Such a rubbish comment, the current crop of players don't owe anything to you Mark.
Mark really saying the quiet part out loud there.

What success has Gillespie had in Australia though as a coach.

I’d actually like two coaches. A test/ODI coach and a separate one for t20. Bayliss probably as the test/odi one and someone else. Not sure if Ponting will do it but he’s be perfect for t20

I understand Luke that you want bayliss because he is from NSW and I can understand that backing your own but we need what is best for Australian Cricket

The issue for me if Bayliss gets appointed is the stigma of knifing the coach in the back from the faceless few and Cummins will always be there if not already

Gillespie for me a fresh start

We don't know what exactly has been said behind the scenes, but it seems impossible for me to believe that Langer and his management could have been left with any impression that a lengthy contract extension was a reasonable possibility. If CA has actually left clues that a long term extension was on the cards then it's a different thing, but if he just didn't want to read the writing on the wall, then he played his own part in not having a dignified exit.
Don't think you can apportion blame on Langer or his management TBH.
Most people reading all of the stuff in the media would've known he was under the pump.
Perhaps Langer thought his man manager style had improved and his last 6 months results were enough to keep him in the job.

If Langer had been told he wasnn't being renewed, even though he still thought he was the best man for the job, he would have to
take it on the chin.

You don't have insult the person which is what a 6 month offer was.

It's like half of the that golden generation went to the Neil Harvey finishing school for old cricketers.
There's certainly a funny thing going on here where it seems impossible to believe that these golden generation cricketers would tolerate coaching the style of Langer (ie just using the most recent story of the changed training session)

Pretty over the commentary for why yesterday was a 'dark day for CA' being told exclusively by Langer's ex-teammates, tbh.
'Grrrr the new age young soft players are being mean to my friend'

Nope quite the opposite i just find the cultural road we are heading down as a country disappointing because when people in business, politics and day to day life etc lie we abhor it but when sports stars do the same we look the other way because we love sport. Its disappointing that Cummins behaved that way but the fault is equally on us as a society for being that hypocritical.
This reply below nails my thoughts exactly.
Cummins was in a no win scenario. Back Langer and create headlines that the test captain is at odds with Cricket Australia. Don't say anything and get accused of knifing the coach.

As long as the coach doesn’t pick Marsh in a test squad let’s start from there. I have no issue who the coach is. Ideally I’d want Ponting but it’s unrealistic. Bayliss is decent enough

You're right - trashing someone you've just recognised as a hall of famer, dragging the current Test Captain into the imbroglio via inept media management and killing the public goodwill built up off the back of the current side's success over the last few months is an excellent result. Hockley will no doubt be getting some sort of bonus.

Colour me shocked, another mate of Langer's critical of the situation

Think the current playing group (particularly the sandpaper six) are in for a bit of a shock over who's opinion the general public holds in higher esteem.

I'd be surprised if the players and CA are under any other illusion. They're not fools. They'd be well aware that there's a dozen of Langer's team-mates from the golden era who have media jobs, and who view an attack on Langer as an attack on all of them.

Man, the reverence people are having for the coach of a cricket team, and one who by his own admission took a back seat during the sides most recent success, is wild.

I think you might have that the wrong way around, most people just enjoy watching a winning cricket team and we currently have the best bowler and batsman in the world. Do you really think the public will care about the opinion of ex players once the Pakistan tour starts and the team potentially performs well? The opinion of former players didn't seem this heated when someone from outside the inner boys club was sacked (Mickey Arthur), funny that...

Btw where is SK Warne.

He hasn't said anything yet.

Someone send a search party out for warnie normally he comments on these things within 24 hours.

Any defence from Warne is a tacit endorsement of Steve Waugh so that probably won't happen.

Yep, very interesting that he is basically the only former teammate still yet to make a public comment

So you think CA have covered themselves in glory here, I take it?

These are ultimately the same players and organisation who thought they could shrug off organised, on-field cheating, only for the public reaction to give them a reality check.

Going to be a particularly interesting 18 months if the current run of success doesn't continue.

You're missing the point.

Whether you agreed with the decision or not is not the issue.
The way it was handled was terrible.

It's not a case of backing your mate.
Just about everyone in the media has said it has been handled poorly.

Ahh you might be onto something there.
If I was to don my elegant tin foil bonnet I might suggest that CA still sees the Cape Town incident as a consequence of the team culture inherited from the Waugh/Ponting era and is looking to explicitly move away from it.

They certainly should but I don't think they do. In any case, Cummins as captain does more to move away from that culture than whoever the coach is
