they do....case in point N. Buckley
you do 1 and you weaken them where you are succeptable to tearing them again....the cycle continues

bucks was 34 though - cogs is 26. i agree he is a massive chance not to be able to come back - but don't under-estimate the ability for a 26 y.o body to still be able to heal - all we can hope is that this treatment worked and he can train and get a few games at coburg (or reserves ) without the hammy going again.

This is where the afl needs to put a mature age - minimum mature age wage on the list - so players like cogs (who have suffered from the physical strain in their career ) and others that have been delisted but still have footy in his ( a jason cloke for example ) can still hope to reignite their AFL footy careers. The way it would work is they would have to be only eligible if they have player 75 games or more - and have to be paid a set fee of $75k a season. The spot would be outside the team list (like the rookie list) and would require a promotion - the same as a rookie listed player.

the league needs to do more to help keep the likes of Cogs in the game - players that have invested their lives and bodies into bein AFL players - and have broken down due to the demands. the clubs should have a "minimum risk" insentive to allow them to do the right thing by them:thumbsu:

Good post.
Great concept where the club rewards loyalty and the livelihood of the players is protected giving them finanacial security. Cogs isnt the first player to go through this and wont be the last.

I cannot see that quote. Just says he has finished the treatment in Germany and is on his way back. I would expect to see him playing for coburg in the next 4 - 6 weeks.

Interesting - the article has now been edited - the reference taken out. (It was there - I checked it a couple of times before the OP).

You'd think that if they go to the trouble of editing it, they would also acknowledge the correction - they must have had someone bring it to their attention.

Ah well, we live in hope. We were all saying Browny was gone this time last year.

Cogs will be back. He's younger than Brown was when he snapped his tibia and fibula in half and rehabilitation for hammies is nowhere near as complex as that for broken legs.

He's also a lot younger than Luke Darcy was when he did back-to-back knees and Darcy came back (briefly). If Darcy had been younger, he would have played on.

He'll be back next pre-season. I doubt he'll be back this season considering the official site said "out for the season". Even if it was only up for a short while, somebody told that to the media people and where there's smoke...
