Blues appoint Development Manager
Harris joined the Eagles as forward coach in 2006 after coaching West Perth from 2002-2005 and guiding it to the 2003 WAFL flag. Harris was a premiership player with West Perth in 1995, coached the Wodonga Raiders from 1997-1999 and was an assistant coach with the NSW/ACT Rams in 2000 & 2001.

Harris won the Simpson Medal in 1995.

What's Darren's background? Has he played/coached at other levels?

Coached Wodonga Raiders to a flag in Ovens and Murray league in the late 1990's, then NSW/ACT Rams, followed with a flag at West Perth in early nineties and a stint as an assistant with the Eagles.

Not sure about the dual role set-up though...is there any guts to the development academy role or is a nice me-too PR thingy? I suppose for all intents and purposes Harris and Teague would have been working with the same group of players.

I don't see how he can juggle both roles
successfully . I'm not convinced unless they appoint someone else in a development role to help darrin Harris and cfc during match days .
Hope this is not cost cutting to our football departments .

The Carlton Football Club also confirmed today that Luke Webster has been appointed as a Development Coach.

Webster played 33 games for Fremantle between 2003 and 2007 before his playing career was cut short following a fourth knee reconstruction.

“We are also delighted that Luke joins us at Carlton. He is an impressive young man and will work closely with both Darren Harris and our senior coaching staff at Carlton.” Steven Icke said.

Very interesting article about the coach's roles.

Coach Harris readies for the challenge

His energies were focused on the development of those players’ attitudes, particularly in the vital areas of leadership. That development was complemented in the second year with the introduction of the skill acquisition program.

“My role with the Bullants was initially to oversee the on-going development of young players, and act as a mentor to help build and grow David Teague and Matty Capuano as development coaches,” Harris said.

Blues after old heads

CARLTON coach Brett Ratten says pursuit of experience was the key factor in the club's coaching overhaul.

Alan Richardson, Gavin Brown and John Barker have all joined the Blues in the off-season.

"This year we wanted to get a bit more experience around and probably just the change in some of the thinking because we've had much the same crew for three years.

"We're just really rapt to have Al (Richardson) with his experience and then Gav (Brown) to come from Collingwood, a premiership team, and Johnny Barker has been involved with St Kilda and Hawthorn.
It was critical to get a bit more experience around the group."
