If we have a repeat year of 2015, we will all be calling for his head.Succession plans. Ugh.
So when we win the 2016-2019 three peat are we gonna sack kern?
Succession plans are bullshit and if things work out the way I believe they will Ken could coach us for a decade. This might be a little left field and off topic but what about trying to entice Dew to come home, to coach the Magpies on a 3 year deal and to be moved on to the AFL side as Ken's successor.
I would like to see him coach his own team before i would entrust him with an AFL side. Where better to start than the SANFL. Most on here like the Bassett idea and that is only because he has coached at a senior level and has shown he has what it takes. Is Dew a good coach? honest question

At which point we go find our Dew or Dew type.If we have a repeat year of 2015, we will all be calling for his head.
Yes he could and i hope he does, because to coach for a decade at the mighty Port Adelaide Footy Club, he must have put some beautiful icing on a Premiership cake. The word could is a loose term, we all thought Butcher could kick.Succession plans are bullshit and if things work out the way I believe they will Ken could coach us for a decade.
Imagine the conversation "Hey Kern' we know you are only at the end of the 3rd year but we've brought in "Johnny come lately" here to groom for ya job in a couple of years they all say he's got the makings of a wonderful coach & the grapevine is never wrong.. anyway no pressure onwards & upwards old boy"At which point we go find our Dew or Dew type.
I just don't like hiring someone and virtually guaranteeing them a promotion (or backing ourselves into a corner where we have to promote or break our word)
What if the players hate him. What if he he just doesn't fit. What if anther assistant at port or another standout elsewhere pops up in those 3 years?
Just have your coach and when you need a new one then hunt him down.
Who knows, maybe Ken has plans to return to Victoria after his contract ends, then we have a ready made coach which has been working close with Ken. just putting out there. At which point we go find our Dew or Dew type.

Don't get me Wrong i love our Kern but there were many posts on here questioning his selections, gold passes and even his soft pressers after 1 poor year. Seriously though, i would hate to see Dew or even Lade get lost to the franchise down the road.Imagine the conversation "Hey Kern' we know you are only at the end of the 3rd year but we've brought in "Johnny come lately" here to groom for ya job in a couple of years they all say he's got the makings of a wonderful coach & the grapevine is never wrong.. anyway no pressure onwards & upwards old boy"
This has gotta be up there with the most pointless, stupid hypotheticals. Just concede the argument m8.Who knows, maybe Ken has plans to return to Victoria after his contract ends, then we have a ready made coach which has been working close with Ken. just putting out there.
Like i said a little left field. This has gotta be up there with the most pointless, stupid hypotheticals. Just concede the argument m8.
Like i said a little left field.![]()
The missing link huh might have been a good coach had he learn't to make his point somewhere underneath the 45 minute bracket.Shaun Rehn?
I'm thinking IF Nicks wants to be an AFL senior coach he needs a midfield role in some capacity.
Carr out, Bassett in.
Bassett -> backline line coach
Nicks -> midfield line coach (with Voss)
Would ideally like a tactician coach alongside Ken but it seems unlikely.
Fine I'll take a role in the box but it needs to be 400k per year and 5 year deal.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO , Let him run for parliament , he can sprout off there.Pretty interesting but not out of left field. What role would Hocking move into? I presume Bassett for our forwards or would he become defensive coach and move Nicks elsewhere?
Side note, what about Goodes as a forwards coach? Comes from a successful system, talented himself, a mentor for our indigenous lads and seems to be a fairly switched on chap.
Apart from any possible changes to the roles of Voss and Carr I will be very interested to see if the club does anything with the invisible man Shaun Hart.
And at the risk of upsetting the multitudes, no I'm not a fan of either of the ex brions.![]()
Why? they are both as unproven as head coaches as plucka duckSeriously though, i would hate to see Dew or even Lade get lost to the franchise down the road.
