Not many of us predicted the rise of the Pies and Nathan 'SuperCoach' Buckley in 2018. That's for sure.
Most had the Eagles missing the 8.

It is that time of year again to preview and make predictions about the following questions:

  1. Which coach is under the pump?
  2. Which coach is on the chopping block?
  3. Which coaches are at risk?
  4. Which coach is under-performing relative to the list?
  5. Which coach is already out the door?

POLL RULE
You can select two options in the Poll.

EDIT
Brendon Bolton is the correct spelling not 'Brendan'. Apologies to his mother.

:pWe're leaving Leon alone for now.

As far as pressure goes it has to be Dew and Bolton objectively I think l. I dont think either is at any risk if losing their job except in the long term though.

They're both in their first coaching appointment and need to build their reputation. I dont think either club is expecting finals, but frankly they should both be able to build some belief in their list and improve. Bolton in his third year and Dew his second.

They'll be the two having the most restless nights in the off season I think.

The Blues had what must have been a frustrating year unable to build continuity from week to week while trying to lift themselves off the floor.

The Suns lost senior players, but hopefully are ready to move on now. Without knowing the Dynamics in the playing group it's impossible to know if it's a good thing long term. It might be.

Hinkley. Port were massively underwhelming last season (I had them top 4:drunk:) surely if they dont get a good start next year his name will be brought up.

Also, every Saints fan I know seems to blame Richardson for the current Saints woes, they will need to push hard for finals or he will go as well.

[*]Which coach is under the pump? Cameron & Pyke
[*]Which coach is on the chopping bloke? None, dont think any are definitely gone.
[*]Which coaches are at risk? Cameron, Pyke, Worsfold, Lyon, Richardson.
[*]Which coach is under-performing relative to the list? Cameron, If Bombers fail to make the 8 in 2019 then include Worsfold.

Good points. I think Dew will be ok Silv ... Erm .. Bolton will be under pressure.

B Scott if North go downhill with a tougher draw and a splurge on three pretty average. Beveridge should not be under pressure but may be if they descend further down the ladder may so.

Hinkley, Bolton, Richo, Woosha, Lyon.

I've backed Ross through the last 3 dreadful years. We have a more balanced side now and it will be mid-range as far as experience and age goes next year. No excuses not to be pushing for finals. 8 wins last season after 8 wins in 2016. Expecting to take a step up and get another 3-4 wins on top.

11-12 wins is my expectation. I'll be baying for blood if we fall short of that.

Oh yes Pyke.
Good point. I had forgotten about the school camp fiasco.
He has gone from hero to zero very quickly.
His stock price chart looks like Joel McDonald and GetSwift.
Peaked in 2017. Dropped dramatically in the 2018 summer.

Why is Fagan's name on there?
Good question.
44 games coached. 10 wins. 22.7%.
The media is now expecting the Lions to win more games. Expectations are up.
So I think he needs to start winning some more games. You cant use the 'young list' thing forever.
Not saying he needs to make the 8 and win 13 games. He should be aiming for 8-9 wins. Anything less and questions will be asked.

Where's Worsfold in this poll?

This time next year he will be coming off a successful finals campaign (that doesn't mean winning the flag either) or the Bombers will be in the market for a new coach. There will be no escaping the expectations, whether they are justified or not.

12 wins and a % of 105 in 2018. That is an ok year. Not great but not bad.

So expectation is at least one win in a final?
Obviously injuries come in to it.
14 wins would be a good year. Anything more than 14 and you are flag contenders.

Next year I reckon if next year isn't a finals one. (Unlikely though).
