Coaching and off-field staff thread

Fagan done a good job and remember he did not throw out all of Leppa's assistants out.
He seems more of a people manager and leaves some of the tactical stuff to the line coaches.
Not a bad move , this year Noble moved on and Stone came in.

Might be worth looking for some new blood into the assistant coaching group if we miss out this year.
Just to change things up a bit.

Would love to know how Stone has gone - we have heard nothing about his role or impact at all.

BRISBANE’S CONUNDRUM

The heightened level of uncertainty in club land is epitomised at Brisbane, which has just one coach locked in beyond this year: Chris Fagan (2023).

Dale Tapping (midfield), Jed Adcock (forwards), Murray Davis (backline), Ben Hudson (ruck and midfield), Mark Stone (strategy), Scott Borlace (head of development) and Mitch Hahn (VFL) are all either waiting on the club or have the club waiting on them.

Tapping has been spoken to by Collingwood. He remains an outsider for the senior coaching job but it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that he could be at the Magpies next year as an assistant.

Collingwood players and staff loved Tapping when he was at the club, coaching the VFL team to a flag in 2016 and earning coach of the year honours. He has been at the Lions ever since.

For Lions footy boss Danny Daly and CEO Greg Swann, there is plenty to consider ahead of the 2022 season. While the playing list is likely to be much the same, there could be significant coaching changes below Fagan.

Not sure if this has been posted, but a great example of the club's culture atm.

"Brisbane’s entire coaching staff accepted a 20 per cent pay cut to save the club axing coaches this year as the August 1 deadline approaches for clubs to inform assistant coaches of the futures.

The Herald Sun can reveal Chris Fagan volunteered to take an even bigger cut to help the club stay under the football department despite already taking a cut of up to $100,000.

The Lions decided that rather than slash their football staff numbers they would all take pay cuts which have allowed Brisbane to have an extra coach compared to every other team.

Some staffers on less pay in medical and conditioning took lesser cuts of only five per cent but the Lions senior staff were all happy to stay but on 20 per cent cuts.

The Lions are one of many clubs considering how they will spend what is expected to be a $250,000 rise in the $6.3 million football cap next year, with hopes of a bigger rise dashed by the most recent Covid cases and cost to the league."

Thats great, but didn't the coaches and staff already take pay cuts last year?

Cathie Reid, a Lions board member, has just sold her remaining 5% stake in Icon Group for $125m. The company was established by her and her husband Stuart Giles and they sold their majority stake in Icon about 5 years ago to QIC and Goldman Sachs for around $250m - all up about $375m. Leigh Matthews was instrumental in getting Cathie onto our Board and her business acumen is obviously first class. Well done to Cathie and her husband.

Anyone heard anything on our new Head Of Medical?
Still hasn’t informed his current club?

Darren Stanborough. Was head physio for Melbourne City in the A-League for five years according to LinkedIn, and had a 6 year stint at Fulham in the EPL as the club phsyio.

Reported in The Australian today:

"The Cats also confirmed during the AGM that it had appointed former Brisbane head physio Luke Licht for season 2022 following a disappointing year on the injury front last season.

Licht has been a key part of the Lions’ successful management of players and their fitness in recent seasons, and has been a significant player in the revamped career of former Cat Lincoln McCarthy.

Soft tissue issues plagued Geelong in 2021, with the three hamstring injuries to boom recruit Jeremy Cameron a lowlight for the year".

Andrew Hamilton finished up with us after Gold Coast game as media manager.
Not sure if we have appointed someone as his replacement.

He’s been our worst media manager if true hopefully Michael whiting joins the Lions

I swear we never get mentioned on any of the shows. Zac’s 6 didn’t rate a mention on 360, bounce or classified. We need a supporter podcast or something, because beyond BF and occasional mention from David King we get sweet f*** all.

Yes I’m aware of TRD. I like Dom and fish. It is club media though, not a fan podcast. I find it’s a nice promo piece. sometimes you just want that free for all content, a bit like bigfooty.

It’s the way it always has been. I used to get upset about it as well. Now I wear it like a badge of honour. Screw ‘Em!
