Just totally bemused how Burton can become our general manager of fitness etc is this how Fagan achieves the elite coaching team by picking a ex player not all that long out of game with a record of massive injury proportions at Brisbane.
Then golly we are giving Clarke another 2 seasons because Jacobs happens to be good but what of who gets the ball and who breaks clear from scrimmage or centre.

Clarke's extension is on the back of Walsh's recommendation

Just prior to Phil's death he and Fages had a detail review of the Coaching team and Walsh wanted to keep both Clarke and Campo

On Burton I don't think we should jump to judgements, results will best judge his performance

I think the club need to explain the appointment of Burton.
Head of fitness is one of the most crucial roles at the club.
Roo, Noble and Fagan are more aware of this than us and they are no fools.
It makes no sense to me as we are trying to have the best programme in Australia.
Is Burton the best fitness guru in Australia?

Yes it does seem odd on the surface

As you say these blokes know more than us but I feel it's not enough to just say "I'm insulted if you think it's jobs for the boys" or "obviously any appointment is top standard because that's what we said we were doing"

They should clearly outline why he was the best person for the job and address the most likely of members concerns

There is no way it could be a job for the boys even though it seems that way from the outside..
It is too crucial a role.. I just want an explanation

A lot of people here were quick to lay it on Poulos when we appeared "unfit". These are always trick appointments to asses. Need to give it time.

agree, 12 months ago many on here were calling for Poulos's head

Im prepared to pause judgement on Burton and lets wait and see what he can deliver

Unless General Manager of High Performance refers to this

Burton MOTY 200_200X320.jpg

I'm going to want to know more.

It's one thing to say we'll have to wait and see, but when they told us we would get a league best program, I thought it meant going after current league or industry best with a record that speaks for itself and putting it all together that way.

I think their league best program means leagues best structure, and hopefully the people they bring in under Burton are impressive.

one being the key word there, hasn't been able to improve a single one outside of Jacobs since he's been here.

By all reports Reilly O'Brien is developing nicely in the SANFL, even dominating in the majority of his games. When was the last time we drafted a top Ruck prospect of Natanui type repute? It's all relative to what your given to work with, like that old saying goes "hard to make a silk purse out of a pig's ear". Anyone that saw Matty Clarke play would know that he wasn't just a good tap ruckman, he was elite, I recall Robert Walls saying he was amongst the best tap ruckmen he had ever seen play the game.

Fagan mentioned in an interview a few days ago that if anyone suggested to him that he and the AFC operated on a 'Jobs for the Boys' basis that he would be highly insulted.
Maybe Burton is better than some people on here think, as is Clarke.
Fagan has said that he wants an elite team at AFC. Both of the aforementioned people must be highly regarded by both Fagan and others. It is not just a case of being mates with Roo.
Burton took immense and mostly unwarranted flak on here as a player. No doubt this will continue on his return in this role.
I'd say Clarke's med term future was endorsed by Walsh

Burton - NFI

I thought earlier in the year Walsh mentioned something about trying to get Brendan Lade but had to wait for his contract to run out ?
I was hoping we would get him and he would replace Clarke, but it doesn't look like it now.
It will be interesting to see who replaces Milburn also ?

I don't think Walsh dropped a name

I think he said that he would have liked to bring in someone without mentioning names however they were under contract

i reckon he mentioned that when he was on the couch

dropped the name?

i would be surprised given the club stance on not talking about contract situations and other club staff in the public domain

I remembered Walsh being asked who were the best football leaders that he coached and he mentioned Boak, Glass and Lade

if you people could read you could clearly see on the crows website that is says Brett Burton will return to the Club in the newly-created role of General Manager of High Performance while Physical Performance Manager Nick Poulos will depart the Club to take up a role with Australian Sevens Rugby in the lead up to the 2016 Olympic Games.

So if some of you guys could read properly you would see that we still need a new Physical Performance Manager.

Therefore Poulos was not shafted or pushed out so settle down.

Wouldn't be shocked to see him return to the club after the olympics.

As for Burton returning, it's a wait and see for mine. People blasted Poulos early on and now we're singing his praises as he leaves. Birdman has always been highly regarded in that sense, it'll be interesting to see how many people he has in his department.

As for Milburn leaving, he did a good job with what he had. Hopefully Glass can step in or someone of that ilk.

yeah that is all we can do wait and see what happens. And yeah It would be great to get Glass in as new defence coach, I'd be very happy with that.
