
I honestly was never a fan of mitch johnson on field for a variety of reasons but he has got it absolutely right today-Cummins has utterly failed as a leader on this one and if he was fair dinkum Pat should apologise or step aside.

Yep dont expect mitch will be welcomed back any time soon into the inner sanctum.

His impulsive comment about cummins someone he has won a world cup with will be something he will regret in time.

I am sure Mitch remembers Homework-gate and the Mickey Arthur era he spoke about it on the howie games podcast and how he couldn't wait to see back of him.

Meh...

What will probably happen is we appoint bayliss (outside chance Gillespie) and we'll win in Australia against almost all teams, struggle in the subcontinent, should at least retain ashes 2023.

Meanwhile, England will appoint langer (most likely) and seam bowl their way to some half decent series wins in England but find themselves completely inept away from home.

(I.e. I doubt a whole lot will change on field)

Lehmann's nonchalant approach was great... Until Cape town.

Langer's new age (barefoot healing circles) intense approach was ridiculous... Until the T20 world cup.

Over in England Andy Flower was all the rage... Until Mitchell Johnson pulled 2013/14 out if his ass.

Cricket Australia's handling has been terrible, but what else is new there.

If langer ends up coaching england and bayliss ends up coaching us it will show how laughably inept both CA and ECB are. It probably will happen though.

It's like half of the that golden generation went to the Neil Harvey finishing school for old cricketers.

They've certainly graduated with flying colours haven't they!?! They've got there about 30 years before Harvey achieved grumply old man status.

Johnson is usually one of the more level headed too.

Mark Taylor also said today that the players need to be careful not to create a divide between the older players Ponting, Waugh and himself are not happy. Be careful not to create a divide.

With all due respect to those greats, this has nothing to ****ing do with you. You have no right to expect the players to endorse Langer as coach just because he is an old mate of you guys.

Jason Gillespie was in talks for it in 2015 but they decided to appoint Trevor Bayliss instead. I want us to give Gillespie the job because he's proven himself as a successful coach and widely considered as one of the game's good guys. If Lehmann was too laid back and Langer is too intense, Gillespie seems the perfect middle ground.

What success has Gillespie had in Australia though as a coach.

I’d actually like two coaches. A test/ODI coach and a separate one for t20. Bayliss probably as the test/odi one and someone else. Not sure if Ponting will do it but he’s be perfect for t20

I agree Cummins would have had an opinion.

But I can't think of a single instance in Australian sport where a player has advocated for the removal of their coach. If it's happened before it would be very rare.

Really whilst this process was going on, CA should have shut down all player press conferences for a week or so until the situation was resolved. Cummins probably should have been smart enough to suggest this to CA.

Are you new to following sport?

Nope quite the opposite i just find the cultural road we are heading down as a country disappointing because when people in business, politics and day to day life etc lie we abhor it but when sports stars do the same we look the other way because we love sport. Its disappointing that Cummins behaved that way but the fault is equally on us as a society for being that hypocritical.
