Now that all the former players have kicked the boot into the current ones I'm looking forward to some more unhinged Langer stories being leaked.

It’s bound to happen, I reckon there’s some even crazier Langer stuff which hasn’t come out yet

For how great Cummins is as a bowler if hes part of a group to get rid of the coach Id be very worried about him as a captain.
Think thats pretty piss weak for a bloke whos supposed to be a leader. Having a cry because they had to do a tough training session, spare me.

Coaches need to be relaxed and chill lik Ravi Shastri , Langer type coaches are good for under 19 teams.

Australia's next coach should be Ravi Shastri.

Do you honestly think an AFL coach is going to get the sack if they’re consistently winning finals even though the player’s don’t like him you’re delusional if you do.
Coach has a lot more leverage in AFL than international cricket.

CA can't exactly delist or trade Cummins and hope to bring in a like for like replacement.

Also not sure I'd compare us to a consistent finals winning team. We jagged be a be T20 world cup after years of underperforming in that format, which shows how much of a crapshoot T20 can be. Smashing England is nice, but they are in dire straights.

Also the coach in international cricket isn't near as impactful as the coach in the AFL world. That goes for when teams are doing well (Langer now, Lehmann 13/14, Bayliss for England short form etc) as well as well they are doing poorly (Langer in earlier period, Bayliss for England long form, Silverwood).

I'm surprised at the level of support for Langer. A few months ago, there were genuine question marks about his future. Remember articles like this one?

"Right now, he’s presiding over an underperforming team in all formats. Losing to a second-string India on home soil was bad, but getting belted 4-1 by the West Indies and then Bangladesh was equally unimpressive."

It's true we won the Ashes, but at home this was completely expected. I think people are forgetting just how woeful England were, and somehow attributing the win to Langer's coaching brilliance. As for the T20 World Cup win -- the format is such a crapshoot. It was really won through two good wins, in the semi-final and final. Not trying to play down the achievement, but again I'm not sure what Langer's role was.

He should have got the sack 1 year or so into his job but they showed him a bit if respect and managed his behaviour and gave him as the Japanese say .. the desk by the window until the contract ran out.
But then the psycho goes and and drags everyone through the shit by wanting to stay on.
Now he’s saying “ He’s doing the right thing by everyone by resigning.

Did Langer's hands on involvement get scaled back since August with DiVenuto and McDonald taking on more prominent roles?

By all accounts, yes. Which tends to imply the players respond better the less Langer is involved... which is not a great endorsement of his coaching.

T20 WC was a unexpected result as we generally suck but I always thought we'd win Ashes 5-0 or very convincingly so there done nothing that special just yet. Cummins, Starc, Hazlewood and Lyon has been our front line bowling lineup for years now and they have won squat away from home, apart from a couple series in South Africa, we even lost to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka away so let's face it the Australian summer covers up that we are generally still shit.

Pretty much. Proof will be in the pudding so to speak after the sub continent tours. They would want to perform there, at the moment they are all (most) are home condition bullies.

& so much is made of the T20 WC win.. let's face it T20 cricket is just coin flip cricket... again not that Special.

Especially this one where the dew was massive over there

We didn't jag the World Cup - we dominated the whole tournament.

Lost one game, when they ****ed with the side, but belted everyone else.

Helped MASSIVELY by winning the toss in every game after the England disaster.

It's T20 cricket, Pakistan were 5-0 in the group stage and had Australia 5/96 chasing 178 with 8 overs left and abit of lucky slogging come off and Australia make the final lol, imo the reason we went well is because we fielded our big guns, generally we pick a Big Bash all star team.

Did anyone hear Ian Chappell on the radio yesterday? Talk about an angry and irrelevant man.

He said the Australian team doesn't need a coach. Why? Because in his day (and Ian admitted he started playing 60 years ago1!) if you had any issues you'd just discuss them with your colleagues. In his mind all the coach needs to do is ensure the team has enough balls and bats.

He said Langer was an average batsman and average coach who cannot take any credit for the team success in 2021/2022.

He believes Cricket Australia is a useless entity, which is probably a fair assessment.

He said any issues between the players and Langer were solely and wholly on Langer.

To be fair he has a point about not needing a coach. Why do they need coaches at the top level? How much "coaching" do they actually do?

The same applies in the AFL,overloaded with coaches not needed. Skills coach at AFL level is the biggest joke of them all. How do you get drafted if you don’t have the skills?

WHilst it makes sense that a lot of Langer's mates have jumped to his defence - i find it telling every Australian captain from Mark Taylor (former director) to Michael Clarke have ripped Cricket Australia.

Sack him if you want to follow a player clique. Just don't do the pissweak option.

Cummins has just heaped pressure on himself should Australia stall or go backwards
