Roast Coaching discussion thread

If it wasnt Paul Roos, my guess is the coach would be sacked. Simply unacceptable the last month. Disgraceful first halves in all 4 games and a disgraceful game plan. No idea where the club is going on field.

Nah, second year and we've improved. Any coach would survive. Next year would be their pressure year.

I just watched his press conference. Phrases used like "i thought the boys came to play today and put in a terrific effort"..." I told them we need to come to play next week like we did today." We just lost a game of football by nine goals to a side that never got out of second gear. How the **** is that coming to play? I am so sick of this club accepting this shit. People keep talking about the standards and expectations being dramatically improved. **** me.

Well, didn't we?

Had something like 10 to 3 inside 50's in the first 10 minutes - but they had 3 goals and we had 1 point.

We probably lost that count by 7 or 8 in the end.

We laid 88 tackles.

Freo are a much stronger and fitter team then us, especially with the amount of senior blokes we had missing it was a solid effort.

Our biggest problem was, again, skill and decision making errors.

I'm not saying we didn't try, I also didn't think we even played that poorly, but the fact remains we lost the game by nine goals, could have been alot more if Freo didn't put the cue in the rack, and Roos almost sounded happy about it. The players hear that and start all patting themselves on the back. Just about no other side in the comp would put up with a flogging like that, and I want Roos to start showing that losses like that aren't acceptable anymore.

"We brought Roosy in with the primary aim to fix the culture and the leadership and create structures around our football club," said Jackson.

"We wanted him to put in place those structures for a young coach to be there for the next five years at least.

"That's what Simon Goodwin will inherit. Roosy's taught them contested football and defensive skills and I'm not sure we've got enough talent yet to take the next step with our playing style, but I'm sure that will start next year."

Glad Mike was on 360 last night, gave Roosy a grilling that Slobbo would never do.
Can we have Mike all the time? He's so much better it's frightening. Also, I'm sick of Roos barely saying anything because Robbo spends most weeks refusing to speak to him.

You can tell he really doesn't want to criticise the players too much publicly, which I'm a bit torn on. I can understand why, but FFS our senior players have been a flat out joke for 2/3 of this year.
Roosy has stated publicly that he's let everyone on our list know where they stand, and that a fair few of them have been playing for their careers. Not much point potting them publicly when he's already had those conversations behind closed doors, may just ruin their potential value if we want to offload them come trade period.

Sunday rub on mmm reporting Goodwin will take control of the gameplan next season and it will bs heavily attacking focused
Thank **** for that.

So we moved away from a bailey gameplan, to a Neeld around the boundary gameplan. To a heavily defensive Roos gameplan to all really comeback to a heavy attacking gameplan again?

Bailey game plan featured zero defence. Goodwin's game plan will be built on a Roos tackling/pressure foundation with Roosy coaching from the bench.

Under Bailey we counter attacked from deep in defense (outside of Jamar tapping to Moloney who hoofed it forward).Neeld went slow around the boundary for a few weeks then I couldn't tell what our gameplan was from then on.

Hopefully now we have some ability to win the footy and not try to intercept in defense. I don't mind that we have been getting some fundamentals in place first but we need better ball movement now.

Clark, Dawes, Hogan :rainbow:
I'd prefer this duo on the list with Hogan:

Roos and his team have got the list trending towards competitive, contested ball winners with their player selection, game plan and ethos/culture. Weed out the turnover merchants and find out those who can't win their own ball. Then attack.
