You've got the Fubar, the $100 voucher for the Waterside, the voucher for Man what a fuss, the box of Krispy Kreme original glazed donuts, the sport drinks, the AFL trivia game and the Aquilla shoes. Surely I didn't miss anything...
 
Sheedy out of the running?

The Melbourne coaching sub-committee has chosen it's preferred successor to Neale Daniher. Essendon coach Kevin Sheedy, ex-Fremantle coach Chris Connolly and caretaker coach Mark Riley have missed out on the position according to club sources, as the Demons look to an untried young coach, with Hawthorn Assistant Damian Hardwick and Port Adelaide Assistant Dean Bailey the only two remaining candidates. The Melbourne board will make it's final decision at a meeting tonight and a public announcement expected early next week.

I wanted sheedy, but based on what I've heard about Bailey I wouldnt mind him. If this is true, I'm honestly VERY suprised that connolly is out.

Best news i have heard for a long time would love any of these two coaches fresh blood new direction love it. Dont know much about bailey but from what i have heard very good.

Happy it wont be Connolly or Riley. We need new blood and fresh ideas.

Was hoping for Sheedy but he is getting on a bit, so I hope it is Hardwick.

A shame they got rid of the Telefunken products.

Had my heart set on Sheedy, but at least we won't get Connelly (nothing against him personally). Riley was never in the running.

Hardwick or Bailey - I suppose it is a bit exciting that we will get a new coach in the system.

This was from The Australian today:

It is understood that caretaker coach Mark Riley and Hawthorn assistant coach Damien Hardwick were yesterday dropped from the Demons' short list. The full Melbourne board will tonight debate the qualities of the reduced field of senior candidates.

Heres the deal:

Bailey 66% chance
Connolly 33% chance
Sheedy 1% chance.

2 options will be on the agenda:


Bailey coach and ? footy manager
Connolly coach and PS footy manager

I'd say it's mostly guess work by the media at this stage.

I'd be happy with whoever out of Bailey, Hardwick and Sheedy impressed the selection panel the most.

Based on what I've seen of Essendon this year the game may have moved past Sheedy so it's not a bad idea to find someone new.

It would really say a lot about Bailey and Hardwick if they were to pass up Sheedy - who would bring in guaranteed money.

The game may have moved past Sheedy, but the MFC certainly hasn't.

I know short-term solutions are frowned upon, but Sheedy would be an excellent short-term fix for us, as discussed on numerous posts. Give him 3 years to develop youth and build us a platform to go forward - then replace him with a smart young thing who is up to speed with all that is new and groovy when it comes to coaching.

And didn't we go down that track when we appointed Daniher 10 years ago, only to end up pretty much in the same shape (possibly worse) as we were back in '96?

The Age said that Riley and Connolly were out of the running. That was great news for me as I'd love Sheedy, Hardwick or Bailey (in that order roughly).

The talks in Adelaide are that Bailey is extremely high on the list, the reference from Choco and the resurgence of Port Adelaide this season have helped his cause. I am willing to bet that Bailey will be pretty much a firm favourite for the appointment.
