I was lucky enough to see some of his best games, but 30 odd games in 5 years (1974-1978)says it all. He was a super classy centreman, on baller with exquisite kicking skills, but knee injuries cut his career short. They could possibly have reconstructed that type of problem today. Number 36. Sorry, no vision highlights.

Some players are easier to let go of than others. Cocky I think is one the club will really want to hold onto, and do everything they can for him.

Probably he'll either come good, leave of his own volition or not be gone until several on here think he's overstayed his welcome. From my perspective his potential does justify being kept on the list for a few years still. But I was a big fan of moving on the less promising types like Gregson or Thurlow who even if they made it, would still just be similar to other guys we have.

Yep. It's hard to find a player like cockatoo but gregson and thurlow type players can be found easily. I have no hesitation giving him another contract

That is where I'd play him too, except put him in centre bounces when needed.

Perhaps bit Im thinking that he is in for another role.. and Atkins can hit flesh and still come back for more. NC is hard like glass ..and Atkins is hard like jarrah. A fit NC would be that 1 more goal kicker that could put us ...over the top

I didn’t get as star struck about Cockatoo as others, which I understand won’t be popular. I agree he had some X factor, but to me seemed to be a little too ‘look at me look at me’ and tried to do too much, regularly being caught HTB or not using a team mate in better position.

I don’t think his body will ever really hold up, some players are much more prone to injury than others, and he seems very severely prone. Not really keen on the club keeping him after his contract runs out. If they do, I think it would be stupid to give more than 1 year at a time on minimum salary until he can string more than a couple of games together before his next injury. I would also really like to see him become a little less selfish in his style of play.
