they do....case in point N. Buckley
you do 1 and you weaken them where you are succeptable to tearing them again....the cycle continues
bucks was 34 though - cogs is 26. i agree he is a massive chance not to be able to come back - but don't under-estimate the ability for a 26 y.o body to still be able to heal - all we can hope is that this treatment worked and he can train and get a few games at coburg (or reserves ) without the hammy going again.
This is where the afl needs to put a mature age - minimum mature age wage on the list - so players like cogs (who have suffered from the physical strain in their career ) and others that have been delisted but still have footy in his ( a jason cloke for example ) can still hope to reignite their AFL footy careers. The way it would work is they would have to be only eligible if they have player 75 games or more - and have to be paid a set fee of $75k a season. The spot would be outside the team list (like the rookie list) and would require a promotion - the same as a rookie listed player.
the league needs to do more to help keep the likes of Cogs in the game - players that have invested their lives and bodies into bein AFL players - and have broken down due to the demands. the clubs should have a "minimum risk" insentive to allow them to do the right thing by them
