3 games in a row we looked better using our kicks and going short, lowering our eyes.

3 games in a row after quarter time our gameplan has gone the opposite way and we have gone a heavy handball run and gun, turning it over and the opposition have destroyed us.

Against the Swans and Saints, we did the damage by kicking short, hitting up leads and being methodical and safe with our ball movement. It started this was against the Eagles too.

Yet in each of these games, we have abandoned this for either kicking long down the line or trying to play fast, attacking footy and turning it over.

Once or twice I could chalk down to coincidence, but this revert in gameplan happening so often must draw into question the gameplan.

I’ve wondered the same thing (or at least something similar). There’s been several games we got off to a really good start and then it’s all dried up. it could be that we get off to a fast start and then teams work out how to counter it, but as you say, it seems like we change as well, not just the oppo. Perhaps they shut down our engine room and we end up panicking, or perhaps there is a plan that involves deliberately choosing different modes of play at particular junctures and we’re just not very good at some of them (yet).

Yea I think it’s evident ooze wants us to kick more to break thru the lines , oppo are quick some quicker than others to clamp us and that’s why oft it results in last resort style footy , down the line

Really good point noticed this also, we are so effective moving the ball with short smart kicks moving it up the wing. But then we just randomly start bombing the ball down the line and get ripped on the fast break makes 0 sense

I remember Hardwick mentioning that when we were developing the game plan we put into place during the 2017 season that saw us surge to the premiership, that he used to use it for a period of games late in 2016 just to see how it stood up, but would then pack it away and just play a simple brand of footy. His reasoning was that it took a while to really get a game plan bedded down to the point where it become second nature to the players and that they could then focus on the finer points to really get it running at it's best.

So I wonder if the same is happening here, Yze is taking a look at his game plan in real game situations so that he can use the footage in meetings during the week to highlight to the players that the way he wants to play is coming along, but we still need to keep training it before we're ready to use it in games full time.

Just a theory, but could it be that it's happening by instruction? As in he wants it to go under the radar a bit until our guys get it down pat, otherwise by the time our guys have it nailed, opposition sides will already be onto it? Another theory could be that he's saving it (using it longer) till we have some players back.
