Good luck to him! I hope it goes well. I'm actually glad he got the job. We will have a massive shake up in the coaches ranks with alot of fresh ideas next year. I'd love us the chase someone who has been a senior coach before, preferably from the Hawks camp. Who is available? Ratten?

Dews gone to suns then, interesting.

Longmire has a reasonably new team in next season then

I don't think we will have a senior assistant. I think we just created that role so as to keep Dew longer.
Not all clubs have the.

I think Shaw will be the next Dew. He has made an immediate impact on the young group in his two years & many of these guys will be coming through the seniors now after having played under him.
Shaw becomes our best prospect of becoming a quality coach.

Yeah it will work out, enough ex players to bring in

Ever notice (this is not having a go) this board tends to look who the next so and so is, ohh its the new jude bolton, or the new adam goodes

And this year is like such and such
Ohh this is like that 96 season

...ill shut up now

They will get some with experience in

Besides blaky it's a very inexperienced coaching panel and besides SJ not much new ideas

Kirky after his role at Freo followed by the Swans I would hardly call him inexperienced.

Shaw as well has been groomed for a couple of years.

Though I'd be more comfortable with an experienced coach coming in.

I'm disappointed to see Dew leave, but good luck to him. I hope he is not killed by the poisoned challice.

Only have to look at Richmond with there coaching box this year

We need more experience

Just need good coaches with changes and fresh ideas

Is that experience maybe and maybe ideally you do pinch some ex hawk assistant or something who has been there done it. Maybe just an outsider is sufficient if they are right person

Someone like a sam mitchell if he wasnt going to the eagles, at least been part of success

Would love Ratten or Maccarthy.

Well done Dew. Just what the GC need. He will concentrate on defence and the contest. Do them the world of good.

That article says many believe Dew was a key component to bringing us a flag in 2012 in such a short time that he became an assistant. The fact Shaw was suddenly made our NEAFL coach suggests he had a good footballing IQ.
It happens & it's how coaches are born.

GC could break there duck against us next year if we don't come up with some new ideas. Dew takes alot of inside info with him.
So did ROK, everyone knows what the others are doing, it's how you go about it.

So we have,
Out: Dew, Playfair, Francou.
In: Kennelly, Johnson, Laidler.

I don't think anyone else is joining our coaching panel other than McVeigh if the season doesn't pan out for him.

Just play keepings off and you are 2/3 of the way there unless Horse manages to lower his "my way is the greatest of all time philosophy".

I'm actually not that disappointed that we have moved on most of our coaches. We have needed new blood. The worst thing a club can do is stand still. You don't want the same assistants every year. They get stale.

Does new blood count if you've brought in multiple players who played under the Swans system? Feels like Horse is going to be surrounded by people who won't know any different

As its all getting put on other threads.
We need another high ranked assistant.
Thoughts.
Matthew Nicks is getting great raps, then there is Adam Kingsley who also has big wraps and was in with a chance at GC. Or do we upgrade Shaw who has massive wraps and bring in another new one.

Johnson is something different, and hopefully our replacement assistant is outside the Swans setup. It's a start at least. At least we have a forward coaching the forward line for once!

We need new blood especially from successful clubs with modern game plans (someone from Hawthorn would be nice). Don't promote from within unless they're a gun and up to speed with the modern game.
