Luke to draw on life’s experiences
“I wanted to stay in a club environment and find a right fit. So I started to make a few phonecalls to people I knew in Melbourne, and amongst them was Steven Icke who I knew at Fremantle. I had a phone conversation with him and he said to me, ‘Mate, you’ve probably timed it right - we’re looking at putting on a development coach which might be of interest to you’.

“A couple of days later I was asked to come in, and I met Brett Ratten, Mark Riley and Darren Harris. An hour or so later I got a phonecall from ‘Ratts’ saying the job was mine if I wanted it . . . so it all happened pretty quick and I’m rapt to now be part of where this club is going with its young guys.”

“I’ll be mainly working with the first to third-year players in developing their game, and helping them with their strengths and deficiencies,” Webster said.

“It will involve educating the players, helping them learn about the opposition and will also involve supporting Darren Harris at the Northern Bullants, which could also potentially lead to a role as a line coach.”

Webster looks young enough to get a game alongside Houlihan.

Well Bear would certainly teach the boys about doing what it takes to survive. Not sure if they all need to eat spiders, cockroaches, sheep intestine or drink from elephant dung though. Might be a little too far

Kade Simpson says it's time for Blues to stand up

KADE Simpson says the Carlton coaching panel has never been better equipped to lead the club deep into September.

"The way he has handed off responsibility to Brownie, JB and Richo has been super. He has welcomed those guys into the club and they have all been great since arriving," Simpson said.

"I have been doing some work with Richo, watching my tapes to see my running patterns and just trying to enhance my game."

He said of Ratten: "He is someone whose door is always open and we do often call in to talk about a range of things ... He just wants us to keep improving and play some finals football. He wants success and we want success. I just wish the season could start."

Simpson's endorsement of Ratten comes at a time when the Carlton coach has been put on notice by his superiors with an edict that anything other than at least winning one final will be deemed unacceptable.
