All valid what u say. U r a Dew man and I'm Voss. That's fair enough.
I just want to see us be "hard at the ball" and am looking for the coach that can bring it into the culture.
At the moment we are far off having the grit that would make me proud and I think get the rest of the GC enthused enough to get behind the team and come to the games.
What's voss done though? His track record isn't great

wasn't vossy meant to be our inaugural coach, but then he got offered the lions job?
either way, don't think i'd want him as our coach.

Correct.

He demanded a five year contract and the GC17 team were only willing to give him three guaranteed years so he pulled out and took up an assistant role at West Coast instead. A few months later he was the senior coach of the Brisbane Lions.

Correct.

Thanks for the education
I wasn't aware of this

It would be fair to say Vossy didn't handle himself well back then but we're talking about a competely different person nearly 10 years later. He now has five years experience as head coach of an AFL club and has spent the last three years at Port Adelaide as midfield manager. I'm not necessarily saying he's the right man for the job, I'm just saying he is a very different candidate to the one the club went after back in 2008.

Side note - his son (Casey) will be draft eligible soon so I'd think they would want him to enroll in the Lions academy in the near future.

Correct.

I was at that press conference, my impression was he was a smug barstard and I hoped he didn't get the job.. turns out he didn't because in his words "the devil was in the detail" which obviously meant 3 years is not enough money when you sack me after two because I'm terrible Coach who will lose the group quickly.
But then we went and got Bluey who sucked up to all the cool kids and also couldn't Coach...
Eade should have been there from the start with a Dew or Bolton type taking over after the first 4 years ir so..

that's a pretty interesting theory. I wonder how it would've worked out with eade first then bluey?

To expand further, you can't give an expansion team to an unproven Head Coach in a non-football state with sub standard resources and minimal help.. and his boss was John Witheriff who wouldn't have known Gary Ablett from Gary Lineker at the time...
It's not Rocket Science... Bluey had no chance of making it work... if he had been the AC being groomed to take over when the correct culture had been built, much like Leon Cameron, maybe he would still be here today... much like, you know, Leon Cameron..

Double like - especially Witheriff in charge - that was atrocious by the AFL to allow that

Please don't sack Rocket before season ends. It's such a bad look.Nothing's going to change culturally with an 8 week caretaker.Let it run its course and if we are seriously looking at a new coach start doing it now- maybe with Rockets blessing and help. That would be so much more attractive to someone looking to come here.
This^^^ 100%

I always felt Dennis Pagan mentoring Bluey was the combo
He'd had grand final wins and made his name in the U18 comp before taking over at North in the mid 90's
This isn't new thinking BTW
@IvaBigun and I saw this coming in 2011 and the inherent dangers of a Club full of rookies and a rookie coach

Then we would be sitting here saying The game had gone past Eade and we should of bought in a younger coach at the outset.
Some are back on the merry go round again now

From memory they were having a lot of trouble trying to sign up players who wanted to know who the coach was going to be. They had no one lined up so Bluey was given an extension.
I meant with Rocket. When he was first signed, there were rumours everywhere that Rocket would be picking his own assistants and forming his own team. That never happened and he's stuck with what he was given. Rocket has had no support whatsoever since he's arrived up here and it gives me the shits. Hope Ashcroft and Clayton **** right off at the end of the year, regardless of Rocket's outcome.

My biggest gripe with our list development is still that we took just 8 uncontracted senior players to protect the young bodies when we had the opportunity to take 16
To be fair, GWS only took five (Davis, Palmer, Reid, Scully and Ward) and they seem to be doing just fine.

Further indictment on our recruiting, player development and football management then
Hey Matchu
What's the group think on Dixon
Is he worth the contract?

Power, McDonald, Cornes?
Brogan as well. Those four had been convinced to come out of retirement to play for the Giants on the promise that coaching roles would follow. They didn't really fall under the category of uncontracted players but I take your point.

I probably have a different view on Charlie because I followed his career closely with the Suns before he came across. So I'm probably not the right person to ask.
