Evans also said the same thing last year before we re signed Dew.

Means absolutely nothing right now.

except, Dew's biggest supporter, coch is no longer around. Surely this board and new president get to the point where results need to happen otherwise patience is wearing thin.

In a business where WL is important, Dew probably has been given a lot of time. More than most.

A reality check on the supposed “serious quality players”.

All Australian team 2022 had one Collingwood Player Brayden Maynard in the back pocket.

Coaches Association 2022 award no Collingwood Player in top ten.

Players Association 2022 none in top five.

The AFL ladder for 2021 had Collingwood second last. Just ahead of North.
Serious Quality players
J Daicos
N Daicos
B Hill
J Ginnivan

Any team would welcome them with open arms

100% Jen. My earlier post said serious quality players from 19 - 25.
I just listed those off the top of my head.
Realistically it's about 15+ who I wouldn't mind playing at the Suns
Oh right, my bad.

The pies may not have the most talented list, but what they do play on is belief. Heart and ability to never give up. I remember fly's message when he came in last pre-season last year was to develop winning habits and behaviours. Act like a winner even when you lose.

This is something Bucks could never get from this playing group. Sometimes you need to right coach to get the best out of every player on the list.

They have a very talented list despite some of their stars drifting to the "aged" list.
Still playing good footy.
The difference between them and the Suns is the ability to get and retain players long term.
Being a big Vic club helps the Pies there
That will change and hopefully soon and we can become a destination club.
Dew has at least stopped the flow of players leaving and getting the young fellas to sign on.
Hope he gets to see the results...

I can't believe there are people on here that seriously wanna retain dew over the potential of Damian Hardwick coming in. Dew has stopped players leaving yes, but other than that, his win/loss record is appalling and it's always 'next year'. I actually don't think he is a very good coach either, generally ordinary coaches the players love, but then they get in a good coach and start winning and the old coach is forgotten about very quickly.

Got my backing for the flag Jen, this squad just know how to win.

I'm not ready to give up on Dew (yet) but this upcoming month of games is really important. If we don't get multiple wins then you can just about say our season is done and I'd guess most people will believe that's an unacceptable result and will probably lead to the head coach being moved on. Then you add in the fact that multiple high level coaches now appear to be available and that probably dramatically increases the chances of it happening. It's worth mentioning that Hardwick and Dew were premiership teammates at Port in 2004 and it's probably pretty unlikely Dimma would be keen on unseating his mate.

Just throwing this out there - Damien Hardwick is a premiership player for Port Adelaide and he's now seemingly available for them if they want to pursue it. Do Port make a move for Dimma and that then results in us getting Ken Hinkley as a head coach? Seems pretty harsh considering the way Port are playing at the moment but it's not often you get a chance to instill a head coach who happens to be a premiership player for your club and is a proven premiership coach at another club. Oh, and to round it out, Hardwick also won a flag at Essendon.

Whilst Dew has had more than his fair chance and hasn’t performed. I will say he’s been kneecapped by uncontrollable things along the way.

Witt’s acl 2021
King acl 2022
Miller missing most of the year 2023

Injuries are part of the game but pretty much our most important players.

That’s tough.

You’d be hearing non stop if Cripps was put long term or Bontempelli, Miller on their level of absence.

I don't really count his first year at the club, he had to break it all down that year and get us to ground zero, having to build it all up. 2023 would have been circled in the diary as the year for big improvement and as of yet, we aren't really seeing it. If he was to go on a tear and beat both Dogs and Crows, heading into the bye 6-6, he has at least earned the chance to see out the year.

If we get to the bye 4-8, his ticket has been stamped and I could see the club moving him on.

I would love Dew to be at the club next year, it would mean we have had a good year if that happens, because unless he is getting 12+ wins then no real discernable improvement has been made.

Fingers crossed. I'm just taking it one week at a time. Havent played norf, hawks or eagles yet (starting this week) crazy. But there does feel like something different this year.

I’m a big fan of macrae, he was my primary school PE teacher whilst still playing for the Lions. We were Members at Lions from ~94-2006 so saw the slow rise of the bears then the lions, pretty much matching his career

He has tiny feet so I played all my footy from u14 until in a pair of his boots that he gifted to me.

In saying that. I still hope Collingwood lose. Definitely tall poppy syndrome. But the thought of the fairytale run with the daicos twins (who single-handedly scuppered our finals hopes last year), mason cox and 80k pies fans no doubt influencing the umpires just doesn’t sit well with me.

Brisbane all the way.
Or Demons
Or Port
Or Bulldogs

How have we improved on last year?
Can beat the bottom 3-4 teams
50/50 beat the middle 8 teams
Get flogged by the top 6 teams

Nearly beat the dees at home last year too
Got flogged by brisbane in the 4th quarter at the Gabba last year too

Same same rinse and repeat

Not saying Dewey’s a bad bloke or even an ok coach, but saints finished above us last year and their board didn’t settle for “maybe next year” they changed coaches and now they’re a serious finals contender.

Time to set some standards

What you thinking 30k members 1 premiership in 3 years

30-1-1

people in the game always claim a good coach makes about 10 percent difference to performance.. hardwick was honestly a bees d from being axed till he sat down and switched the method in which they played, if damian had this list i have no problem in saying he wouldn't being doing any better. dew keeps the game in close as we lack spread and speed from the contest which richmond was the best at for 5 years!!

sum up dew is doing the best with b class cattle imo and damian has left richmond in a massive hole list wise.

Agree with this. 2023 the year where wins/losses count the most. If we don't win enough then would expect him to go. It is time, even with Touk out.

I have said this a few times but the two most important jobs for the club since Dew arrived was to stop the bleeding, then build a decent foundation. I think that has been done, now the job is about making the foundation mean something on-field. If Dew is not able to do that, then find someone else. But the first part had to come first.

In my opinion our best young player atm is Nosey Anderson and IIRC he just signed a 4 year contract extension that has not started yet (my memory might be a bit short). We will have Miller and Ando running around in the mids for at least the next 4 years, plus Rowell the next 2. Not a bad start, hey, whoever is coaching. Dew gets some of the credit for that, for sure.

It's a mystery to me why otherwise apparently sensible people become completely unhinged when it comes to assessing their footy team
We have at last got some A graders coming through true enough but Tsitas is playing for us and he wouldn't even be on a list anywhere else
We have a B grade list
Last week it was like watching Polish Cavalry lining up against modern tanks in WW2
They also fought bravely but the outcome was never in doubt
An "honorable loss"
I'm always torn on Dewy.
I'd love to see him succeed but he's had a lot of time

RD11 | Dew It's another opportunity for us
Dew backing himself up here staunchly got me pumped up, the juicing were flowing I could feel it in my plumbs
I know he can be a bang average tactician but he has turned this club and list around
It would be nice to stick with him and for it to turn out to be a dimma like decision, but if we bottom out like we do and win only against the bottom teams he will be under serious pressure
Also he looks like one of those rats from flushed away and that’s a thumbs up in my books

Seeing as it appears the media have completely forgotten about it, how do Collingwood fans frame the Brisbane loss this year?

Like any loss. Playing in Brisbane is always tough for any oppositon. Probably played quite poorly, the whole Crisp stuff at the time; I watched it at the pub and everyone could sense there was something off with the team in general. But these losses happen, can't win em all. Sometimes you get outplayed and the opposition is better on the day as it happens. But think we have learnt a lot since. Having no rucks, and having to take McStay out of the forward line and put him into the ruck didn't help our structure. Was also more ill-disciplined that i've ever seen this side.

Dew's positioning of the boys have committed to me and to each other is true and is the problem. Dew's whole coaching history has been about keeping a list of first round picks around long enough to make finals and then no more retention issues, unfortunately looking at his record, the question asks itself, why, after 6 years, do I trust you will be able to become a premiership coach, and you can't. But his positioning of this club will crumble if you sack me for someone else has me feeling kinda right about him
