It’s been widely reported that McDonald and DeVenuto stepped up in the Ashes and t20 WC and that Langer took more of a backseat. Pretty sure a couple of the players also confirmed this.

WHilst it makes sense that a lot of Langer's mates have jumped to his defence - i find it telling every Australian captain from Mark Taylor (former director) to Michael Clarke have ripped Cricket Australia.

Sack him if you want to follow a player clique. Just don't do the pissweak option.

To be fair he has a point about not needing a coach. Why do they need coaches at the top level? How much "coaching" do they actually do?

Fine tuning all that needed in the skills department. Team approach could be set up by captain, IF you got a strong switched on captain , tactically, but for a few decades it been more about coaching which always up for debate for cricket teams. It's hard to find a captain that can do it all so the debate will go on because for every great captain like a Clive Lloyd or Ian Chappell the number of captains that simply fumble their way to trying to do a good job is a much much longer list.
AB became a good captain but if he did not have a coach with him, maybe he would have quit long before the tide turned.

For how great Cummins is as a bowler if hes part of a group to get rid of the coach Id be very worried about him as a captain.
Think thats pretty piss weak for a bloke whos supposed to be a leader. Having a cry because they had to do a tough training session, spare me.

and this is thing the public perception atm is that the captain knifed the coach along with the senior playing group to get one of there mates in Bayliss coaching them......and it will only intensify the pressure on Cummins if Bayliss gets picked and if that's the case it could be that the position of Cummins holding the captaincy might become untenable

As much as I do not agree with Langer getting the flick we do have to move forward.....and I hoping a Gillespie gets the nod or a punter...but they might not want to do it due to the selfishness of this current senior group

If bayliss gets the nod there will be a huge divide in Australian cricket and like it or not Cummins imagine will forever be tarnished if not already

FFS you need coaches at the top level.....Look at this recent ashes series....Green first couple of tests playing to open with his pad because he is afraid to get lbw loses where his off stump is.... Punter picks up on it goes back to the coaches green gets more side on ..the runs start to come

Last test our slip cordon basically on top of each other....did cummins pick that up when he was bowling??? no its the coaches role to see and rectify

Tactics analysing opposition strength and weakness that's what the coaches do as well...

Clear as day that the senior members of the playing group (the NSW boys) weren't fans of Langer.

Yeah, he was probably a hard arse but he was exactly what the Aussie team needed when he took over. Sometimes you need to be told what you don't like to hear.

So, what happens next? The aussie side just go back to the old ways, with the players running the show again?

Really disappointing time to be a supporter of Australian cricket.

A cricket team needs some form of coaching staff, which in turn should include a leader (Head Coach), you really think the players would structure and plan the periods outside of playing games, there complaining Cummins workload is high now, include the preparation and leadup into his job description and see how he goes.

If you left it up to the 11 players it'd be some piss poor preparation, they can't win anything away from home as it is.

It takes a bit for Steve Waugh to have a dig, generally stays neutral and rarely gets involved in the public slanging matches. The fact is Justin Langer has done nothing to lose his job but giving the players a gob full on occasions which they probably deserved it.

TBH you got to question why he decided to do a media tour when knowing well the Langer question would be the first question asked if he wasn't willing to endorse him? He done quite a few interviews on morning breakfast shows, sports shows etc. when he could easily have just layed low and let it play out, his just made himself look like a dickhead, when it was easily avoidable, just don't do interviews until the situation is sorted.

People saying you don't need a coach are kidding themselves. Anyone who thinks they are capable of getting the best out of themselves without any outside advice or guidance is likely not getting the best out of themselves. People can rarely assess their own weaknesses with impartiality.
